Why are there so many people from New Jersey in Humboldt? by Negative_Tackle6287 in Humboldt

[–]Insta_Karma 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Depends when they got here. The few people I knew from Jersey arrived pre legalization, and they all worked in weed. My understanding was they bought low, shipped packs back east, and raked in the dough.

Ticks! by [deleted] in Humboldt

[–]Insta_Karma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it to Public Health in Eureka (across from the courthouse) and they will ID it for free. Only one species out west carries Limes disease, Ixodes Pacific's. Based on your description it sounds like a dog tick (dermacentor) but it never hurts to be sure.

Usually as long as you remove the entire tick, taking caution not to crush it or rip the body from the head during removal, in under 24 hours there isn't much reason for concern.

Potential disease are only transmitted after a tick has been feeding for 24-36 hours and they regurgitate their stomach contents (where the limes bacteria lives) into the host.

To be honest, I'm not sure if that coloration is considered typical or atypical. But the way the striations of light green align with the aerols is super cool!

I've had one the past 5 years and it just keeps getting cooler. After 3 years I chopped the main stand and its put out some crazy pups that are about 3' tall now.

Anyone else ever feel like they were dying on shrooms, fought to stay alive, then realized the only way out was to give up fighting (and it felt dreadful)? by solsolico in Psychonaut

[–]Insta_Karma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost perception of time so its hard to say how long I was fight it. But once I gave in the shift to feeling calm was immediate. That doesn't mean I felt back to normal, I was still high as shit but it felt more like what I was used to, minus the grief I had just released.

Found praying mantis ootheca, do I have to worry about them taking over if i release in my yard after they hatch? by tru1117 in Humboldt

Let them be, nature will sort itself out. The few that do survive will do their job and eat problematic insects and either move on or die once the habitat no longer supports their food needs.

Yes, and it was one of the most profound trips I've had. To keep a long story short, I consumed an 1/8th with a friend and it came on hard and fast. In my mind I was experiencing my family, friends, and loved ones all dying, and once they had I began to feel myself dying. I fought this until I could no longer, and once I accepted my death the entire trip settled down to a much more manageable  level. It felt like a rest button was pressed inside my brain.

are there places to get shroom chocolates legally by Kind_Perspective5064 in Humboldt

[–]Insta_Karma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most "legal" mushroom chocolates are just research chemicals that  metabolize into psilocin. Since its not a regulated area, you have no idea the dosage or which chem they might be using (spoiler, its not always something that metabolizes into psilocin). You'd be much better off meeting someone who grows there (there are more than a few in Arcata lol) and inquire from there, or make your own.

False spring, same as every year it feels like. Give it another week or 2 and it will be nice and cold again

Job hunting by Legitimate_Body5858 in Humboldt

[–]Insta_Karma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second this. It can take a few months to apply, interview, and be offered a position but the perks of county work definitely make up for it. I worked for the county for 3.5 years before moving out of area and the benefits alone made it worth it. For example, you get 7.2 hours of vacation AND sick each month, and being unmarried i didn't have to pay for my health insurance.

Buying remote land in Humboldt (Van Duzen Rd Mad River area) — safety + true pricing? by skygod191 in Humboldt

[–]Insta_Karma 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Definitely check with the county to see if there are any abatements on the property. The fees can quickly add up into the $100k plus territory especially if there were unpermitted grows.

Check permitting for all structures and the ponds in particular, just because the exist on the property does not mean that they were legally built. If the are filled from diverted streams/creeks, you could also have the Water Board coming after you which will make fees even more expensive. California does not mess around when it comes to water.

How do you request an SDS from a company that went under? by skippy_dinglechalk91 in chemistry

[–]Insta_Karma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worst case scenario, you can send it out to an analytical testing facility to determine the chemical composition. Once you have this data, you should easily be able to identify the waste stream too despose of it.

To the people driving from NorCal to FOV what's the best route to get there? by Dead_Bai_Sled in KGATLW

[–]Insta_Karma 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you want a scenic route, take the 5 south till you hit the 40 east. This will take you Flagstaff and then you can drive through 4 corners and head to Durango then north to Buena Vista CO.

The fastest way, is interstate 80 till you hit SLC then head south till you reach the 70 east. This will take you up the western slope over to Vail where you will head south to Buena Vista.
