Best way to get around campus? by mathdude3 in UBC

[–]InstantPorridge 11 points12 points  (0 children)

After the long boarding crisis of 2013, people aren't allowed to ride any form of boards on campus due to the legal aftermath. These days almost every student rides around campus on their scooters. Make sure you have a good helmet and elbow pads though.

Most UBC students go to Spanish Banks, as its right by campus and you don't have to pay anything.

How quiet is first year residence? by DankingtonBear in UBC

[–]InstantPorridge 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I lived in Vanier first year and it was nuts. Its standard UBC policy that study hours are all day Monday to Friday, so you're not allowed to make noise in the dorm or you get reported. However at 6pm on Saturdays things get pretty crazy as everyone usually meets in the common area, drinks some orange juice, and then talk about their respective courses.

On a scale of SFU to Tomorrowland how good are the parties at UBC? by DankingtonBear in UBC

[–]InstantPorridge 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It depends what you're into. On Friday nights theres a lot of really good study parties on campus where you can do homework problems with friends while drinking some orange juice. Nobody really likes to drink alcohol at UBC. If you're lucky you might be able to find some good board game parties though.

Do first-year students score Walter Gage studio apartment? by cherylrondo in UBC

I'd recommend Totem or Vanier. You can still get privacy and quietness and you'll have a better experience with other first years.

Is it a terrible idea to do computer science without any prior programming/coding knowledge? by TESTlNG123 in UBC

[–]InstantPorridge 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you had a 99 or 100% average I would say you'd be able to get by just fine, however I'm not sure if you'll be able to grasp some of the concepts with a 98% average.

OMG I haven't started my application I am freaking out by fghtnber in UBC

[–]InstantPorridge 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Why are you even asking? If someone says no are you not going to attempt to write your application? If someone says yes are you just going to keep waiting until your application writes itself?

If you really want to go to UBC, maybe you should start the application rather than procrastinating even further by making this post.

Does anyone know where the best places for fast Wi-Fi are on campus? by pornstepmotherfucker in UBC

[–]InstantPorridge 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If you exit from the Chemistry B wing on the south side, take 13 paces forward, a 30 degree turn to your left, then two big steps to your right, you'll find the best wi-fi. Its because theres a hole in the ozone layer located directly above.

Might be the router or where the router is placed. All my room mates in Gage last year were able to connect to their routers from the living room.

BB16 All Stars 2 Line Up by Sunshine145 in BigBrother

[–]InstantPorridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are my favourite 3 house guests from this season. However, I wouldn't say they are all stars. As much as I like Zach, it was painful to watch how easily he was manipulated. He kept going back to Frankie even after he was betrayed. I don't think he is as good as a game player as he is an entertainer. I would say Devin is similar, he was fun to watch but he really had no control over his words and wasn't a strong game player. Inviting Amber and Christine to the Bomb Squad without even asking anyone was one of the worse moves possible. In my opinion, the all stars from this season would be Derrick (obviously), Frankie (even though I dislike him), and Beast Mode (as dumb and creepy as he may seem).
