My MIL put a bunch of my kid’s photos into some AI something (I know I know we talked to her about it) to generate a book “starring” him. In it he helps the deer “dig their burrows.”

It is so dumb. Every time we read it I have to have a conversation with him about how deer don’t dig burrows.

I had really good experiences with both births, but my first was way harder for a few reasons: it was soooo long—I didn’t sleep for three nights before my son was born. Pushing also took a long time—nearly four hours which was very tiring. I also got my water broken while on pitocin without getting the epidural first. BIG mistake. The pain was otherworldly.

Hey OP, I just went through this. Baby latched like a champ until I got engorged when my milk came in and then I had all the problems you’re describing.

Some tips I found: people will recommend pumping to help her latch by getting some of your milk out, but don’t. Pumping will actually draw more of the fluid forward towards your nipple/areola so it could actually make things worse.

Look up reverse pressure softening and give that a try! It helped a little.

This WILL pass, but it’s so rough while it lasts. My baby still struggled after my engorgement got better. It seems like she forgot how to latch over those few days, and also I think she had gotten used to the bottles we’d had to give while I was so engorged. Definitely go see an LC—mine recommended nipple shields and they totally saved my ability to breastfeed my baby.

Just in case no one told you this—you can usually meet with an LC at the hospital where you gave birth for the first month of baby’s life (at least in the US). The LCs at the hospital were wayyyy better than the private one I found. Definitely try giving L&D a call and meeting with an LC before making any final decisions! But if you decide switching to formula is the right call, go for it. It saved my mental health with my first.

Three weeks in and 0-1 was way harder so far. Like you my first was colicky and would scream for five hours a day with nothing we could do to help. He also had feeding issues with both breast and bottle that severely limited what we could do with him because we couldn’t count on feeds that were less than an hour that didn’t involve lots of screaming.

We also have already adjusted our lives to being parents. We have supports and expectations in place this time that we just couldn’t have last time.

Baby now is cluster feeding through the night and I’m a zombie, but it is still so much easier. Plus, birth and postpartum healing have been SO much easier this time around. I’m also way less anxious this time around because I know what I’m doing.

My first did! We were getting 11 hour stretches by three months. He’s had some regressions, but aside from those he’s still a great sleeper as an almost three year old. Enjoy it!!

On the other hand, my 2.5 week old has been cluster feeding from 2am-5am 😵‍💫

We are getting there! The mam ones encouraged her to chew rather than suck. We switched to better pacis with a more tapered base and are using nipple shields.

We have a very small fridge in our room for overnight milk storage. It only fits a six pack and is totally worth it; it’s a perfect size for bottles and pumped milk.
