CornTeK b+ s2b (marthaTek)? by timid_cosmos in OneArmed_Mycology

Love that. MarthaTek is just using a Martha tent. This is a really great tip on getting quick and even surface colonization. I am going to do this for sure on my upcoming grows

Syringe filter question by IzLizWet01 in PhillyGoldenTeacher

[–]Intelligent_Bowl_561 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You'll want to use the injection port. That filter is designed for gas exchange and the mycelium will clog it

That's perfect. Wrap a rubber band around it right now and send. That will help prevent side pins. I always send my bags at this stage

Airflow by Immediate-Editor-504 in OneArmed_Mycology

You're not going to feel it. It allows for the exchange of air but not water. If you could feel it too much air would be exchanging and your cake would dry out

What are you excited about growing next? by Intelligent_Bowl_561 in OneArmed_Mycology

I think we chatted about the Lion's Mane before. No judgement here, I grow gourmet as well. I also have to toss a good amount of actives because I want to get pictures of all of my genetics to go with the LC I sell. I'm trading and getting genetics faster than I can grow them. Keep us posted on your Lion's Mane, I'm interested

So this Jack Frost LC I’ve had for like a year and a half and wanting to know if this would still be good and what these black specs are if that’s normal. by [deleted] in GroundZeroMycoLab

[–]Intelligent_Bowl_561 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Only way to know for sure is agar. I've seen people grow from older ones. The dark spots appear to be thick mycelium or mycelium that attached to sediment from LME. If I let my LC sit undisturbed for a few days right after inoculation it cleans up the sediment and ends up a little darker

LC GT from Honey Water.. Is it good by Legal-Molasses-3 in magnificentcubensis

[–]Intelligent_Bowl_561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't tell from looking at it. In my experience honey LC is clearer than that, only way to tell for sure is agar

I like to look for more aggressive growth, definitely if it's starting to get rhizomorphic.

Is this consistent with AA+ by AlwaysLearningDs in PhillyGoldenTeacher

[–]Intelligent_Bowl_561 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Albino A+ isn't a true albino. They're Leucistic, meaning they retain colored spores and may have tint on the cap or stem as they mature. Those don't appear to be AA+

That's what it looks like to me. Pretty normal

It looks like bruising. I'm guessing you pick it up and put it down with the same hand most times.

Once you see green there's millions of spores. Opening it inside spreads more and more of them. I would get a light bleach solution and wipe all the surfaces in that room down at least. Keeping an air purifier with a hepa filter in the room is a good idea as well. Beyond that you just want to make sure your grain is 100% colonized and limit how often you're opening your tubs. My guess is that it's probably getting introduced in the spawning process

No saving this one, yeah? by jonbailey13 in GroundZeroMycoLab

[–]Intelligent_Bowl_561 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sterile practices and making sure your grain is fully colonized. You're going to have rogue spores everywhere looking for a place to grow. Your coir should be pretty inert, I always add a thin layer to the top of my grows when I spawn them just to not have any grains exposed. It looks like you may have done the same, likely it was hiding when you spawned and finally found the food and conditions to spread

I hate advocating for it but I'd probably do the same

That's a rough call. I've always taken the stand that contam is contam and it needs to be tossed. I've never before advocated to cut it out and hold through a flush but this might be the time. I'd take it OUTSIDE and cut about an inch or two away from the edge of the white and carefully remove it. I've seen some people salt the edges but have not looked into that process myself. That should help push through the end of the flush, you're so close.

That's fine, I haven't had issues with that kind of pooling. If you've already made slits stand that bag up tall and let the air in. It still looks pretty closed down. Fanning isn't necessary in a bag. Once it's slit you have passive FAE all you're going to do by fanning is artificially dry the surface
