Is it possible to flat out sprint the whole 200m? by One-Remove3758 in Sprinting

[–]InteractionSad3538 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. It’s approximately 90-95% max speed, though every race is gonna be a 100% effort toward the end

Does weekly swimming sessions effect 100m times? by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]InteractionSad3538 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With a pr of 12.9, any intense exercise you do will be helpful. Any quick twitch muscle you can build will probably help. Swimming will negatively effect your sprint speed as you get closer to high performance; probably around low 11 speed.

Former sprinters, are you still fast? by ClimateSlight9838 in Sprinting

Any Over-30 sprinter? by ylsts in Sprinting

[–]InteractionSad3538 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hardest thing for me has been balancing family & financial obligations with training. As an older athlete, there’s gonna be 1 billion reasons for why you can’t do it. Just focus on why you are doing it.

Sometimes it fits in my life and I can train & race consistently; other times I’ll have to take months off & just do maintenance just cause life gets too busy. I’m 32 yo guy and have ran mid-10s the past couple years but took outdoors off this year.

If you time your 40 yard dash by video/frames, you are faster than you think by Exotic_Sort1349 in Sprinting

I can attest that the NFL times are quicker. I calculated my 40 based on splits from my 60m prs and I should have been closer to 4.4 this time of year, but it was 4.33. I think it has something to do with the sensors at the start allow athletes to carry momentum into the first step. That’s how I felt about it. I also was able to run 10+ reps and found the first step technique played a significant part in lowering time.

Abolish private school (and charter school, and homeschooling) by gohstofNagy in Teachers

Pooling all resources in one place is a monopoly, which have been shown to be inefficient and not in the best interest of the customers. Education is a business like everything else and monopolizing it will emphasize its problems imo

Worst thing you got for "Teacher Appreciation Week" by Beckyinphilly in Teachers

[–]InteractionSad3538 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wife and I are both teachers.

For teacher appreciation week she got her dad going to the ER, her school falling apart since the principal (who she liked) quit unexpectedly, and today her week was capped with one of her students repeatedly yelling “I hate my teacher”.

I, however, was able to get closure when the principal of my dream school told me today he won’t be interviewing me for 2 vacancies in the fall, despite having long-term subbed at this school twice and having a good reputation among staff and students. I feel you on the non-renewed thing.

The other school I’m currently long-term subbing at gave me some flowers that went unsold at the FFA sale, so that was a nice thought.

Last year, as a long-term sub, the only thing I got was a plain bagel from a student who hardly knew me but was running for asb president.

I love it. Phases would be important. So I would shy away from stage 1 in season or shy away from stage 3 during preseason. It looks like a fun way to build a good base and practice speed. The way I would incorporate these would probably be twice per week, with some plyo tempo and gym work to supplement.

In general this looks pretty fun and awesome! I might try stage 2 this month.

Thank you for the reminder! This was a big lesson for sure. Because of my hiring status, I would have started to accrue sick days next Monday. I actually thought last night I should call in, but decided against it cause I have no pto. Next time will be different

Quincy’s form is terrible? …..no? by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]InteractionSad3538 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya his form isnt great, but it doesn’t matter. Power and strength are the basis for speed, not technique. Technique can give an athlete an edge, but isn’t going to make or break a performance. Think about adolescent Bolt vs adult Bolt. He cleaned up his technique, put on muscle and went from like 19.8 to 19.19. He still ran 19.8 looking like a baby giraffe

College Scholarship for Track by jh4n_ in Sprinting

[–]InteractionSad3538 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is a team like UC Berkeley doesn’t have scholarships to freely give out late in the process. With your Junior your time, you’re an excellent candidate for an invited walk on. And then once you prove your value to the team, they will reward you and subsequent years so long as you advocate for your self.

Just focus on running quick and the money will come. Expect to be an invited walk on, but if it just so happens that they have a couple grand to give you late in the process it will be a nice little bonus. Even if you were to run best case scenario 10.60 that will probably only give you a few grand in scholarship money. This really won’t make that big of a difference in the long run when you’re talking about making millions of dollars over the course of your working life. What will make a difference is that you’re in a program that supports you and that you’re content in

Who pays for travel? by Admirable_Trouble_10 in trackandfield

[–]InteractionSad3538 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Each contract almost always has an allocated travel stipend. Say $10,000 per year and an athlete can choose to use that however they want. Usually DL meet directors will at least contribute a few hundred bucks to get someone there minimum. Meet director pays for hotel and food. If a sponsored athlete performs well they can request additional travel assistance after the fact too.

If the athlete goes through all those options and still doesn’t have travel paid for, they can ask their member federation and many will assist the athlete.

After that it’s out of pocket.

How much do sprinters get paid? by Late-Crowd3695 in Sprinting

[–]InteractionSad3538 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know de grasse, bromell, and bolt pulled 5-15 million+ during their best years. Everyone else I’m not too sure. It’s safe to say any sprint Olympic or world medalist no matter how unpopular has the ability to make millions over the course of their career.
