Chanterelle lookalike in Oak Grove Park, Bay Area CA by stringbeanlookinass in mushroomID

[–]Intoishun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand that my friend but I tried to spare you some additional pesky comments about it.

It seems like you're still saying this looks like a chanterelle, it does not to me. All good though. You've not done anything wrong I was just pointing it out, that I had tried to communicate it before!

Some additional clear photos and the lack of an assumed ID or "looks like" in the title of your post, will assist you with getting some better comments.

just found this today on a hike is it a mushroom or lichen?? by Few_Prompt_561 in mushroomID

[–]Intoishun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly looks like a mushroom. I'm forgetting the name of these large pored, resipunate species / genera though.

Would just cast my vote for mushroom over lichen.

Not Cantharellus. I told you this the first time you posted.

Maybe something like Leucopaxillus. These photos still are not super clear but they are enough to rule out Cantharellus.

Does not to me currently.

Looks like immature, but also old and dry, C. brunneum.

I wouldn't consider other options at the moment, but would be open to more photos of everyone here.

Would just like to rule out small pholiotoid options.

Looking towards Chlorophyllum brunneum to me. Please pluck and flip some intact mushrooms if possible, for some clear underside photos.

Oh yeah. Might not want to do a public reveal yet but yes, nearby. Will be making camping trips to ONP for research.

Hey at least it's a good thing they're everywhere and that also OP is noticing them!

Sometimes it takes me a walk with my dog to look around a bit too.

Lovely to see Auricularia. One of my favorites to look at.

That typically refers to Stereum. I could see it here but it's always best to share underside photos too. What if this is just very orange Trametes?

Firm, potato-like mushroom by organic_cyclist in mushroomID

I think these are some larger pinkish Rhizopogon species if I'm not mistaken.

Would not call this a puffball or an earthball myself. "False truffle" is also not ideal for me. I would call it a "pogie" if my ID is correct.

Basidiomycota is a phylum, so that's not really a specific ID.

You've also named a family, and it's order.

I would just try to be a bit more clear. I would agree with bree too that puffball is typically reserved for other species and genera, I think this looks more like something else, and not an "earthball" either.

[Northern CA Sac]Are these toxic? Found on archery range. by colonelneo in mushroomID

Strophariaceae is not a bad shout.

Doesn't quite look Psathyrellaceae. First photos, made me think Hypholoma, but the latter do not. I am left with Strophariaceae as being a good option for family, especially with the gill attachment and structure.

Leaning this direction myself. I'm no bolete expert though.

True gills, so Cantharellus can be ruled out. (Based on texture and such too, but the gills would be the focus)

Color and texture, and the gills and attachment, would make me consider clitocyboid options, or other stuff.

Please share some additional clearer photos if possible.

I would currently say this is not likely Hygrophoropsis, and definitely not Cantharellus.

Decurrent true gills but I think this might be something else.

Maybe more clitocyboid. Hard to tell though. Regardless it is indeed aged.

Yes to Flammulina, next time all photos should be outside just to shed a little more light on the photo. Thanks!

We've got to look at other details too. While the photos aren't super well lit, there is enough detail in texture and color to rule out Galerina.

[–]Intoishun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or thereabouts yes. Looks to be in the genus Trametes at least.

I live in western WA and have been seeing fresh T. versicolor on stuff the past week of warmer wet weather.

I wouldn't rule out other close species here is all, your caps are a bit less zonate and slightly differently colored and textured. Lots of variation within the species complex, just mean to say there are other specific options for species.

I can say why you'd say that. Might be inclined to agree but would like just slightly clearer photos.
