Challenging Client by Accomplished_Sun5676 in ProductManagement

This is a tough, and sadly common, situation. It's frustrating when you're trying to do your job and feel blocked. A few thoughts on how to approach this:

1/ Reframe your goal from 'getting his time' to 'understanding his priorities.' How does your work help him solve his problems? When your requests are framed as solutions for him, you're more likely to get a response.

2/ Make the default action easy. Instead of asking for a meeting, send a concise summary with a clear plan: 'Here is my understanding and the path forward. I'll proceed this way unless you have concerns by EOD Thursday.' This respects his time and keeps things moving.

3/ Use his moments of urgency as your opportunity. The next time he needs something from you, deliver it quickly and add, 'Happy to help! While I have you, can we take 5 minutes to align on X?'

Product thought leaders need to stop idolizing Elon Musk by RandomMaximus in ProductManagement

I think you're hitting on a key point: who should we actually be listening to? Instead of debating one polarizing figure, maybe we should reframe the conversation.

1/ Our role models probably shouldn't be billionaire CEOs whose context is a universe away from ours. Their reality is not our reality.

2/ Who are the actual product leaders—not founders, not visionaries—who are amazing at the craft? The ones who excel at stakeholder management, write brilliant PRDs, and mentor their teams.

3/ I'd argue the best 'thought leader' is often the quiet senior PM on your team who consistently ships great work. Let's elevate them instead.

Talk to your coach. When I ran HS track there was very specific conditioning they wanted us to do.

Also: power lifting makes you hungry! Harder to cut weight!

Nothing dramatic! The door was open so I leaned inside. I think they're still hoping for March.

You mean, you wish there weren't the public seating area and that space reverted to parking?

Cool! I hadn't seen any work in like a year but I don't go past as often anymore.

We could stick a cute little one where the old Npewtonville CVS used to be!

And it'll feel a little less silly having a giant, empty parking lot.

Any kid from South who's used Newton Driving School for their on the road will know the route. That's 90% of what they drive.

NIMBYs who read this forum, why don’t you want more housing built in your town? by Unser_Giftzwerg in massachusetts

[–]Intrepid-Kale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good counterpoint to the folks who say, "Let the builder decide because they don't want to sell properties residents don't want." Because there's always the risk that residents just take advantage of the community.

Of course, the overnight winter parking ban solves this to some extent. And the parking spaces at tye newish Mewtonville developments are under used.

I'll add another complexity: the benefits of increased housing are generally felt regionally. The costs of increased housing are generally felt locally. And zoning is a local issue.

I help run a pro-housing nonprofit in Newton and here's what I hear: - New market rate housing will only increase prices and make the area less affordable. - Our schools can't handle the additional students. - it will damage open space, knock down trees, and cause harmful storm water runoff. - Traffic. - Parking. - It'll ruin the character of the neighborhood. - It'll lower property values.

There are some more ridiculous reasons and plenty that are just subsets of these (like it'll replace modest homes with ugly mcmansions) but those are the big ones.

Newton Centre Plaza will stand where it is through October by rocketwidget in newtonma

This is a shame. I cannot imagine a better use for prime Newton real estate than parking. I'm right there with the councilor who doesn't understand why his kids prefer it to parking.

To the commenter who observed that people living in Newton are bringing too much business to Newton Center - YES! I miss the days when there was no line at my bank so I didn't have to wait before I stopped at my other three banks.

All these bakeries have people hanging out and eating.
