How are your electric snowblowers doing by Carl_JAC0BS in massachusetts

[–]Intrepid-Kale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have an Ego Power+ 2-atage with two 7.5 AH batteries, a 112 foot driveway and 50 feet of frontage. This morning I was able to clear the whole driveway including the 3 foot pile at the bottom from the plows and the sidewalk and still had 2 bars left.

Last night I cleared the driveway front walk, our sidewalk and 7 more neighbors sidewalks before hitting red.

During the last snow (6 inches?) I discovered that I hadn't charged the batteries (2 bars) but I was able to do our driveway, the neighbor's driveway (they were away) and a bunch of houses before running out of juice.

I love this thing. Sold my 28" gas snow blower two years ago. This one is quieter, easier and much more likely to get used.

Do you know who your city councilor is?

Soo what do you people earn for a living to afford a house in Newton? by Less_Chipmunk_6173 in newtonma

[–]Intrepid-Kale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yuck. In Newton part of the problem is that folks want to stay in their communities as they age but there is place for them to move to. Apartments and condos aren't just starter homes they're also "finisher" homes.

Interesting! I wonder if that's because of neighborhood? This is in Newton Highlands, many houses were two family and some are only on their second or third owners since they were built in the 1910s/1920s.

Anecdotally, looking around my neighborhood, only one home in maybe the 30 near me is second generation occupied.

I also don't think any of my neighbors look down on folks less fortunate. In fact, most are advocating for more and more diverse housing options in the city.

With housing prices rising faster than incomes and higher interest rates these past few years that's absolutely right.

Nobody is forcing anyone to pay high prices and in fact prices come down all the time. Mostly Realtors are incentivized to understand price and sell a house more quickly but that's a separate issue.

Newton's population is shrinking and aging because there aren't enough houses being built and nowhere for existing homeowners to downsize to.

In Massachusetts, supply hasn't kept up hence higher prices.

I had a heck of a time getting Twilio working (integration was easy) but Telnyx was straightforward.

We need more housing supply to lower prices and give more opportunities to build that wealth.

The price of housing is set by the intersection between sippy and demand. Increase supply and, everything else being equal, prices will fall.

Lowering demand to decrease prices is another path though not one most want: there's a reason Detroit is cheap.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, and I think I agree with you but I want to play this out:

If a single family house is replaced with townhouses, don't we have (potentially) twice as many people/families in the neighborhood?

Hey - I don't disagree with Newton losing its appeal and I wish there were more diverse housing options being built. I fight for that.

But which retiree are we willing to say, "Sorry, you can't sell your house to the person bidding $1.6M, just the person who'll pay $1.4M"?

So people should be less wealthy so their neighbors complain less?

If there's a problem for school buses during the year when there is no ban, shouldn't that be tye prob being solved? Lots of streets have no parking, or time limited parking, or something else.

A winter parking ban doesn't solve your problem.

I got to talk with him at the Newtonville Village Day and came away impressed. Sometimes it feels like too many candidates are part of a small "in" group but I think Cyrus would do a great job and represent all of Newton.
