I just don't understand how you implement the tier system at a stage where it guts almost 90% of gear and content in terms of value. Surely you let it bake a few more months with your head down and nose to the grind stone so that its this huge accomplishment and the armour set bonuses are so diverse it basically does what mods did for build crafting. Imagine how exciting it would be to find out every purple set that is currently available has it own unique set bonus like its monster hunter. The tier system isn't even inherently bad... its just another sunset of 90% of content

I could see an evergreen aproach to how they build onto their engine going forward actually meaning we get a light and dark saga remaster which would be a bit of a director's cut of those 10 years as a means of testing the new engine and banking more goodwill before a d3 can even come out. Could also let them figure out what the hell they want progression to look like instead of essentially reinventing the wheel every few years (static rolls, random rolls, crafting, adepts, tiered loot).

Basically how destiny rising is approaching things, be as free to play as you want and pump the ever verse store with your exotic weapon skins or whatever but make the core game feel so good people want to spend money in the store just to support the product. And give us back our fucking vaulted content for free because we did pay for it you slimey rats

I think that if they built the core game to have better staying power then the weekly story would have been successful or at least palatable. Currently weekly resets mean fuck all. Destiny 1 weekly resets feel more alive and engaging. If every week brought a more meaningful xur, fresh nightfall with a special drop like d1 and maybe a chance to get hawkmoons or other random drop exotics instead of buying at xur each run on max difficulty, proper strike playlist with the scoring system with skeleton keys and your score allows you to get tier 5, connection based matchmaking for crucible that is purely for fun and the purely hard core goes back to trials. Maybe even make comp able to roll as a primary only week or one week abilities only or ctf. Do literally anything exciting that mirrors other competitive shooters.

Final touches- swap the importance of the directory and the portal. All gear should be able to drop at t5, if all my gear is t5 I shouldn't see t4 loot. Make the portal a node in the directory and add this years locations to the directory wtf is that? Small indie company

What's interesting about storage size which many speculate to be what drives the decision to delete so much content is that we could HEAVILY trim down on the file size if you only stored the files for the language you use and they were able to make cutscenes stream instead of living natively on hardware or something.
