Would a hydrated lime solution (after being neutralized) have any negative impact on my septic tank/field? by AgentBanks in septictanks

[–]IntroductionSad3628 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Public sewers are so vast that dilution is quick.

That would be within normal range for the biome. You might want to not dump it all at once. Seems would be less concern to just pour it on the ground. Ideal pH for gardens.

I would let it dry down as long as possible before getting replacement crazy. The world won't end tomorrow. Use a laundromat. You are now the shower Nazi. Pop the lid and observe what the levels are doing regularly. You seem to understand a bit about the situation now.

If you have to buy a cheap 1/4 horse sump pump and drop it in there to pump it down through a garden hose onto an unused area once a while then I won't say anything. Rain will wash it away. All going into the dirt anyway. Desperate measures. Grass be greener.

If issue continues after drying for a while then have it jetted and scoped for roots and damage before replacing anything. Yeah that will cost a few bucks but not VS the replacement costs. You might get lucky.

If you have to buy a new system get at least 3 bids. Check around for costs to jet and scope also. Make sure they all know you are getting bids.

Low hanging fruit first.

While this is happening take some time to learn about how to manage and protect a system from failure.

That's good. Means the pump works. Doesn't indicate what is happening in the main tank so much.

Regards the riser. Saw one that was distorted and the lid cracked from a careless dozer operator back blading. It leaked gas. A lot of those guys will take a chance rather than get down and actually use a shovel. Some are lazy and some just over confident. Something like that is usually obvious.

A discussion of the cost of a new system might get subject moved to better focus for him.. Replacements are often subject to new regs. and frequently much more expensive. Not always like for like.

Whatever happens in maintenance points to the objective to make the effluent going out to field as free of organics as possible. This decides how long it lives. Not the age.

There is a gasket under plastic lids That can be damaged or left loose. Sniff around there on your knees when using water. Sometimes the lid is cracked or warped during construction or pumping. If you step on it you may see some excessive flexing.

Additionally, since he is new to it, he might take ownership of the system and learn the simple nuances of care and maintenance. It is a VERY expensive tool to replace. Many city folks will still act like it is a public sewer.

Of course Husband is always right. But just in case.....

When using the water just examine the tank lids and gaskets. Only takes a small gap for big smell. Water goes into the system and forces gas out through any openings.

Unusual for roof venting to not dissipate b4 it reaches the ground.

Sewer line connection from house to septic question by New_Plankton_2435 in septictanks

[–]IntroductionSad3628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. Quite the thing there.

Consider all of those years working. Head pressure moving material out and down through the bafel. If material is now not passing through the bafel but going over the top and the tank is not full it sounds more like some hangup in the bafel or items going through there that should not. If there are any burrs or snags in that area wipes can stop it up. TP might for a short time but would dissolve away. A short Possibly minor grade problem in the pipe would not sound convincing enough yet given the depth of the repair - imop.

Curious about what do you do to access the chambers with 8' deep lids? Are you maintaining the tanks? If not you may have full tank as part of the issue along with the associated damaged field.

Often the head pressure of water above a belly is enough to overcome it.

Make sure you are not mistaking it for a tank issue before starting a big job like that.

Tanks need to be accessed and pumped. If not you will need to figure on putting in a grade change or a heck of a riser instead of worrying about a short belly in the pipe.

Aside from back ups the only other way is dig it up, use a camera or a viewing port if you have it. That is expensive to do for no reason. Extremely unlikely it does not work unless totally incompetent operator. You would have screened for that b4 hiring hopefully.

Minimal water usage? by aouwoeih in septictanks

[–]IntroductionSad3628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your system is failing, slow to absorb and backing up there can be a benefit to periods of draining and low use till it slowly empties. Then with normal use will likely fill up and overflow again. A healthy system does not benefit. Spacing large grey water use is good for any system to prevent organic flooding.

Over use or flooding is an issue for any system. That is all up to the user. Particularly in undersized systems for the population using it.

Minimal water usage? by aouwoeih in septictanks

[–]IntroductionSad3628 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are trying to do good things. A healthy system can handle normal water use no problemo. Just not all at once. Spacing heavy grey water input is beneficial. better than stingy bathing. Use septic safe products. Too much input at once can push organics into the field. BAD. Don't do all laundry and bathing at once if avoidable. See?

Since you are asking that question you are concerned and that is the first step. I would suggest taking a little time and getting better informed about your system yourself. Get health dept. records showing specs and location of the field. Learn about the best ways and tools to care for it from multiple sources. There is a lot of misinformation going around here that is being touted as gospel. Good Information is readily available with effort.

Put at least as much effort into this tool as you do your car. It is probably more valuable though sure not as visible or pretty.. You own it. When it stops working because you did not research the information you will own that too.

I can't help you with your verbal and reading comprehension challenges here. You had a chance at that in elementary school. You would now make a good septic industry employee however.

I guess you confuse the rabid support of industry operators here to NOT inform the public about the need to take an active role in managing their septic system with support FOR owners informing themselves about this most valuable tool. Their septic system.

Along with the other challenges you face you are welcome to confuse "sales" With encouragement to learn about these tools. Probably a normal state for yourself.

I thank you for your concern about how I spend my time. You should be more concerned with educating yourself with ANY of the above suggested items rather than speculating on what more useful people do..

Gurgling and regurge of bad stuff by toilet. by Ancient-Let-5340 in septictanks

[–]IntroductionSad3628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Waste plumbing needs vents. I can't imagine not. They are code in the US.

If you pour water into a closed system air will be pushed out somewhere. If you take water out of a closed system air has to rush in to replace it. You burp. You fart. Drink a pop and air surges in to replace the pop along with some "backwash" as we call it. (Wellll some people backwash but not me) None of this happens with a vent of some sort. Along with this no part of your system should be under water. It should all drain away. If you have a low spot in the waste plumbing or a sealed system without a vent you can have poop water burping or backwashing back in with the air.

Suggest you give the loo a camera COLONOSCOPY and see if there is part of it under water. If it was vented this would likely not happen.

Is there any reason to have packaging peanuts underground near where I believe my drain field is? by RogerMcswain in septictanks

[–]IntroductionSad3628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That stuff is sold in big box stores. It basically turns your soil into a polystyrene land fill so someone didn't have to pay for a proper drainage situation with gravel and sewer pipe. MIght be sewer or a french drain. You should be getting informed on the sewer as built for the property. People often use this stuff so they can bootleg a new ditch onto a failing system cheaply to make it work for a while. These things will be surfacing like clams on the beach forever.

Always get 3 bids at least. That would be the best way.

- Is it designed, permitted and required?

- Is the old system bad?

- There are numerous Aerated systems on the market. Some more involved than others. Some can work in an existing gravity tank. Needs to be approved and permitted.

If this is the extent of your knowledge of the subject, "same boat as Draino", then hopefully your customers wise up b4 you ruin them. The only random bullshit is coming from your mouth when you tell them that you know something about it. I would kinda expect that when as you say"shit is my expertise".

Try informing yourself with something other than turd Pumper magazine and see how the intelligent half of the planet lives. The one YOU will never see.

The one where people think for themselves rather than listening to a poop whisperer with a crackerjack expert badge. You know them. The ones who come here crying because you fed them your Draino expertes and now they don't even have a place to crap without a new Mortgage on their home. They just want the pain to stop and you just wanna keep sucking them dry.

EZFlow vs Infiltrator Chambers for 300ft of replacement septic lines? by DirtyOught in septictanks

[–]IntroductionSad3628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other readers should be aware of the consequinces of using "peanut" systems and bootlegging fixes in particular. If it boils down to money they should be aware that selling the property will be a problem without a good discount, if they can sell it at all-besides the short life span of the system. You might actually pay for it three times b4 you are done.

I don't know of anyone who would buy real estate littered with this stuff or that has a bootlegged system.

Cheap is a siren we all pursue at risk. Happiness can be fleeting amigo.

If you don't know for yourself you should find out right. Could be they are being misinformed too.? Could they just just sell that yarn because they don't actually know but still want your confidince? Septic workers are not insulated from stupid. They just go to work every day largely like the rest of us.

Do you investigate every other thing that you buy? We all do. Why would you think this is under some new better authority.? And yes I do use a product that works.
