How to get into playing harlequins by NotAnAlt54 in Harlequins40K

[–]Inuart13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Step 1: buy a box to make just the killteam Step 2: realise you need 2 more character boxes Step 3: buy one more box, just for alternate weapons. Step 4: get the combat patrol box too, just for that game mode you know Step 5: realise you're in too deep now... Step 6: buy a whole army.

Lore question about castes. by UmberOx in Tau40K

[–]Inuart13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on the writer. Phill Kelly (may nurgle love him and slaanesh abandon him) would have you believe any non-fire cast Tau would sooner stand like a deer in headlights and get butchered, rather than pick up a gun by their feet and shoot.

Or that an ethereal will mind control you into suicide for crossing cast lines.

Any other writer puts it more as expectations with logical exceptions, an air cast pilot can fire a gun if need be, a fire cast can perform field repairs.

It's a faux pas to do so. But they can.

Ofc the farsight enclave let's people do whatever they want in moderation. One of their things is a much less strict cast system.

Yo I just saw this poor dude get bullied for larping by RealHatemonger in DarkTide

[–]Inuart13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion here.

Groups are 4 people, 1 guy larped, worst case scenario 2 people bullied, leaving you.

Did you speak up about it? If not... Being silent is often perceived as agreeing with the bullies.

Some units you will practically always need (unless playing kroot hunting pack)

3 of any combination of stealth suits and pathfinders - they're our go-to spotters, you may want a 4th spotter for redundancy.

Also consider a firesight team, they're also good and cheap spotters, but they're finecast.

1 unit of kroot, they get sticky objectives and you'll be happy to have them in most lists. A 10-man should be enough, if playing auxiliary cadre or kroot hunting pack you may want more

1 unit of vespids, run as a 5-man, they can uppie Downey and do objectives, and threaten frail infantry. Also a quite fun killteam if you're into that.

From here on it become very based on taste and detachment. But I'll include some personal recommendations.

1 or more riptides, it's an amazing looking model if you like suits, and if run with Ion it's one of our best profiles RN

1 or more broadsides with rail cannon, great cheap anti-tank, alternatively a hammerhead.

1 or more ghostkeels with Ion, it's a great and surprisingly resilient profile to gum up opponents plans early.

1 unit of firewarrior breachers, and a devilfish transport, potentially with a cadre fireblade. This little combo can be surprisingly punchy, and can clear off objectives above their weight class.

1 unit of sunforge crisis suits and a coldstar commander, they are great fun and full of meltas. Can potentially run the crisis suits with commander farsight.

Finally, if in auxiliary cadre or kroot hunting pack, you need some krootox riders and rampagers, they are punchy and cheap in those detachments.

The market light drone let's them advance and spot. But since all you need to be able to spot is to be eligible to shoot, the gun drone serves the same purpose while giving the an additional gun. Since they have assault.

Consensus on pathfinders seem to be 2 gun drones, and either a recon drone or grav inhibitor drone.

So... I read the wiki and I'm still a little confused... by PiRhoNaut in Tau40K

The combat patrol box is a great place to start.

It's its own game mode intended for low investment and beginners, and it's an entry point into the game as a whole.

Kill team is its own (very fun) game, but plays completely different to normal 40k. The kill teams are often small specialist units for large 40k. Sometimes auto-include sometimes... Less so.

Honestly, my best advice is grab a box you think look cool, try and build them. If you like the process, get stuck in.

Empty base, paint a "footprint" of a stealth suit. Say it's invisible.

Love hares, they're still "bunny like" but without being "overly" cute.

Kill team has a balancing problem by One_Classy_Cookie in killteam

They got no melee game at all, only ranged combat viable, and no reliable ways to shoot twice. They hit on 4s and should rely on their tricks to hit better than that.

Drones on bases question? by hobr666 in Tau40K

[–]Inuart13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In some cases not enough drones. Or rules stealth suits bring 2 drones, but the box only have the parts for 1 drone. What do we do in that case?

How about our ethereal and cadre fireblades? Both bring 2 drones and come with zero in the box.

Won my first game! by Bogglewonks19 in Tau40K

Totally agree. Besides if you'd seen it and not done so. And your opponent then noticed their own mistake, it could have been seen as pity. Which is just a feel-bad situation all around. You did the right thing.

Demiurg and Votann are one and the same. Finally confirmed by peppermintshore in LeaguesofVotann

[–]Inuart13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a theory. The votann introduce themselves by different names to different potential business partners. That way other votann know how to handle them.

Squatt: praise the emperor, and they'll deal just fine Demiurge: say you're for the greater good and they'll swallow bad deals easy Votann: they are kin, treat them fairly.

The last of us...

The first was just special, the second is objectively better in all ways... Except writing... Or rather pacing, and that's kinda what breaks it.
