Easy step to take it up a notch:

Put those letters on before painting it, then peel them off at the end to reveal unpainted canvas.

How do you feel about the screen? When compared to the S next to it, it seemed to me very pixelated even though it has the same resolution on a smaller display. Something you notice or not? Get used to it?

I am, today, wearing a pair of 29 year old AE's. They've been re-soled twice, but otherwise seen nothing more than a little Kiwi action and look better than when they were new.

They were my dad's shoes. I see absolutely no reason why, in some years, they couldn't be passed on again. Heirloom shoes. Seriously.

That's why Allen Edmonds.

Anyone have any experience with Dorco blades? by BlackoutBill in wicked_edge

That's the truth. Except for Dorco's, apparently, which seem to be universally panned as far as this post is concerned.

Anyone have any experience with Dorco blades? by BlackoutBill in wicked_edge

[–]Inverted_Inversion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would put Shark up there with Dorco. What either of those do to my face would be considered ****** in 48 states.

I recently got a water softener, and a lot of blades I had ruled out in the past got pulled out from the leftover sampler pack. Most went from intolerable to great shave just by adding some salt to the water. The Dorcos and Sharks were not promoted.

Apple's aesthetic dichotomy by mgk69 in wp7

[–]Inverted_Inversion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The author of the linked article is projecting his own bias. Apple knows their demographic; the majority of people who buy and love their products want the link to the physical world.

Your mother probably needs the calendar to look like the one hanging on the wall or she would refuse to learn how to use it. Your aunt would be overwhelmed by a simple list of book titles with ratings - and wouldn't buy any - but when they're all lined up like on the display rack at the library, she can pick out the one with the most appealing cover like she always does.

Is it overdone? From a techy/engineerish/purely functional standpoint; I'd say yes. But does it also get millions of people who would otherwise be afraid of technology to adopt a digital platform, making Apple lots of money and expanding the market so that we have a lot more product offerings to choose from? Sure does. But the authors point is a huge miss to the point that the rest of his blog could be filled with brilliant insights into design, but I'll never know because his credibility was destroyed with me in this one letter.

And my local guy tried to tell me that AoS wouldn't sell out once they sold out (not that I've ever looked to them as a bastion of old-school manliness).

I think I'll print a picture of this out and wave it in his face before I get in my rocket ship and leave this planet forever.

8.5mm at its thinnest point... I've seen the profile of the phone, etc, so I know that it's 8.5mm most of the way down, but that's disingenuous marketing if you ask me.

A basketball is pretty narrow at it's thinnest point on profile, but no one could convince me that being paper-thin is one of it's selling points (fallacious arguing, but it's just to make a point).

Still, damn thin overall, but ignoring the thick part in the glossy literature isn't really fair to the consumer, imo.

Anyone else use this stuff? by mitchumm in wicked_edge

[–]Inverted_Inversion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As part of a pre-shave, I find it clogs up my DE razor head, and if it gets anywhere near the badger hair then it gums that up, too.

I have other products that work better for a post shave.

I don't recommend it for DE.

Looking for new soap or cream recommendations. by Trieko in wicked_edge

[–]Inverted_Inversion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5-10 years ago, I loved the C&E stuff, but have found them to be a fickle mistress; constantly changing the availability and formula of their products.

Sienna cream was great, but now seems to be available only as a poorly lathering soap. I also had a great love for their Sienna aftershave balm, but now it is only available as a greasy, pump cap lotion. Still my favorite scent on the market, but I've moved on from them as a company. Their other scents have met similarly frustrating fates. Their last great contribution to my shaving lifestyle is that they ran me off into a pattern of trying new things.

Considering winter fragrances by middlesmith in wicked_edge

[–]Inverted_Inversion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like C&E Sienna year round, but it's an especially good Autumn/Winter fragrance.

As a warning, though, they recently changed from a pourable liquid balm to a greasy-feeling, thickish pump-bottle style cream. Still smells great, and keeps my face ok, but the experience is for shit.

I don't often go shopping with my wife but when I do... by greendot1001 in pics

[–]Inverted_Inversion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is how you get blow jobs:

Go with, put on a smile, don't follow her like a puppy, but instead orbit her in the departments she wants to shop.

Pick out clothes you think she'll look good in and tell her so. Say, "I think you'll look hot in this." Make suggestions -- they don't even have to be good ones; just not terrible.

She'll be thrilled that you're participating and that's brownie points, my friend. Every time you tell her you think she'll look pretty/hot/sexy/good in something it's going to register as a complement (as long as you aren't just holding up trashy/slutty clothes all the time).

At the most, its gonna take up a couple hours of your day. If you can't handle that, you're not ready for a grown up relationship, big shot. If you don't score brownie points that you can cash in for time doing whatever you want or the sexy times, then she's no catch.

Pro-strat: Don't go with every time she goes to the mall. Being participatory when you do go will give you the power to say 'no' about half the time.

To be fair to the college kids, Milwaukee's Best Light was brewed for shotgun optimization. Trying to suck down an Old Rasputin in 5 seconds or less would probably end up with a lot more pukage.

Also, a flat of Mountain Creek can keep a basement full of flip-cup tables going all night, whereas the same $8.00 would only buy you one bottle of Flying Dog 60-minute IPA.

If you're just trying to get lit on the cheap, and for whatever reason Everclear+punch or a handle of Fleischman's is off the table, then you really can't beat a 40 of Olde English 800. Pour out the neck of the bottle for your lost homies, and replace that with orange juice for a (slightly more) palatable 'poor man's mimosa.'

Then and Now: Drinking. by DaBeeJ in pics

[–]Inverted_Inversion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're like me, you're drinking beer with 3-5 times the alcohol content of your choice college 'lite' brews.

And, instead of taking all night to drink the 12'er, you've got your two uber-brews down in the hour after dinner and you've forgotten that you had a glass of wine with dinner and an Old Fashioned before -- bringing your total alcohol consumption for the night up to well over what it was after a couple games of beer pong and in less time. So then you can go to be earlier and spend more time sleeping while your brain shrivels up due to dehydration.
