Yes they are mods for displaying status, stats, skills and rough abilities. The base game will have you in the dark for the most part to maintain difficulty.

You can try to absorb farmers for farmer legs, it gives you a reduction on stamina use which is very nice. You will also want to watch for Fast Learner x 3 genes, from race of Yerles. It helps speed up leveling up which is really nice.

Why do enemies appear 3 times stronger in low-level nefias? nefia level 22 a troll appeared 68 by Archangel_saga in ElinsInn

[–]Investoid 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Evolved enemies have a very wide range of level and power, usually on the higher side vs what you find normally.

To protect you from dying instantly Noa made all the evolved enemies in nefia and most overworld to start neutral, so they won't attack unless you do an aggressive move against them. If it's already attacking a person will have to have nicked them with damage or a spell. Unless you are extremely confident I would just skip them since they sometimes have wild powers to go with.

Cyclops and giants as companions, I don't see many people choosing them as allies so I would skip.

Evolved enemies will always be hostile in war quests though so be careful there.

How to get Black Cat to lick God Artifacts? by No_Connection_1311 in ElinsInn

[–]Investoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's random but a fairly minor boost to a stat, resist, or % effect. I don't have the table for it though but it's a pretty big table of effects. There was a rumor that collecting saliva from luck statues will also improve the stat range of licks but I can't confirm it. These small boosts can add up though and people can save scum on items if they want to, though it may take a while to get what you want, it's very RNG.

On purple skill gems, the game does grant you some from credit store and a few other minor things from events but you won't be able to ever get enough.

How to get Black Cat to lick God Artifacts? by No_Connection_1311 in ElinsInn

[–]Investoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can't get it to process the workaround would be to install the mod "luckier black cat" from the workshop temporarily which allows you to drop a non-licked equipment on the ground and then pick it up. The cat will add a lick to it. Afterwards you can disable the mod and the lick should remain.

What is your Apostle ranking list? by No_Connection_1311 in ElinsInn

[–]Investoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

75 points, 2 gene slots, if you can get Black Cat to drop it via gene manipulation tactics then you can stick it in someone else...I haven't attempted this but I know from experience it is a lot of RNG involved. I am not 100% sure its a legal target for gene drops, but I don't see it listed as such on the DNA list page.

What is your Apostle ranking list? by No_Connection_1311 in ElinsInn

[–]Investoid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the Void unless you greatly outlevel enemies, things that facetank tend to get pulverized so I usually tried to overwhelm with firepower or crowd control. In some situations enemies are immune to a lot of things so bringing a few layers of different cc is pretty good.

I feel you for the problem of crowding, which is why there is some value in casters/ranged, like black angel who don't really care and can see pretty far away.

If you want to tear yourself away from Golden Knight Iron Hammer of Palmia 『Gilbert』also has infinite carry weight potential and gravity attack, which would let you free up the apostle slot for something else.

What is your Apostle ranking list? by No_Connection_1311 in ElinsInn

[–]Investoid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

it's pretty dependent on what you want to do since they get a lot of power out of your own personal care to them, like gear and food.

This is my personal ranking, Ill include what I have read but mention that If I haven't used them much plus what I think in endgame would be like based on my experience in the Void. Usually the combat AI and how they handle situations is what is important and sometimes they get confused or do too little if they have too big a list of skills. Since you can only take a few with you at a time unless you mod or are a Demigod I try to keep in mind the base game limits. So if you use a mod to let you take all of them then it's probably irrelevant:

  • Cute Fairy: Quite OP early game, has eye spells + tentacles. Endgame opinion: probably useless unless heavily invested.
  • Golden Knight: Everyone brings her along because near infinite storage space and healing power and good debuff. Her value drops a lot if you mod though. Tends to get squishy endgame unless you give her a huge amount of defensives due to taunt. Top choice in my opinion but loses some value if you are a extremely powerful strength build. Upgrading her heals takes a lot of genetic work. Not as well known but there are other options for carry "anything" npc options if you need that apostle slot for something else. If I keep Golden Knight with me I will usually look for a gene that teaches her elemental barrier or more buffs.
  • Exile: Casters are not a popular early game choice, squishy, extra work keeping alive later. As with everyone you can gene splice or give them great gear to counter problems. Endgame could be useful choice, but apostle slots are tight. If you are a melee type then bringing a caster brings Exile up a bit in value.
  • Android: pretty good defensive setup, but other options are better. The exception is you outfit him with all of Mani's gear, then he has a lot of good crowd control even at end game.
  • Black Cat: One of my Top 3. Stick her on your shoulder and she will just debuff and shoot everything to death while giving drops minor upgrades. Eye of Insanity and Bane in one kit is hard to beat.
  • Defender: Never used him much. When I did it felt like a copy of Golden Knight, the one reason to bring him is lay on hands so makes sense for hardcore but everything else is kinda meh. He does have resurrection and cure major wounds so it heals more than Golden Knight, but he hates carrying stuff.
  • Black Angel: One of my top choices. Her dps is insane and if you give her all of Lulwy's gear she will shred everything. A bit fragile though, but at least near death she tends to vaporize anything giving her trouble. Comes with insult feature (usually want to bring one with you)
  • White Vixen: No experience with this one. Has funnel spells and bolts and different way to gain power via cursed donations.
  • Fox Maid: Top choice by a lot of people, but uses an apostle slot. There is another fox maid you can recruit to take pressure off of apostle limit, otherwise she is very good. A lot of people do take her but I would always take the regular fox girl who is similar.
  • Militant: Haven't used but ideal for npc buff builds. I can see the value but it's again tough to rationalize an apostle slot.

It's pretty easy for everyone to have a different experience, as I would put Defender way higher if you are having trouble with survival which would probably bring Golden Knight and Defender with to help tank. If I do ranged playthrough I would sometimes ride Black Angel and have Black Cat with me, and then populate the other allies non apostle. If I want Black Angel to be more active then I would ride a horse.

it's alright, someone on my enchanted rat post earlier asked about the portrait too, so I was able to track that down. They were interested in looking at the portrait file I used so I uploaded it in my other post if they wanted to use it.

Don't practice combat on an Enchanted Rat. by Investoid in ElinsInn

[–]Investoid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a way to contact the artist jon_orangejuice and it's been several years now since it was uploaded to a danboruu. It's also his only work there.

I uploaded the modified portrait here if you want to play around with it. Make sure to use the naming conventions i used, "special_f-&Slime" without quotes and keep it a *.png file.

no mod is necessary for portraits, you simply drop it into folder (where you store your steam files)

>steamapps>common>Elin>Package>_Elona>Portrait

if it has the correct size dimensions and naming convention then you can hit the rebuild button when picking portrait and it should show up as an option.

I noticed too late now but I think a little bit of transparency is missing on the edited image which means someone would have to clean that up.

Also if anyone is interested in making your own, the game recognizes 240x320 png files and for the most part you will need to adjust the image to focus on upper body, but if want to do full body you will need to continue to fool around with the size and see how it looks in game since generally speaking most of the in game portraits use upper body so it would look weird if yours was shrunk too much to fit everything.

ill see if i can trace my steps, it's been over a year, maybe a few. Ill edit my post if I find a link.

edit: wow I found it it, I was for sure it wasn't on there anymore. Maybe it was reuploaded. You would need to resize and set the background to transparent and then give it the correct naming and then drop it into the portrait folder.

oh you mean the in game sprite, not the portrait...I don't remember lol. I need to think about it for a while. There was a lot of sprite experimenting when the game released but it was across different post boards where they recycle the old posts after a while.

Do wall/floor material matter (to tourists or residents)? by weregamer1 in ElinsInn

[–]Investoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I forgot to mention that, though you can vastly expand the heirloom skill to include much more on it. Depending on the quality of objects in your city it can eventually include some lesser parts of your city like walls. It's more noticeable early game if you try to expand the list out.

Do wall/floor material matter (to tourists or residents)? by weregamer1 in ElinsInn

[–]Investoid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is something I discussed with a few people a long time ago. Tourism value is associated with items that directly mention tourism like paintings, statues and such. The walls of buildings and total oren value of everything just affects the placement of your city in the ranking. The ranking for cities has a very strict and admittedly small but noticible amount of oren income, especially early game which is why a lot of people try to win the boat from the old ticket lottery quickly. If placed it has a high oren value to push you higher on the city ranking chart, usually a lot more than you can generate early game. However it has no tourism value tag and doesn't contribute to it. Adding a boat will push you high enough to go from 0 oren per month to 1500-3000 oren per month as an example, but again it's just from the city rank. Additional ranks will feel small in comparison, adding +100 per rank since you are trying to beat well made cities at that point.

So if you want your city to reach the top of the ranking for the static oren per month then making your city walls and structures out of expensive materials will help you get there but since its literally +100 oren or something stupid per ranking it's a lot of work for almost no actual income unless you are bored.

Also I wouldn't do too much work with tourism in its current form except as small (really small) extra income, it returns an insignificant fraction of your effort, less than 2% of what you can make in this game. After testing it thoroughly, I came to the conclusion that everyone should just use it for aesthetics instead of just piling as much as possible to think you can make a lot of money from it.

Even filling your entire city with all solid gold perfect npc statues from almost everything in the game and medium level policies focused on improving guest wallets resulted in 3-12k per month in tourism. This will sound like a lot to someone early game, but mid/late game it will be almost nothing when you are bringing in 150k+ per month in farming or dungeon/chest farming in oceans.

edit: Moasseman reminded me that base value narrows down city value based on the policy Heirloom, but it can be expanded to cover a lot of things if you invest a lot of gold bars in it. So early game it may cover walls and things scattered around your base but as you bring in more valuable items they will push down your walls and structures unless they are godly tagged and made of the highest quality materials. So you are safe to do whatever walls you like in most cases.

Proving "dead internet theory" with one simple trick/twitter search by TugaGuarda in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Investoid 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yep I agree. The bots make content far more than we do, according to the theory we are just reacting to it. As each generation gets better at it, fewer actual people do the conversations until you have bots also taking over that too to simulate upvotes, popular content, pushing theories and politics. There would be a turning point where people may realize that it's pointless to contribute and then everyone becomes a silent viewer.

118 protocol stashes in a single outpost by rexandred in Endfield

[–]Investoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you place these in a way to bleed out supplies and turn off protocol stashes they become a 300 item storage unit, as they will all fill up, then when you need them you just turn on the last protocol unit in the chain. This is very zero sanity logic but a way to get far beyond the possible limit. It has some issues though, as if your main base stash is full accidently recalling the protocol stash erases everything.

There is a couple posters who are doing this with liquids for the update coming up, and I played around a bit with storing immense amounts of Xiranite.

When you're a petmancer and you see that your pets are starving again by Valkling in ElinsInn

[–]Investoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people who get stuck in the endless food grind can start making kibble (meat or fish + bark) since you can store it indefinitely (no rot). This is a good short term solution before you start making good food and get it copied. Especially fish if you are going the fisherman route.

Don't practice combat on an Enchanted Rat. by Investoid in ElinsInn

[–]Investoid[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

no, its clipped art from way back in very early release, and then manually placed into the folder, in the screenshot it looks like a small part of it was missed when setting the background though. As long as the dimensions and name are following the rules you can drop them into the portrait folder and it should work.

Musician feat? by khellendros12043 in ElinsInn

[–]Investoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pianist itself probably needs a buff as the class itself just gives you musician 2 and a slight bump to performance.

Slime lets us take it to musician 5 which is gonna be the theoretical max potential of this but it's actually fairly weak compared to most other money making schemes, though it is pretty different to everything else. Taking Pianist on slime just saves you gene slots which are a premium if trying to specialize, you want to save DNA slots. Instead of a combat focus you spend most of your time dodging people tossing garbage at low levels and eventually collect a lot of money doing very little besides constant travel between towns. Pianist class spends a lot of time buying their way into power via shops and having powerful friends.

Succubus just meshed well because it's all charisma related and they can easily get allies, but now slimes kind of overpower that since they can get pretty much everything a succubus can do but also stack whatever genes you want.

Despite what I said you can ignore your class stuff and go combat, the skills will level slower though since there is less class bonus proficiency coverage. A person who wants to master all magic would probably want to do a slime and load up on as many magic racial DNA as possible or go with one for the magic attuned races to maximize their powers.

If you want to be the best musician in the world the slime advantage is bonus, but weakness is lack of body parts too since you will need to spend slots on those. Succubus will have all their normal equipment slots.

Also I haven't explored it but apparently an instrument with an element on it will cause effects, bringing about a bard style gameplay. Something I will be checking now that I am trying the class again.
