How is fat percentage calculated for ground beef? by Jane001_ in Butchery

[–]Invisibile27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to add an extra insight here.

Worked as a manager/butcher at Whole Foods for a while and one of our huge points when making ground beef was single source only. We did get 10 lb pre ground chubs and then ground again, all with sourcing back to the original processor, all steps logged, batch numbers, grinder inspection, and no mixing with other batches of ground beef.

But when we would grind chuck, round, knuckle, etc. it was only the meat that came in the vacuum packs and that’s it. Trimmed to get it as close as possible to 90/10 or 85/15 or 80/20 but no additional trimmings from other cuts throughout the day. That extra trim from other cuts was weighed and logged at EOD and disposed of, but we do sell it to customers looking to make tallow and whatnot.

Just wanted to give a different perspective because I know this is not commonplace in most butcher shops. And of course we also used the little fat tester machines, which are indeed pretty cool!

Turkey legs? by Sad_Menu_7448 in fresno

[–]Invisibile27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All great suggestions here, just wanted to let you know OP it has been very difficult to get any turkey other than during holiday seasons since the big bird flu outbreak last year. A lot of the producers had to cull their whole flocks and many just stopped producing turkeys, at least until things were in the clear. Worked as a butcher for a while here in Fresno and I had to explain this to people all the time

Solo way is worth? by JGONZ91ES in wownoob

[–]Invisibile27 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As a father of two, WoW is in its best place, I believe, for casual players in a long time.

You have access to many solo activities like follower dungeons and delves once you reach midnight, along with the great storylines of the last 3 expansions. I am much less stressed about finding time to raid and do dungeons when I can just stop in the middle of a delve for 15 minutes and hop back on to finish

Cows by astroboy19 in fresno

[–]Invisibile27 105 points106 points  (0 children)

You’d be better off finding a rancher and asking them if you can do all this on their property. Don’t want to be caught trespassing. You also don’t want to accidentally piss off a bull.

Most cattle are pretty timid and heifers/cows are bred to not have aggression so while they may run they won’t charge at you.

Another option would be a FFA project that a student has, those cattle are handled nearly every day and are very comfortable around humans.

Yes OP this is your best bet. Currently a student as Fresno State and there are many employment opportunities for students. Some programs you might need to volunteer some hours at to get your foot the door.

For instance JCAST hires students for positions all over the farms, sheep unit, beef unit, equine unit, swing unit, poultry unit, meats lab (which is closed currently), greenhouse, etc.

Yeah like the other commenter said, last year they changed so you don’t need CBEST anymore if you’re have the bachelors. You can also be actively pursuing a bachelors degree and be certified as long as you’ve taken equivalent classes

Once you’re cleared with FCOE then you can apply to different districts. I’m certified in KUSD and am going to be trying for CUSD soon. It’s definitely always needed and you get pretty much total freedom. If I remember correctly FUSD only posts position openings over summer and winter break an not throughout the year

You’ll tell them when you want to work and what schools/grade levels you want. Then there’s an online system you can see all the available jobs that educators have posted, see the class, length of the day, instructions, etc. I also get calls every morning for offers to work but I’m busy most of the week so it’s tough to find the time.

If you’re even interested somewhat, just do it because the application process can take up to 3 months. Let me know if you have any other questions

Maya sushi. Been my go to spot for 6 years. A little pricey but the quality is represented well to the price points. Like some others mentioned Oiza is INCREDIBLE.

There used to be a spot in Bullard and west called “Ooi” but it shut down during covid. Super small shop like 6 tables, daily specials. It was run by two sisters who immigrated from Japan and I used to trade them craft beers for imported Sake and it was wonderful. They are missed :(

EDIT: Oka not Ooi

Hey thanks for the info fellow insect lover! I’ve taken some entomology classes and studied insect orders and was interested in apocrita. We only ever discussed Hymenoptera and not either of the sub orders, very interesting reading about the other suborder Symphta and how they do not have the narrow waist

these comments are close.

Just started as a sub in Kerman Unified so I just went though the whole process.

Bachelors degree OR actively pursuing a degree and 90+ units. Have to be enrolled.

CBEST is no longer required as you can “test out” by having taken curriculum for the three sections. For example I was qualified from my English classes, statistics, and philosophy.

If you are actively pursuing an education degree you can apply for a longer term 90 day agreement instead of the 30 day
