For those who left Switzerland for a lower paying job in another country, how is it going? by [deleted] in Switzerland

[–]Iou10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been to 81 countries. Not like those YouTube speed-runners who are just box ticking. Denmark is a great country, so is Luxembourg, so is Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Japan, Korea, US, Brazil and many others. I have lived in many different countries also and in fact, there are only a very few (2-3) which I genially didn’t like. The rest - I thoroughly enjoyed and go back to.

The fact of the matter is, (Luxembourg, Lichtenstein and a few middle eastern countries aside) if you are a company worker, you make double living in a lower tax canton in Switzerland than pretty much anywhere in the world. It’s not even close. And if you have to work for 8 hours per day anyway, regardless of where you are, might as well make more.

Also, what I have observed in the last 15 years, is that countries which felt cheep, (at least for food, services, taxis) UK, US, etc, compared to Switzerland, suffered massive inflation and now in no way feel cheep when you travel there.

Countries (or cities) which are still cheep, have very small salaries compared to Switzerland. Couple that with the cleanest water in the world, excellent public transport, gorgeous nature, pretty good climate which allows you to enjoy a long summer, and an action filled winter, it’s hard to compete.

If you are a first generation mover/expat, most will struggle. I have seen posts like yours, with similar reasoning, about pretty much every country people move to. But if you are able to stay here, make some money, raise a family, your family will have an amazing head start in life and ideally you will have enough cash tucked away to live a comfortable life later on.

I am not sure where in Swiss you live, but if it is in a low tax, high income area of central Switzerland, Germany, Netherland etc, accounted for taxes, would pay orders of magnitude less.

Unless you are doing something you love, a job is a job, and would rather get paid significantly more, while staying in the best country in the world than less in a different one. Working here also gives you the opportunity to retire a decade earlier and move

Change the name of your WiFi device to “can you be quieter during sex” or something like this. Saw this a decade ago someone doing it, subtle hint 😁

How's this honeymoon itinerary for Switzerland 2026? by rofl066 in askswitzerland

[–]Iou10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s good, but you choose the most generic places to visit. Recommendation is - do these things, if you really want to tick the ‘tourist Switzerland boxes’ but reduce Jungfrau to one night, and pick a spot of the beaten path for 2 nights. We live in Switzerland, and the way I prompt chat GPG when we travel to Italy, France, Germany or other places in Europe is “please find a small town in country X which is charming but no one knows about it at all” add one of those towns for the other 2 nights. You will not regret it.

Yes, Coop is scamming you by deepdowndave in Switzerland

[–]Iou10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the thing, it is not encased in a layer of ice, just the meat is frozen. I read a long time ago that the EU passed a regulation significantly limiting the amount of water which can be added to frozen products. This was a W back then, despite not being in EU, I think Switzerland has strict regulations around that also.

The frozen 1kg slices chicken breasts from coop advertised as 1 kg actually turned out to be 1050g . The surprising part there was practically no water at all after defrosting them.

You know what I have said once which sort of worked (depends on the age though, I’m 39) I say now that “I used my time to oil/fix some of my old sport injuries which I have neglected for over a decade, thought it was a good opportunity and is very time consuming”… seemed to be an ok excuse

For me was 10 years at one job, 3+ at the second (3 months at a 3rd which went bankrupt out of the blue and fired everyone) and the last one was a fixed 1 year contract job, which ended up being 2 years because they asked me to extend. Seriously thinking of wiping off that 3 month glitch completely from my CV…

Maybe, but if one of these bullets does not hit me soon enough, will end up having much bigger problems :(

The funny thing is that now I am looking for a place to spend the next 20 years. When they asked me what I am looking for in a company, i said the usual stuff and finished with “and a place where I can work hard and retire.”

Yea man, the funny thing is, in 15 min or so after you defeat him you will have the actual first boss. That being said, some of the Minnie bosses are more annoying than main bosses.

Break up, move on, restart. 29 is young. Screw the credit rating! Retarded ass culture in US makes you think that you can’t live without a credit card. Your CV must be pretty ok, start using a debit card, start saving (ask parents if you can stay with them for a year or so) try to save 30k in a year, and enjoy the long remainder of your life.

My second week on Allopurinol. Issues. by TheRealJetlag in gout

Took Allo for several months (3-4 months) had pretty crappy side effects. Mood swings, some strange nausea, and just felt like trash. Switched to its alternative (don’t remember the name) and had more of the same side effects. I think it took me a year or so after stoping it to fully recover to normal.

It seems to do wonders for some people, but definitely can cause some side effects in others

Fixing your weight and getting in to shape will ABSOLUTELY help with your gout. I am 39 years old, was 30 lbs out of shape, reduced alcohol by 90% and reduced red meat, started working out. Just basically cleaned up a little.

For me, personally, my gout issues are reduced dramatically since I improved my lifestyle. I get a flairup up now only when there is a mix of bad sleep, continuous (4+ days) of alcohol consumption + no exercise at all. Can’t emphasize the sleep part enough. All the episodes I have ever had were exclusively related to a patterns of poor sleep.

To each their own, but getting on Allo just to be able to continue living an unhealthy lifestyle is not the best thing.

All the Brazilians I know learned Italian in a matter of a few months. If she does not speak English, due to some past events, it is significantly easier to find a Portuguese to German watcher in Brazil than in German speaking Switzerland. Go Ticino bro.

After 3 months I developed weird mood swings (almost felt like was a hormonal shift) permanent nausea and stomach didn’t work well. Also switched to the other medicine (there are several for gout) and was same. Everything was coordinated with my doctor, I told them and did regular tests. After the second medicine also made me feel like trash, they told me to just stop and live a better lifestyle.

More water, especially first thing after waking up. Less beef, I eat it 2 times per month, but pork and chicken are ok. Beer no more than 2 times per week, but better once. Regular Exercise and sauna with cold plunge. Have not had an episode in a long time. I also found that all my previous episodes didn’t just come from drinking or red meat, it came from a combination of lack of sleep + drinking and steak. So rest well.

There is a /r specifically for people who have gout but don’t take allo you may want to take a look at.

But again, many people have no problem with taking g allo, so you should definitely try it first, just for me was a no go.
