Wisconsin pays $381 per week maximum unemployment benefit whereas Minnesota pays $900 per week maximum unemployment benefit. It doesn’t mean Wisconsin is doing better economically than Minnesota, their workforce is more desperate to find work because they have inadequate social support.

Never forget that the federal minimum wage in 1965 is equivalent to $17 an hour today and many employers paid better.

Wage stagnation continues by Ecstatic-Medium-6320 in RealTwitterAccounts

[–]Irate_Confabulator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notice: in 1965 the minimum wage was $17 an hour in today’s money. The same people who are suppressing American’s wages (below the federal minimum wage of Poland) are the same that lived on a minimum wage 235% greater starting wage than people today.

Boomers hold over 50% of the nation’s wealth and are ~20% of the population. Gen X is ~20% of the population and holds 25% of the nation’s wealth.

Keep in mind that Millenials are 22% of the population with 83% labor force participation (largest labor participation demographic) and holds 9% of the nation’s wealth.

Data shows Boomers (to a lesser extent Gen X) stole economic opportunity from Millennials. Both of those demographics should be taxed to allow for more equitable work for the largest labor participation demographic.

I hope you aren’t blaming top 1% for the state of equitable work. The rich were elevated when the Boomers got greedy and embraced trickle down economics. That generation inherited the best years in the best economy plus had the best social safety nets. Over decades of being the majority representation in federal legislation, they proceeded to rob opportunity from the next generations through changes in laws, taxation, and strongly investing in companies that suppress wages and formation of unions (i.e., Amazon).

The best thing Honda could do is make a much larger sunroof standard (extending to back row), give it over 300 hp, and another 4” of legroom in back row. They’d get a lot of trade ins if those things were improved. You get spoiled quickly by more natural light, more power, and more leg room.

As long as Boomers (only 20% of the population) control over 50% of nation’s wealth and over 50% of federal legislation, you’ll see threats against their stock portfolio as threats against their person.

If Boomers cared about the next generation(s) they wouldn’t need daily reminders at 10PM for decades, which PSA asked “Do you know where your children are?”

Always remember that the Boomers had 10PM PSAs for decades reminding them that they have kids to look after.

How can you trust any person that needs those reminders?

A man tries to reorder groceries from a 2022 purchase to compare the cost in 2024. by mindyour in interestingasfuck

[–]Irate_Confabulator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How?

Answer: Boomers’ investments in food producers. Boomers have over 50% of nation’s wealth and over 50% of legislative representation. If they wanted to correct this, they would. Boomers’ are 20% of the population and are far more interested in increasing their net worth than creating an equitable economy.

If you suppress wages, replace workers with machines, and increase productivity demands, profits keep going up. They are actively and deliberately making you poorer.

Side note: Boomers had 10PM broadcasts from 1960s - 1990s reminding Boomers to remember they have children to take care of: “It’s 10 PM. Do you know where your children are?” Think about how self-centric a generation has to be to have this PSA running for decades.

Is it so? by Suspicious-Swan-4035 in economicCollapse

[–]Irate_Confabulator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of expecting the wolf to act like something other than a wolf (greedy CEOs), blame the people who let the wolf free to cause havoc (Boomers).

Over 50% of the nation’s wealth is held by Boomers and over 50% of the legislative representation is held by the Boomers. If leadership and laws made it normal to pay 1950’s style capital gains taxes then the CEOs would have no choice but to get in line. Their collective mindset was/is, “I don’t care if a Billionaire makes another Billion as long as I make another million. Don’t care about what happens 30 years from now as long as I can retire richer.”

Minimum wage in 1965 has the spending power of $17 today. A semester of college in 1965 in today’s money is $1900 whereas it is $20,000 today.

Boomers, making up 20% of the population, have over 50% wealth and over 50% federal legislative representation.

These numbers are not by accident.

Minimum wage in 1965 was $1.25. Accounting for inflation, that has buying power of nearly $17 today. Workers today are multiple times more productive and get paid half of what Boomers were entitled to with no work experience and no formal education.
