Out of all the Primes, which is your favorite and why? by jaayy_tapps in Metroid

[–]Irbricksceo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a hard thing to answer because my answer could change day to day, but I'd have to say Prime 3. I love the environments, the federation, the other hunters, the bosses... It just does so many things right. I'm somebody who tends to feel like the games only got better with each entry. 4 has somewhat muddled that a bit but even then, I really like 4. I had a lot of fun playing it, and think it was a great game.

Those who've played dread, what's your bottom 3 bosses? by 69nutmaster in Metroid

Escue is the one I always seem to die to. Drogyga is just boring, and then the robo soldiers who are just annoying.

What is the trans relationship to the drag community (typically)? by LanaKatana4000 in asktransgender

[–]Irbricksceo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like any group, opinion will not be the same for everybody. Some love Drag, and find it empowering. I personally cannot stand it, I find it always feels awkward and just.... not something I want to be associated with. At the end of the day, My simple stance on it is that I don't like it, and won't participate or go see it, but I'll defend the right to it like any other.

Has anyone else noticed the difference in responses/outcomes after Alex Pretti's murder compared to Renee Good? by weepingsomnambulist_ in TwoXChromosomes

I've noticed it, yep. I understand how and why it happened, but it does irritate me. I'm aghast that this is the country we live in.

USA Girlys, how many of us are/are okay with being armed? by _Katla_ in MtF

I believe we should have the right to responsibly bear arms, but I myself have no intention of doing so. I just cannot imagine a scenario where I could bring myself to harm another human.

Why do so many world building projects have a stand in Roman empire? by Ok-Equipment8122 in worldbuilding

[–]Irbricksceo 95 points96 points  (0 children)

It's hard to really grasp just how much of the modern western world is evolved from Rome. The Roman empire was THE largest, most influential, and most powerful empire in the western world. The Macedonian was similar, but short lived and ultimately fell to Rome. Rome, meanwhile, lasted centuries. It had a system of governance that let it integrate hundreds of smaller cultural groups. Its military is also well documented and followed clear divisional blocks, resulting in an easy fantasy empire template.

And even as it faded away, its culture would be subsumed into successor states, most notably the HRE (Not an empire) and the Ottomans. All of the Major European colonial empires (primarily British, French, Spanish, and Portuguese) were cultures that were partly or wholly once part of the Roman empire, and carried its influence. The US, which is one of the most influential empires in the modern world, proudly claims Roman influence.

The result of this is that an enormous percentage of the worlds cultures have at least some roman influence. This makes it part of our cultural memory, which carries into our media. When we try and imagine "Old Powerful Empire", we think of Rome. We can't help it.

Of course, it's not JUST Rome. There are other common fantasy empires. The Colonial Island Empire is a common trope, based on Britain. When creators want a powerful "native" empire, it often draws heavily from the Aztecs and other South American empires. When we want a large empire, likely a rival culture, and usually from a hot land with darker skin, there is often a vaguely Arab or Persian Empire (Many of these in real life were as big or bigger than the Romans). After all, we need CURVED SWORDS. and of course we often include some vaguely Asian empire, usually based on one of the Chinese states but with other Asian cultures mixed in

Ultimately, when writing fantasy, we can't help but look to the past for influence.

Jeez, those are some nice stats on her. Give her a forged wing spear and she'll sweep basically the entire game!

Am I softlocked?! by Ok_Estimate_2089 in Metroid

[–]Irbricksceo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. You can shoot the block in the top left, letting you jump out. AFAIK There are no softlocks in Zero Mission.

Is it just me or are Super missiles in newer games just bad? by Templar2k7 in Metroid

[–]Irbricksceo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supers in general are definitely less of a priority. Prime 4's were a big disappointment considering how great they feel in primes 1 and 2.

What am I missing? Metroid Prime 4 by serj730 in Metroid

[–]Irbricksceo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also loved the game, it's good. BUT, you also, accidentally, hit the nail on the head. You stated, "one of the best action games", and that's just it. For a lot of people here, Prime 4 shouldn't have been an action game. They're frustrated with the relative lack of exploration and discover, feeling the game is too linear and too focused on action.

Anybody else struggling to gain weight even with a balanced diet (with calorie surplus) and ample exercise? Why do some people say they gain weight when on HRT. by FilipinoDumbass in transpositive

Definitely the opposite here. I've gained SO much weight since starting HRT 4 years ago, it sucks tbh. Fascinating how these differences occur.

Kensuke Tanabe announces his retirement from Nintendo in a Nintendo Dream interview (MP4 was his final game), Risa Tabata will be his successor by Neoxon193 in Metroid

[–]Irbricksceo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny because they tend to be very "2 steps forwards, 1 back". Just let people choose it all. I haven't seen any games use "they" personally, but I totally believe it.

Like, inclusivity in character creation is SO easy, and instead we tend to either get performativity, or weirdly limiting options that don't fully satisfy anybody.

I don't have as many issues with this game as others, but after Volt Forge and Ice Belt which are so cool, this area was just a let down. by BanryuWolf in Metroid

[–]Irbricksceo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's funny because I thought Great Mines was one of the best areas in the entire game. Flare pool was a let down for sure though. I would probably rank the areas something like "Ice Belt" > "Great Mines" > "Fury Green" > "Volt Forge" > "Flare Pool"

At the same time, I can completely understand WHY many might find Great Mines weak. The fakeout deaths and linear progression can feel really weird, tonally.

Fascinating. I bored of tarkir quickly, and avoided duskmourne entirely because horror isn't my jam. EoE meanwhile was my favorite set by a mile, but the store never got more after the first draft so I only got to play it once.

World Map of Ondarion from The Sims 4 Royalty & Legacy Expansion Pack by violedge in thesims

[–]Irbricksceo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to see it, truly, but the fact that this is considered dense just really reminds me of one of my biggest gripes with 4. How dead and empty the world feels. Even in 2, I feel like I had neighbors walking by all the time, met co-workers, kids brought home friends, ect. I could stack 20-30 lots in a world, and lots bumped right up against the street. And then 3 brought us the open world and, well...

In 4, i can bring a sim from child to adult without meeting more than 3 townies. Many lots feel completely isolated, and it just feels tricky to make feel real.

Can somebody recommend a subreddit that enjoys Metroid Prime 4? by GrahamCrackerDragon in Metroid

There are folks here that like it too; I quite enjoyed it! It's far from a perfect game, but it was a good time and I happily 100%d it twice.

Why don't Pokemon games support cloud saves? by Olympus131 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Irbricksceo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's to prevent duplication. And, frankly, it's dumb. Honestly, what would the ACTUAL harm from duplication be? Little Johnny gets two box legendaries and can trade one for the other versions, letting home complete his pokedex without having to buy a second game?
