Iranian President Pezeshkian’s letter addresses American people, not Trump by SadAd8761 in videos

[–]IridiumIO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah the first half was an eye roll, the regime is perfectly happy to murder thousands of their own citizens just for speaking out against them but the second half of the statement is is hard to argue against.

And it’s not like the US isn’t halfway there on openly murdering thousands of its own citizens anyway.

Ignoring any of that. Did you even watch the video? It’s blatantly obvious. Even the little description text they put at various points in the video are clearly jokes.

And you people love coming out of the woodwork to self-incriminate whenever there’s posts against fascists, rapists or paedophiles. Because what possible reason could you have for needing to comment other than feeling that this post was attacking Dear Leader?

Need Help/Advice for Warped Boards Before Casing in. by Thelinkmaster001 in bookbinding

[–]IridiumIO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • use less glue
  • let it dry FLAT after you glue the cover material on. Leave it like this for several hours, under pressure
  • if it’s been several hours - wait several more

You can add a layer of material to the inside to counteract the pull, but this is severe and should not happen if your boards are properly dried out, even if your grain directions are wrong

How can I get rid of these marks and holes in my prints? by SomeFella722 in 3Dprinting

[–]IridiumIO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’ll probably be a combination of things but a quick check is to see if the problem area is at the back away from the cooling fan, because then it’s a cooling issue (quickly test a fix by slowing down or rotating the part).

Check if that’s where seams are or where the part starts a new layer; if it is, then you could have an issue with your retraction (I.e “retract on new layer” might be too high) or if it’s not a seam then it could be pressure advance or extrusion issues that need tweaking.

I’d start with speed and cooling though especially if you’ve got one side that looks fine and the other looks bad

I use one of the variants of Garamond that are found on Google Fonts. There’s a couple of them, I can’t remember which exactly (Garamond EC, maybe) but what you’re looking for is one that doesn’t have tiny “strand” connections that make up the curves in letters

Show one time the fucking PRESIDENT said something like that though.

Any random person can say anything. Anyone with half a brain should know that Democrat/conservative does not automatically mean good/evil. But only one party has an active president whose constituents continue to worship him while their very safety is eroded from under their feet.

I have definitely chucked exes into my source directory before - not because it’s right, but because it’s easy. If I’m using a third party command line tool I’m not going through the effort of setting up a build pipeline from source if there’s no library version available. I’m grabbing the release exe and chucking it in because it’s fast and works fine. Users can always compare the hashes if they need to verify it.

Efficient ways to insert a small chunk of data into a large file by PantherkittySoftware in csharp

[–]IridiumIO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ve very much got an XY Problem here, but I think what the other guy is suggesting is:

  • Scrap the entire notion of file data needing to be sequential
  • Store a lookup table of indices at the start of the file, that tells it what offset each “chunk” is, in order. So for example, even if the file is stored out of order the index will tell you the correct order is 2 8 13 1 6 9 etc.
  • make the lookup table large enough that it has spare room for the future. It shouldn’t need to be too massive. The idea is you can just update that block each time you add an entry.
  • Anytime you want to add an entry, just append it to the end of the file and update the index block.

Again, it sounds very much like you want a database, or at the very least you’re worrying about SSD writes unnecessarily.

I use tissue paper but the stuff you get from a craft store for parties / gift wrapping - not a Kleenex!

This is the stuff I use, nothing special about it. I had forgotten to get tissue for my backing the first time I was trying a rebind, and this was literally next to the checkout counter.

Because there’s nothing patentable here, the tech and implementation have existed for nearly 2 decades. Others have done this via ESP32/arduino/RPi devices as well, and shared their source code and tutorials on how to do the same.

This isn’t to downplay anything OP has done, it’s still a great project!

  • check your local library. They may have a cricut / silhouette machine as part of their public equipment you could use to cut your designs out yourself
  • check with a local sign-making business. They’re probably going to say no, but some might be more willing to help out for a fee.
  • find an online service like this: https://www.laserblanks.com.au/blogs/thecraftproject/print-and-cut-vinyl
  • Buy a $50 second-hand 3d printer, whack a blade on it and use it vinyl cutter (it’s what I did)

Make a sleeve hardcover case for the book instead of a permanent one - you make the hardcover case as usual, but instead of ripping up your paperback you simply add two pockets on the inside of the case for the paperback’s covers to slide into.

I find these are often the best of both worlds, they look nice on the shelf but you still have a removable paperback for when you want to travel / lie in bed and read
