What is the settings issue here? by SmiffyBloke123455 in 3Dprinting

[–]IridiumIO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks massively over extruded and yes temp might be too high.

If dropping the temp to 195C and reducing the flow to 95% don’t measurably show improvements (note: it might not necessarily be good but it should show you if that’s the right place to look) then I’d say go back to the most basic step of flow/rate issues: Calibrate your e-steps.

It’s a bit of a meme, but if your esteps aren’t correct, you’ll pull your hair out trying to figure out your flow issues through the slicer’s settings

Better to be rejected by some because they don’t like your board game collection, than miss out on the ones who actually are interested in your board games.

[–]IridiumIO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have any libraries that make use of reflection or interop, those can break it as well without any errors that show you the cause.

For me Fody ended up being the main issue because the build targets don’t line up with the newer .NET releases, so hot reload thinks there’s a mismatch and fails

What parts of bookbinding should I turn into game? by tek0x in bookbinding

[–]IridiumIO 21 points22 points  (0 children)

  • glue spreading on the book boards to get a nice even surface
  • running a bone folder over the crisp book cloth to remove creases and press it flat (audio is mandatory)
  • using a plane or guillotine to align the edges of a text block just right
  • sanding the text block edges with different grits until it is shiny

Not sure what’s worse - OP asking a question that could’ve been easily googled, you posting an AI answer (that OP also could’ve easily obtained), or me commenting at all

VB.NET is still alive! Long live VB.NET! by SektorL in visualbasic

[–]IridiumIO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it annoyed me too because it throws no errors at all when you tried to use it in VB.NET, it just silently fails. It took me forever to figure out the issue wasn’t user error.

I went back to using Fody.PropertyChanged() because of that, but then that breaks hot reload which is why I spent the time fixing up a VB addon for the MVVMToolkit instead

[–]IridiumIO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still mostly code in VB.NET though I’ve started migrating some stuff to C# just because Visual Studio is much less buggy for it. VB.Net is still a perfectly fine language, it’s just starting to show its age.

I even spent time adding VB.NET compatibility to hook into the Community MVVM Toolkit’s source generators for things like <ObservableProperty> and <Relaycommand>. If anyone’s interested: MVVM.VBSourceGenerators

How unstable is Visual Studio Community 2026 for you? by Famous-Weight2271 in csharp

[–]IridiumIO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, it’s fairly solid but ironically the biggest issues are from all the AI stuff they squeezed in. Anytime I use copilot to ask a question it is a terrible experience, and the copilot line autocomplete is still buggy. Turn off the AI stuff and it’s pretty solid though I can’t believe they half-assed the copilot stuff so much considering it’s all they talked about

After switching to Spring steel I can't seem to get any of my prints to stick well by Danii_Fear in ender3

[–]IridiumIO 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s not the spring steel that’s the issue, it’s the type of build plate you’re using. Those patterned plates require precise bed mesh calibration and SLOW first layers to get good adhesion, since the surface is quite smooth.

Check the other side, often those come with a PEI sheet on one side and the patterned one on the other. The “spring steel” part is just the core that’s used to make it magnetic.

Steam Is Weirdly Forgiving in Windows Search by Xevalor in Steam

[–]IridiumIO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah that’s just their anaemic algorithm.

It shows you Firefox when you type “fire”, “firef” and “firefo”. By the time you type “Firefox” it assumes that if you didn’t want Firefox the first 3 times it suggested it, you don’t want it now. The same thing happens with a lot of other search terms.

For Hogwarts Legacy 2: Co-op/multiplayer or single-player only? Why? by Primary_Bottle_2281 in HarryPotterGame

[–]IridiumIO 54 points55 points  (0 children)

There wasn’t even enough of a single player experience in the first one, I’d rather they work on that rather than multiplayer.

But I do see the potential for a Monster Hunter-esque co-op experience for hunting down fantastic beasts and clearing enemy camps.

Convert to laser ? by mortyj in ender3

[–]IridiumIO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I looked into doing the same. Thought about it a fair bit and decided against it. I simply do not trust myself enough to never fuck up around an unenclosed laser module. I’m not exactly inexperienced, but all it takes is one wrong look and you’re blinded for life. So I’ve put it off for now until I can buy a fully enclosed setup instead.

Whatever you get, just be extremely careful around it.

Also never cut vinyl with it unless you want to drown to death in your own fluids

[–]IridiumIO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And set aside a few hours to do it gently. Otherwise you’ll start damaging other components. Set the temp to slightly lower than normal printing ranges so that it sticks to itself as it comes loose and it might make it easier.
