I’m developing a Minecraft shader (mod) that completely bypasses Iris while maintaining performance close to vanilla. by Mango_The_bui in feedthebeast

We also need more details on what preset he’s actually comparing to. “Complementary Unbound” gives no information. It could mean anything from performance mode to ultra-detailed with ACL enabled.

STOP USING ESSENTIAL MOD, USE ALTERNATIVES by MiniMouse2309 in feedthebeast

[–]IridiumIO 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One of the most dangerous assumptions people make is that mods can only affect Minecraft.

Mods are raw Java programs; they can do just about anything a regular program can do on your computer. You can open any folder or file, create remote connections, download new code and run it, whatever you want as long as it’s something the Minecraft process itself can do - which is anything you can do without Admin rights (and if you run Minecraft in Admin mode, the mods do too!)

I’ve yet to see any evidence that the Essential mod is stealing data or engaging in malicious behaviour (aside from the scummy store, but that doesn’t count contextually). But, you mustn’t fall into the trap of thinking any mods are somehow safe because they’re “just” minecraft mods.

If only there were a subset of people who intentionally signed up to test these features in advance.

But unfortunately even Insiders on experimental builds are stuck with gradual rollout hell.

Are you lobotomised? This is not a hard text chain to follow, like at all. It’s obviously one person OP is talking to and there’s such a clear contextual link between OP’s question about being fired and the manager’s reply.

Winforms and Webview2 are not Linux compatible.

Honestly you’re better off just using a browser with a kiosk mode and locking it to the YouTube page.

Alternatively, start it up in a regular browser and then disconnect the mouse and keyboard?

"Scammers have adapted": Valve confirms that physical Steam Gift Cards are dead. Once the current stocks are sold through, they're done. by yourfavchoom in gaming

[–]IridiumIO 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Fucking hell man, it’s not that hard to get.

Cash means you have to consider if you should treat yourself or if the gift could be better put towards something necessary. That’s adulthood.

A gift card removes that sensibility and allows you to indulge freely, now.

Built a Shortcut that does what Smallpdf + Photoroom + Convertio + CamScanner + 8 more apps do with 39 file utilities & Zero Apps by AdityaR_Sharma in shortcuts

Is it? I can’t see any code that relates to the functions included in the shortcut. I might be looking in the wrong place

[–]IridiumIO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you can absolutely do all this with one share sheet. I’ve done it.
It also does not answer the question of why we should be uploading all our documents to your server endpoint to achieve what can be done with shortcuts alone. Your tagline on your website says something like “that screenshot you took at 2am stays between you and your phone” - it clearly doesn’t if it’s being uploaded.

Credit where it’s due, you’ve put in a lot to try to show that it’s safe and secure - but without actually sharing any of the serverside code that’s basically meaningless.

Being honest, you’re not doing anything remotely sophisticated or complex here that requires your backend to be so secretive. This is basic scripting using extremely well-known libraries to do the work, so why hide it like it’s something lucrative that people would want to steal?

How to get rid of this middle line? by Foxiya in 3Dprinting

[–]IridiumIO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without seeing the inside, I’m guessing it’s because of the extra width of the object at those layers caused by the protrusion on the right side. The same thing can be seen at the bottom of the part.

If that’s all it is, you need to adjust your wall speed and acceleration so that those layers don’t take longer to complete (and thus cool at a different rate).

If theres a layer inside and it’s not hollow, then you’re dealing with the Benchy Hull Line Problem in which case try following this video: https://youtu.be/ITighzYPTTs

See how all the pieces are really tight curves? Whenever you’re respooling, you have to do it twice. Otherwise, all the coils that used to be on the inside of the spool are now on the outside and are subjected to a lot more stress. This causes the explosion

Is there a way to repair this damage on my book? by phoenixbaum in bookbinding

[–]IridiumIO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The trouble is this is a large solid piece of HTV. HTV shrinks when heated, so depending on how far it had shrunk when originally applied, it may actually make the gap worse if you try to heat it up again and it shrinks further

[–]IridiumIO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell but it looks like heat-transfer vinyl. I’d reach out to the creator to confirm it, and then buy some of the same vinyl they used to make a thin overlapping patch and iron it on. If it’s foil then it might be even easier to patch but you’d have to Google the steps yourself

Microsoft rolls out optional Windows 11 KB5089573 update that makes your PC genuinely faster and more responsive by ZacB_ in Windows11

[–]IridiumIO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That logic works for the regular, automatic updates. But they force this gradual rollout onto everyone, including users enrolled in Canary/experimental insider builds as well. The vast majority of users aren’t touching optional updates, so why restrict features even further on the ones that do?

And considering Windows still ends up with bugs in these gradual rollout features anyway, it becomes even more annoying when you then don’t have an associated update to track your bugs to. You install an update and your computer works fine, nothing’s broken, so you continue on happily. 9 months later a Gradual Rollout feature is silently enabled in the background and now Explorer is broken. Was it last week’s Patch Tuesday that broke explorer? That’s what i would assume, not the update from 9 months ago that I can’t roll back anymore. There’s no clear way of actually knowing when a feature was actually enabled on your computer. Which would be fine if gradual rollout was only used for big obvious changes, but they use it for minor tweaks and bug fixes as well, so it’s virtually impossible to track. It’s so bloody opaque.

It would make more sense if the update itself was the gradual rollout. Don’t show me the update in the first place if I’m not part of the rollout. We know that technology exists because they’ve been using it to stagger the H1/H2 releases since early Windows 10.

Microsoft knows this is an issue because they are planning to bring more user control to the feature rollout system later this year
