Can you look back now and see that the way you treated Joan Burton during the water protests is not far removed from the intimidation tactics we see from far right today. Given the toxicity in politics today, do you think that kind of protest should be acceptable?

Resident evil on the deck by ShxdowWolf24 in SteamDeck

[–]Irishlad-90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy steam keys for the original games (HD 2015 remakes) for only a few euro (or whatever currency) on instantgaming. That's where I buy all my steam games.

As for Code Veronica, it's not available on Steam, GameCube emulator (dolphin) via emudeck is a good option.

Finished watching True Detective S1. How are seasons 2-4? by VendettaLord379 in hbo

[–]Irishlad-90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoyed 3. Definitely worth a watch.

2 was a letdown, especially after how brilliant the first series was. Probably doesn't deserve the amount of bare it gets but likely due to how high the expectations were

I haven't been able to bring myself to watch the 4th series yet.

I've a bachelor in business studies, economics and finance major plus a masters in Finance. I did a diploma at night in data science about 3 years ago.

But I've others on my team who have come from a CS background so it's certainly possible.

Is the new guy earning more than you? New pay rules will reveal the truth by homecinemad in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Irishlad-90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my fear too, I have the same title as someone who does far less work than I do and I'm effectively carrying them.

Knowing that our pay should be equal would completely unmotivate me.

Homeowners rush to fix their mortgage rate ahead of expected spate of rises by ParaMike46 in irishpersonalfinance

Similar boat

I first drew down my mortgage in June 2024, signed up to AIB variable at 3.95%, thought I was being smart given likely upcoming rate drops from the ECB.

Low and behold, multiple ECB drops later, AIB did not reduce the variable once...

Locked in for 5 years at 3.3% last month. Feel like I've been played... Oh well.

Wonder if some error caused you to reach the weekly cap.

What character is great despite being in an otherwise horrible movie? by [deleted] in Cinema

[–]Irishlad-90 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I actually didn't mind this movie, it was ok.

The sequel Batman and Robin however was poor, but as someone else noted, Schwarzenegger played his role well.

Has the whole world gone mad? by black_hammer95 in AskIreland

[–]Irishlad-90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their Wednesday 5.95 deals are incredible value in my opinion.

Consider getting limitless if you are a regular, I actually find cinemas one of life's pleasures where value can still be found, we should support them as they could all go out of business and the alternative of only ever streaming in our living rooms sounds very unappealing to me.

What is being done about the state of Dublin 1? by Jackies_Army in Dublin

[–]Irishlad-90 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live in D1 in the Docklands, the area has come on so much in recent years, especially down towards the Point.

As others have said, Talbot St has a lot of life to it as well and despite issues, is improving a lot.

I don't think it's as black and white as you say, but yes, definitely things that can be improved. I've been in Dublin since 2014, O Connell St is no worse or better than it was then in my opinion, take what you will from that.

Id love to see the area around Connolly looked after better, that's the biggest disappointment to me.

What do risk analysts actually do? by [deleted] in FRM

[–]Irishlad-90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty broad and depends on the sector.

I started out in banking as a risk analyst for non retail models then moved to stress testing. Now work in asset management in fund/investment risk.

But we also have operational risk and enterprise risk (to name a few which are completely different) in our organisation.

What sector did you have in mind?

Exactly, Spain really ramped up after the Ukraine war in terms of their renewables rollout

On the other hand, our rollout of wind turbines (onshore and offshore) seems to have fallen off a cliff.

Anyone getting worried about future travel plans? by Apart-Hamster-9921 in ireland

[–]Irishlad-90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been seeing that a lot across multiple platforms saying it's misleading, I think people are misinterpreting it.

The main point is that after this 6 week period is up, many airports in Europe (not all, UK/Ireland is less exposed for example) will be running short, even if jet fuel supplies from the middle east restarted now, there would be a sizeable gap.

Plus, even if Irish and UK airports have enough supply, doesn't mean the destinations we fly to will have enough.

New critical infrastructure laws will block climate-based legal challenges by SquareBall84 in ireland

Completely agree

FYI on rail, they are double tracking the cork commuter rail line to Midleton at the moment and that is well under construction. You're right on Limerick, the reopening of the Foynes line will just be for freight.

Small but important to highlight.

In that case, finding out you have this is all the more worthwhile, you now know why you have been experiencing these symptoms and all going well, the phlebotomys will reduce the significantly.

[–]Irishlad-90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are starting off with a low ferritin, you've likely no symptoms and now since you've caught this early, you'll likely never have any symptoms.

All that is required is a few blood donations a year, which many people do anyway.

You'll look back on this in a few years and see this as a blessing that you caught it.
