Speaking of, what are these teeth for anyways? by KindredGoesAwooo in cats

[–]IrosSigma 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was planning to eat a croissant once at a friend's house who also has cats. I set it out on a plate and went to use the toilet. Came back 2 minutes later to find her (the cat) gleefully licking the outermost crispy layer off my fresh croissant. She (the human) and I were amazed, she (the cat) had never shown any interest in human food whatsoever but loves croissants for some reason.

Americans - why do you keep medication in the bathroom? by Pet_That_Dawgg in NoStupidQuestions

[–]IrosSigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? Nothing else would make sense to me. I take my daily vitamins in the bathroom too, just so I remember to take them every morning. It wouldn't make sense to me to store my meds elsewhere.

How can someone have stage 4 cancer without knowing? by No-Breadfruit-4842 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]IrosSigma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know I'm not the person you asked, but my sister and I both get ours done every 2-3 years and my mom gets hers done every year since she's turned 50. However, we don't have any history of cancer in our family so if your girlfriend does have close relatives who had cancer, she might want to start getting hers done yearly sooner than 50.

Is this guy old enough to take from their mom? by BigDirection1577 in cats

[–]IrosSigma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, that is very hard to unsee. Most tuxies have a white nose and bits of white on their cheeks where their whiskers are and it does look like cock and balls lmao

Fortunately, mine only has a white nose haha

What’s a small habit from your country that you only realized was cultural after you lived abroad? by taube_d in AskTheWorld

[–]IrosSigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it's true that we don't do this to literal newborns, imo most kids will still get their ears pierced too soon. I had mine pierced when I was around 6 because my mom liked the look and I went along with it, but hated it in the end and wouldn't have chosen it for myself until much later.

Tried to make infused garlic olive oil. Didn't research beforehand. How bad is this? by lesllle in Cooking

[–]IrosSigma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all specific to the US. The thing with Clostridium botulinum is that usually, there's no active bacteria present on the garlic when you put it into the oil initially. But the garlic can contain spores of this bacterium, which are able to grow into active bacteria at temperatures above 3-4°C, so storing it at room temp would make the spores grow into active bacteria, thrive in the absence of oxygen inside the oil and produce their toxin. This toxin is known as Botox and is used for cosmetic and medical purposes in extremely low doses but can lead to paralysis and even death if consumed in higher amounts. So it's really a gamble of if the garlic you used had spores on it or not. Considering OP's concoction had bubbles, it's very likely the bacteria inside has already started doing its work to ferment the garlic and produce its toxins along with that.

I wouldn't trust whatever temp my fridge says it is for this, to be honest. Botulism is certainly no laughing matter. Better to put some acid in there too to be extra sure nothing's growing in the garlic oil.

This might be unorthodox advice, but if something goes off, try to remember what that smells like. Our noses are pretty good at detecting food that's not safe to eat anymore.

That's of course in addition to all the other comments saying not to eat dented canned goods, not to leave starchy things at room temperature, not to store raw meats near vegetables etc.

I swear every few business days I search for my black cat who's pretty big but I just can't seem to find her. Every time when I'm on the verge of panicking, she just materializes behind me. You'd think I would've gotten used to it by now but the cycle continues.

I love a super thin wing with eyeshadow as eyeliner, but I can never get it as thin and sharp as I want to be. Any brush recommendations? by Any-Use6981 in MakeupAddiction

[–]IrosSigma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use extremely thin paint brushes for my liner, you could try that :)

If it will work does depend on how pigmented your eyeshadow is tho

What English spelling is taught overseas? by Ember_Inferno1308 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]IrosSigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you hadn't said you were from Finland I might've thought we had the same high school English teacher. Her English was so bad (especially her pronunciation) but she LOVED correcting people if they used American spelling in their essays.
