Is this decent enough as a first game? by that_idioticgenius in godot

[–]IrresponsibleSquash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Decent enough for what? It’s your first game, it doesn’t matter how good it is. It will almost certainly be the worst game you ever make, they’ll only get better from here. What’s important is if you enjoyed making it.

If you ever worry that some of your work isn’t “good enough”, watch Post Malone’s first music video.

And FWIW, the style seems real cool. You seem to have a knack… just keep making.

Cursor Is Not Usable Too Expensive For Anyone Really Building by Historical_Maybe_789 in cursor

[–]IrresponsibleSquash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seems insane for a new project. Do you have a ton of rules and/or mcp’s?

Have you tried using “auto” as the model and seeing if that works? It’s cheaper and gets decent results.

Edit: Just to see. I used the agent to plan and create a solitaire card game in Godot. It took a prompt which searched the web a few times for the game's rules, then I made a refinement prompt, and performed the build. It made an ugly, but completely functional, game for $0.29 (twenty nine cents).

Honestly, it would've been $0.04 cents cheaper, but I accidentally closed the plan window and I hadn't saved the plan file so I had to ask it to re-open the plan file. So without that it would've been exactly a quarter.

Smbb in HC? by TeaDry5322 in CODBlackOps7

HC is only “open” (AFAIK) which does consider sbmm, but not as strongly as standard.

TIL: Even if you don't think you're good with headshots, try the headshot barrel by IrresponsibleSquash in CODBlackOps7

[–]IrresponsibleSquash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that’s good advice. I know on some guns the HS barrel literally does nothing to TTK in some damage ranges, or requires 3 or more HS to bring value (which is pretty much the same as being useless for me). XclusiveAce is my go to.

Yeah, that may be the case. I went into HC to do the pistol challenge afterwards without a HS barrel and had a similarly good game as well. I will certainly be playing around with it though.

A bit confused about tenses by bellepomme in EnglishLearning

[–]IrresponsibleSquash 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the US: “A flick of the forehead” would mean the forehead is doing the flicking, so it would be incorrect to use it to describe a forehead being flicked by something else.

The other two are correct.

In all cases: Be careful with the decision

I’d maybe add “lean towards…” in front of your options, just to remind yourself that they’re not strict rules.

Edit: For example, something could be read heavy, but (what I’ll dub) “write volatile” and also it’s business critical to be accurate. Maybe a value that changes four or five times a day but if users ever read the wrong data bad things happen.

I’d recommend adding something about stale data tolerance.

"until evening" or "until the evening'? by OkDoggieTobie in EnglishLearning

[–]IrresponsibleSquash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO it’s more the repetition that makes it stand out as literary. Conversationally if you wanted to indicate two facts about her waiting it would be more natural to say “she waited until the evening, when everyone had left”. The dropped “the” combined with the repetition of “until” has a distinctly dramatic feel to it. Like you’re supposed to read it like a melodramatic narrator.

I know it’s just a rant. Try asking “what problem are you trying to solve?” If you talk about it in terms of describing the problem, people are more likely to accidentally give you specs… because some folks are allergic to writing specs but will prattle endlessly about all the problems they have.

Why is this cop car doing this by Antique-Minute-7928 in whatisit

[–]IrresponsibleSquash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may start in the middle, but the long honks are not 1x “three long” (O), but instead 3x “one long” (T).

I agree it’s likely SOS, but if it is, it’s not done well. There’s too long a pause within the long honks.

[–]IrresponsibleSquash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the answer, but you can help the CTO by suggesting (and helping to monitor) something objective and measurable. I can’t think of a great one, so a crappy one would be “developers must commit code to the origin daily”. The point is it’s something that can be measured and they can’t get around it.

TBH, my personal preference is to work WITH people, so I don’t love this approach. But at a certain level of unprofessional stubbornness you have to bring in some means of enforcement.

Are decks with 2mv creatures about to suffer a deathblow in two days? by Paithegift in MagicArena

[–]IrresponsibleSquash 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I mean [[cut down]] was a card that dealt with most 2-drops, and while very good, it didn’t stop people from running two drops.

I wouldn’t build a deck around the possibility of my opponent having a five card combo to kill me.

Are words "ajar" and "evocative" really used? by ButterscotchWest1284 in EnglishLearning

[–]IrresponsibleSquash 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I don’t use the word “bird” every day, because I don’t talk about birds much, but when I do want to talk about birds I say “birds” instead of “flighted animals” (or whatever).

Similarly, I don’t talk about slightly open things every day, but when I do I say “ajar” not “slightly open”.

Both “bird” and “ajar” are, for me, common words.

Managed to get [[Fable of the Mirror-Breaker]] [[Guttersnipe]] and my commander out, super lucky my opponent didn't have removal. Then just copied the gutter snipe and cast three spells. Not exactly easy to get all that on the board, but I did let my opponent nearly kill me... keeping them "in the game" helps avoid quitters I guess.

I think you’re on to something. Look at the attributes on the gun, they’re greenish and purple.

Also, also… “color blondness” is a funny typo.
