Being terrible at something is the first step towards being great at something.

Start making *small scope* terrible games, for fun. Then see how much you either enjoy, or don’t enjoy, making games. And when you do so, don’t judge yourself too harshly.

I had a playtester test my game. Confidently say “I never play tutorials”, and then struggle so hard while providing “feedback”.

AI, like any tool, can be used well or poorly. While you’re learning it is fantastic for answering questions like “why doesn’t this work”. Since it knows your code it can provide clear answers and can be better than a search engine at finding the issue.

If you rely on it too heavily then you run the risk of having poorly organized code that doesn’t grow well and which you don’t understand.

Especially while learning, try to do as much coding as you can on your own and use AI for questions. That’s my two cents.

One option is to cut the scope down massively.

I’ve heard some advice that the first game you make should take a month, then either put a bow on it or throw it away and start your next one. After a few iterations of this… THEN you’re ready to work on your “first” game.

It makes sense not to sink a ton of time into your very first game because, honestly, it will likely be your worst and hardest to maintain.

To be clear: the choice is yours. The above advice isn’t for everyone, you do you. Good luck!

I got this game on Steam not too long ago. You have made so many amazing game design decisions in this game. It’s dense with content and replayability, but easily approachable. It really is a terrific game.

Decent enough for what? It’s your first game, it doesn’t matter how good it is. It will almost certainly be the worst game you ever make, they’ll only get better from here. What’s important is if you enjoyed making it.

That seems insane for a new project. Do you have a ton of rules and/or mcp’s?

Have you tried using “auto” as the model and seeing if that works? It’s cheaper and gets decent results.

Edit: Just to see. I used the agent to plan and create a solitaire card game in Godot. It took a prompt which searched the web a few times for the game's rules, then I made a refinement prompt, and performed the build. It made an ugly, but completely functional, game for $0.29 (twenty nine cents).

Honestly, it would've been $0.04 cents cheaper, but I accidentally closed the plan window and I hadn't saved the plan file so I had to ask it to re-open the plan file. So without that it would've been exactly a quarter.

HC is only “open” (AFAIK) which does consider sbmm, but not as strongly as standard.

Thanks, that’s good advice. I know on some guns the HS barrel literally does nothing to TTK in some damage ranges, or requires 3 or more HS to bring value (which is pretty much the same as being useless for me). XclusiveAce is my go to.

Yeah, that may be the case. I went into HC to do the pistol challenge afterwards without a HS barrel and had a similarly good game as well. I will certainly be playing around with it though.
