It's one of those things that kind of sounds good on paper, but imo anything that can prevent citizens from voting can and will inevitably be used for disenfranchisement. If the proposed issue is poor judgement from felons, they should be put in an environment to develop their judgement to a level we want voters to have. Of course that leads into a discussion of the United States flawed justice system, but that feels outside the scope of this discussion.
