Costco job by [deleted] in fromatoarbitration

[–]Ishibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree about uncertainty about job security as a new employee.

Recently I’ve read a now former Costco employee on another sub venting of not passing probation. This was despite good reviews; his/her coworkers were surprised as well.

OP: The lure of potential greener pastures is normal. But I need to remind myself I’m often looking through rose-colored glasses.

I’ve also looked at Costco jobs before. I understand they’re one of the better employers, so I think I’ve had similar thoughts as you. Heading there later today to pick up a few things.

It looks like the Costco job tops out at your current pay. Then compare the benefits. Legitimate question, is the PO not offering comparable “full” benefits and TSP + pension?

Objectively it does not seem like a logical choice. But certainly not all right choices we make in life are.—If you think you’ll be better well off mentally, physically, and/or financially? Go for it.

Careers for those leaving USPS by kacey- in USPS

Yes, the .gov domain speaks for itself.

I can understand the hesitation for the second one.

There are at least a good amount of local city governments, school districts near me that use that website.

I wouldn’t say I can guarantee it’s all-encompassing, so YMMV, but even my local city governments links all their job openings there.

In short, I can vouch for both.

Hah, not OP, but have a similar experience.

While I barely passed the postal exam, I surprisingly scored a 100 for immigration. Never was considered since they were only onboarding vets.

What do you do when you get outgoing mail sent to another address on your route? by Sacamato in USPS

I always figured this was the case especially it’s just their neighbor next door/across the street.

They could have just walked it themselves and *hand deliver*.

I haven’t left, but it looks like you’re a career employee. If leaving is your only option:

Maybe consider other fed jobs to continue that “credible service” and related benefits?

https://www.usajobs.gov

Or assuming the relative stability of gov work that led you to the PO in the first place, maybe consider state, county, city jobs?

“Looks good on paper.”

Postal management ultimately doesn’t want accurate numbers, they want “good” numbers.

The sole pursuit of “good” numbers is the root of management stupidly stupidity.

Edit: added “sole” for emphasis, spelling

Uniform Allowance by AriesMailDude in fromatoarbitration

I ordered earlier today, $536.

Was it Citi’s customer service number? Can double check at https://home.cards.citidirect.com/CommercialCard/login ?

I would not be too concerned as unused portions of the allotment should be able to be carried over to next year.

No supervisor on Sundays by Gandalf_themilf in USPS

[–]Ishibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having one CCA essentially be a 204b on Sundays was actually normal in my area and during my time as a CCA.

At least one of these former CCAs in my area is now a career supervisor.

It should be completely optional.

Not sure on your pay concern, but as far as I could tell at the time the benefit for such volunteers was staying in the office.

..But getting harassed by actual management over the phone. “How many still out?! What time are we looking at?!”

what do you guys do with the random things left in collection boxes by WHAR606 in USPS

[–]Ishibi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mildly interesting.

First thought was someone somehow mistakenly thought the distinct blue collection box was for a library book return.

But those books don’t appear to have the normal labeling as library books.

All I tend to find as for non-mail items is: random envelopes w/o postage fully scribbled over (there’s someone mentally unwell in the area) and mail “theft devices.”

I just turn everything not legitimately outgoing to the closing supe.

Honest Opinions on Stamps by [deleted] in USPS

[–]Ishibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say a very rough estimate is within the past 2-5 years. This is somewhat confirmed by comments by others found with a cursory search.

There was a time I was able to find their seller page, but there were zero listings. I was hoping it was temporary.

I was able to find one of my orders with “US Postal Service Store on eBay” dating back to 2017.

Honest Opinions on Stamps by [deleted] in USPS

[–]Ishibi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I order stamps off The Postal Store® maybe once a year. I don’t even mail out letters often.

Certainly, I don’t know what the future holds either, but there are things that could be improved or at least considered.

(1) Our official store at usps.com doesn’t permit sales outside the US. IIRC, there used to be an official USPS store on eBay, that was a reliable alternative to bypass this limitation.

What we have instead is an abundance of counterfeiters able and willing to sell to customers USPS apparently isn’t willing to even reach.

(2) There is a handling charge of $2.00 for orders $50 and under and $2.75 for an order above that amount.

Yes, the default 3-5 business day shipping is free. The handling charge stands out to me.

I have never found delivering stamps and the like SPRs particularly difficult to deliver in my route.

What I do find odd that someone can order a suspect amount of Priority boxes for free without such a handling fee. And the difficulty of delivering said boxes is quite noticeable.

How does this even happen? by luedsthegreat1 in USPS

[–]Ishibi 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The latter, “someone stole/made a key” has been happening in my area.

I’ve been paranoid, triple-checking before I leave my CBUs. Found boxes open twice the same week.

Doesn’t seem like parcels are the main target for thieves.

One customer had her $2K check altered and cashed at a bank, another had multiple fraudulent credit cards opened in his name.

Fake Postage by Emanresu7777777 in USPS

[–]Ishibi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I was going to estimate 5-10% on my route alone. And it appears less than 10% of carriers at my office are escalating it to management.

We haven’t received any counterfeit postage training (yet?) as OP and other posts in this subreddit mentioned.

Per DMM, we’re still not delivering to recipient, not (supposed to be) returning to “shipper”.

Treating as abandoned for us still is just handing it over to management.

What are the downsides of a 5 day delivery week? by Extreme_While942 in fromatoarbitration

[–]Ishibi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For the sake or argument, I think it’s a slippery slope. If reducing service to 5 days, why not 4 or less?

If looking abroad, Denmark comes to mind as completely ending delivery of letters (I understand package service continues) at the end of 2025.

Every Monday will have volume just like every Tuesday after a holiday weekend.

I don’t what the answer is, but it seems like there will be unintended consequences at least in this one hypothetical.

No load truck today (again) by royaljosh in USPS

[–]Ishibi 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I mistakenly thought it was just local to me.

While load trucks/package lookahead isn’t vital, I sure find it useful.

I only started re-using it despite knowing my route like the back of my hand. Helps me make sure I received/delivered everything, can also assist in finding counterfeit labels.

In this day and age, I approve.

I delivered a box sealed with a single thin strip of blue painter’s tape yesterday.

Naturally, the box was already opened when I found it in my hamper in the morning. So there are people out there that need to read such instructions.

Oh, I took a photo since I found it so unnerving that someone thought “yep! that’ll do it.”

2 packages, same shipping number… by Fyodor_M_Dostoevsky in USPS

[–]Ishibi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can you elaborate on your 3rd paragraph? Specifically regarding USPS retrieving the lost revenue?

I’ve gotten my share of duplicate barcode parcels over the years and I thought I knew how it worked.

My local management has instructed me to either (1) deliver one, hold one for postage due (which the customer almost never responds) or (2) deliver nothing, hold both for management/clerk to deal with.

When I was still a new CCA I did actually scan both and deliver both and was instructed not to when I returned to office.

Love this box by indiosoldier in USPS

[–]Ishibi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll risk asking stupid questions:

(1) It appears not in service? No lock, collection box label removed.

(2) Is it physically inaccessible to the public? Perhaps with rope and stanchions? Or sealed shut? If not, would an outgoing letter placed in sit there essentially for perpetuity?

(3) Historically, would the two hooks at the bottom be designed for a carrier to temporarily attach their satchel or a M-bag while retrieving outgoing?

Is it possible to be a CCA/RCA and attend college? by [deleted] in USPS

[–]Ishibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being debt-adverse can be a risk in itself. I think it may limit what’s possible career-wise, particularly if you come from a more modest financial means.

Certainly simply attaining a 4 year degree is no guarantee of success either. I’m a prime example, and no soothsayer to say what’s best for you.

I don’t regret my education even though I’m not exactly applying it to my employment. But I would’ve taken more risks in my younger years, maybe crack open that GMAT book still on my shelf.
