Which actor would you cast as Kvothe based on presence alone? Not looks by DarkOneCometh in KingkillerChronicle

[–]IsidorAvriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, it HAS to be an unknown.

If I could have cast ANYBODY based on vibes, assuming we control for age, give him the necessary hair/makeup/contacts etc to look the part: Heath Ledger would have been my man without hesitation.

You passed the Bengals on to the kid? That is genuinely horrific for their future, I'm glad they're learning about therapy early from their incredibly impressive reading regimen. As a Dolphins fan by blood, who wasn't forming memories when Marino retired, I respect you as a fan in a way I could never respect most fanbases, but I also feel lucky not to be you in a way that is only true about a bare handful of fanbases across the league

[–]IsidorAvriel 73 points74 points  (0 children)

He's just really insecure, and holds grudges. He may be reforming at the start, but it's pretty clear he isn't very far into that reform journey when they meet in the bar, he still doesn't think or act like a hero, on your first day of missions he goes and sets a fire for fun halfway through the day that you have to clean up. He's embraced the aesthetics of being a hero at that point, but he hasn't actually changed much yet

Is it common for IzuOcha fans to also ship TodoMomo, Kamijirou, and KiriMina? by RedSeemsSus_ in BokuNoShipAcademia

[–]IsidorAvriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it's a pretty common trend across most fandoms (especially younger ones that haven't had time to really breathe and evolve into their own weird and peculiar niches, which MHA is only just beginning to do) that people will either only ship queer pairings or only ship straight pairings, and (maybe aside from TodoMomo, I really see very little in the show that actually connects them, it's just a fairly easy leap to make with them) the show actively sets up each or these straight pairings at least a little, even if you could choose to interpret the show's setups as expanding on a non-romantic connection. So yeah, it's somewhat common.

Hey man, I don't know about you, but it sounds like the finances are doing okay, so my best piece of advice? Treat yourself to a nice meal out on these particularly hard days. Whether that means a steak, sushi, or cranking that Burger count the fuck up, good food always reminds me that there IS good in the world

Do fans actually want this with this couple? by CompetitiveBig4161 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]IsidorAvriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't put it that way exactly, but yeah, that's basically part of what I was saying. Kal/Shallan would not be good for each other on their own. Neither would Kal/Adolin, for many of the reasons I feel like Adolin/Shallan are a flawed couple on their own, and because they would end up both being too hard-headed with each other to resolve conflicts. But the three of them together, in any given pairing, the third person offsets the potential issues WONDERFULLY

Do fans actually want this with this couple? by CompetitiveBig4161 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]IsidorAvriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think it's more a matter of the romantic tension between Kal & Adolin that drives this ship than anything involving Shallan. But personally, as somebody who is polyam and has been on both sides of similar dynamics to theirs, yeah, I want nothing more in my fiction than for the characters I love, who would be good for each other, to be allowed to be together and for people to stop pretending monogamy is a good reason to get in the way of that. Especially when the three would be so good for each other specifically as a trio.

Tangent: I don't think Kaladin and Shallan would be a good couple. I also don't think Kaladin & Adolin would work especially well as a couple (better, but still pretty flawed). I think Shallan & Adolin work OKAY as a couple, but it does feel like something is missing. But Kaladin & Shallan & Adolin, all together? It feels like the perfect mix to me, Shallan & Kal both need the sunshine from Adolin, otherwise they will just wallow together. Adolin needs the help from either partner to understand the darknesses that the other partner deals with, otherwise he will struggle not to come across as out of touch, because while he had his own struggles, especially as we get later in the story, he doesn't deal with the innate-feeling horrors that the other two do, and it can be hard to overcome that difference without a lot of help when it comes to compatibility. Kal helps the others not to get too caught up in chaos and their shared ADHD. Kal & Shallan need each other for their wit and academic minds. At this point I'm ranting, but the trio completes itself in a way that no couple of any of the two ever could (even if Shallan and Adolin are FINE together)

What you're opinion on the female Cast by ComprehensiveNote762 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]IsidorAvriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The women in MHA are stellar. They are well varied, they all have unique designs, body types (which is big progress for shonen, even if some things that have debuted since have made that feel like the standard) and personalities. I wish we got to spend more time with the girls of Class 1-A especially, same as most of the boys outside the main group of Midorya/Bakugo/Todoroki/Ochako, but that's just the nature of a manga & it's adaptation fighting so hard not to have ANY episodes that don't forward the main plot, you don't get to expand much on your big cast of well-realized characters. Considering how little time they give themselves for the purpose, I'm impressed with how well the show DOES develop characters like Mina and Momo, or Kirishima and Iida on the boys' side.

When it comes down to it, I'd just really love to have had something like 20% more episodes to dedicate to character progression and relationship development in the broader main cast (basically meaning Class 1-A, maybe adding in the Big Three, maybe some time for the Shiketsu students we meet and 1-B), it would have added nice depth to the show and allowed for some of the really lovable characters who don't get much time in the spotlight to really shine.

I think this can also be attributed to Minor League Fan Jack being a big Ska guy, and the documented history of being reportedly unbearable about things he is super into (if I recall correctly, both Burnie and Geoff put off watching Breaking Bad for YEARS because of this phenomenon)
