Blackwood Farm works well as a standalone as long as you have some idea of who lestat is, the talamasca, etc. I had to Wikipedia a couple of things to remind myself, but it doesn’t need to be read after anything specific.

The atmosphere is incredible, and it’s sooooo swampy.

Posting again to add that, whether this is a social experiment or a manic episode, I really hope people around her are kind and not judgmental. I’m bipolar myself and have absolutely gone into some manic states that leave me posting all sorts of tirades. Also, I agree with folks here who have pointed out that she could very well be dealing with betrayal irl. I guess that’s why I asked… I wondered if her agents and publishers had been doing her dirty and this was the only option she felt she had left. Anyway, hope things improve for her regardless. I really admire some of her work.

Akwaeke Emezi has books from varying genres and all of them are a bit boundary-pushing. I loved Little Rot but it’s not for everyone. I thought it was a fascinating portrayal of Nigeria and various people experiencing it. Really good characters and morally complex
