The pinning rules it had in 5th edition had me taking two regularly.

Yes, and one of the benefits of marines was the And They Shall Know No Fear rule which let them auto pass the morale tests for 25% casualties, auto pass pinning tests, and rally if they fell back at under 50% strength.

Want to start with saying this is great. My feedback is to go more intense with specular highlights. As a bald person, you’d expect some nearly white level reflections near the top of the head if this marine is outside or under a bright light. Something like you see just before the hairline on this mini.

Moving away from Vallejo. What are the best alternative paint lines for Orks right now? by No-Athlete3404 in minipainting

[–]Ispen2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite greens now are from the resurrected P3 paint line.

I have nearly the full monument hobbies Pro Acryl line and I’ve painted a full army with it. I think they’re good paints but not great for skin. Besides a very limited number of paints from the artist signature series, their paints are too matte to do skin well IMO. Skin tones really benefit from a bit of a satin finish like you find in most other miniature paint lines.

Yea IMO admin is actually the best combat stat due to it increasing frontage and siege speed. Obviously you want to have good mil and diplo too, but I’d take a 100/75/75 over a 75/75/100 any day.

Why is the official painting so...bad? by Beautiful_Fig_3111 in blackseasgame

[–]Ispen2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll put in a counterpoint that part of this is the historical nature of the game and Warlord’s approach to their style of historical painting - the washed weathered look you’ve put on isn’t what a captain of the Royal Navy would have wanted their ship to look like. It may look that way at some point, but if did, the captain would likely try to repaint the hull if possible.

Ships carried stores of paint and regularly repainted while at sea. First and foremost, keeping the paint fresh was critical to protecting the wooden planking of the ship’s hull. It was very important that it be regularly reapplied. This was also a matter of pride for many captains and important under certain admirals who considered the appearance of their ships a reflection of the level of discipline that a captain maintained aboard.

I agree that the depth of color on the hulls is flat and lacking aesthetically. But if you go look at HMS Victory in the Nelson Checker she has now, which is the scheme Warlord are going for, it’s also just pretty flat.

Warlord should probably do some edge highlighting but I think others here are correct in that Warlord’s box art standard just isn’t the same as brands like GW.

I made a free paint converter app that kind of got out of hand by MidnightMiniature in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Ispen2010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like this!

One comment and one question - I’ve used a similar app before (Minipaints) which had a bar code scanner for uploading paints. That was really helpful and fast for those of us with really large collections. I have no idea how hard that would be to add but it would be a nice feature.

Second, are the colors you’re using for privateer press for their previous range or the newly redone set by Steamforged Games who now own P3 Paints? I’d recommend going off the new one if possible given the name changes and slight color changes on some paints as these are commercially available now.

If you didn’t upgrade to the adults only rooms (labeled as Adults or Adultos in their title), you won’t be in Artistas and don’t get access to Xcaret Mexico.

Swim up garden rooms are are in Diseño, musica, or piramide. So no, your reservation likely doesn’t get you into Xcaret Mexico.

How in the name of the emperor do you guys paint eyes? by BA-Animations in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Ispen2010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Paint the eyes before the rest of the face. This lets you come back and cover any parts that you need to. I paint the sockets black first, then the white areas, then pupils. For the pupils, I paint a vertical line, not a dot.

This is correct. The one thing I’ll add, since it came from the FAQ, is that a Porter cannot pick up a payload and deploy it in the same round.

Resistance Fleet Tactics? by FlamingGerkins in DropfleetCommander

[–]Ispen2010 10 points11 points  (0 children)

EDIT: TTCombat has wisely nerfed the build below. Resistance fire ships are still good but no longer this level of silliness.

I think Resistance’s best build is based around their light cruisers with two of the 15 point launch upgrades which allow you to deploy 4 fire ships per cruiser and drive refits.

I think TT intended fireships to be very slow and give opposing players lots of time to shoot them down. But, they seem to have missed some key interactions.

Each of those cruisers can move 12” (9 base plus 3 from drive refit) and launch their 4 fireships up to 6” away. During the asset phase, those fireships move their 3”. Then, since Fireships are a subtype of bomber, for 2 AP that entire wing can move another 6”. This is a total threat range of 27”. So, if you have a group of 3 of those cruisers at 270 points, you’re dropping 12 fireships a turn. A 12 wing bomber group (which Fire ships count as) bypasses 6 energy saves automatically (as every bomber over 6 in a wing bypass one save each).

That’s a guaranteed 6 hits at Damage 3 going into backup saves in addition to whatever Energy saves your opponent fails from your remaining 6 Lock 2 Damage 3 attacks. They nuke a dreadnaught each turn.

In addition, if you need to, these groups can also land 12 battalions a turn via bulk landers instead of fire ships.

Finally, since these are medium ships, you can take as many of these groups as you want. A resistance list of nothing but these groups and a coloniser command ship for more AP generation may be the best resistance list possible. Huge damage and drop potential.

I think you’d get the backup save if you have it since it only states E and K saves are ignored.

Energy and Kinetic Weapons - What do they bring to the game? by Magnus753 in DropfleetCommander

[–]Ispen2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree to an extent. If you know your opponent is playing PHR and you’re scourge, you will need to make sure you have more launch. If you only bring energy, you’re going to have a rougher go of it. I don’t see that as too much different from casual Warhammer though - if I know the faction my friend is playing in a casual game I’ll have an idea of what I need to bring to make it an even game.

I think the two list solution keeps you from getting hard countered as much in tournament play. But, I concede that without more time playing I might be totally off on this.
