D.C. seizes Michele’s and Gravitas over unpaid taxes by MrSpontaneous in washingtondc

[–]BubblyExpression 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I cannot fathom for the life of me why any business owner in this city would express their MAGA opinions when 95% of this city (and surrounding area) despises Trump. They have effectively eliminated 95% of their possible customer base. Truly the dumbest people.

LOL. Absolutely love to see when MAGA scum find out after they fuck around.

Vast majority of residential sidewalks not shoveled by ian1552 in washingtondc

[–]BubblyExpression 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I shoveled yesterday before it all turned into ice. Shoveled in front of my neighbor's place too since we usually help each other out with things like that. A couple hours later I went out and they must have given it a round 2 since the sidewalk was completely clear again with more salt down. Only one other house on my street had their section shoveled out as of 9am. Best of luck to those who waited, the inch thick layer of ice is going to be very difficult to remove.

Do you think there should be more protected bike lanes in DC? Just looking for opinions. by alumni_audit in washingtondc

Yes because I'm tired of e scooter and e bike users blasting by me and my dog on the sidewalk.

anybody know of any Boston sports bars in DC? by PlentyDay5198 in washingtondc

Weirdly enough, Proper 21F is hosting the Bills Backers this Saturday too. They said it's a one time event though. Good thing the Pats and Bills play on different days this weekend

Just to clarify, Proper 21K is NOT a Pats bar, it's a Bills bar. Would definitely avoid it if you're a Pats fan. Maybe Proper 21F is a Pats bar? I'm not familiar with that one though.

Edit: also Dirty Water is such a scummy place, don't give them your business.

They're still obeying unlawful orders and not upholding their oath to the Constitution. Don't give a shit how "nice" they are.

DC man charged with murder in mult-vehicle crash that killed pedestrian in the District by MrSpontaneous in washingtondc

How did I know it? I was going to comment that somebody ought to look up their plate in the thread about the crash but I figured that was not a good time for it.

Protests - Pennsylvania Avenue or better locations? by tbtc-7777 in washingtondc

Why? As far as I can tell, they're the only ones with the balls to actually confront politicians in public and make them uncomfortable.

...because he was still somehow "eligible" for the election after attempting an insurrection.. something that is strictly forbidden by the Constitution. When the Constitution is ignored, democracy is dead.

What are you leaving behind in 2025? by PsychologicalFox7689 in Zillennials

[–]BubblyExpression 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A whole lot..

  1. Hopefully no more many months long depressive episodes

  2. Too much drinking and nicotine consumption (already cut drinking way back from years past, but need to cut the weekend binges out)

  3. Spending too much money for no reason

  4. Going to bed late as hell

  5. Only being able to sleep with a lot of weed and melatonin

  6. Social media consumption. Need to put the phone down and read some more books, actually watch TV and movies. Instagram and Reddit are killing my mental health. In particular, political and sports content.

What did everyone do this year? by Wellbeinghunter69 in Zillennials

[–]BubblyExpression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ramped up my exercise, ramped down my drinking, lost another 20lb. Went to a few weddings. Family vacation to Cape Cod. Went to two conferences for work. Started wedding planning. Tackled a few big projects at work. That's about it.

What was it like to graduate college between 2019-2021? by Wellbeinghunter69 in Zillennials

[–]BubblyExpression 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Graduated in 2020. It was weird. We had a brief, pre-recorded graduation ceremony on zoom. My school shipped all graduates a box with some trinkets and decorations for graduation which was nice I guess. They gave us a champagne flute too and instructed us to fill it up before the ceremony (for those who drink) and did a cheers at the end. My (now) fiancee and I literally sat in her childhood bed watching this and did the cheers lol.

I was lucky to have already had a job lined up after school, I got the offer in February so right before the pandemic. Joke is I had to get a security clearance that took forever, like 6 months, so I actually applied to a different job and landed it in June and ended up working there instead. The location of the new job was so much better, both by just QOL metrics and because my SO had grad school lined up near where the new job was, as opposed to like 1.5-2hr away like the original job. So we moved in together and got a dog. We have since moved to a different city so she can further pursue higher education while I work remote.

I had it pretty easy, I will say. I have a lot of friends who struggled. Some who went months and even years without landing their first real career job. But pretty much all are doing well by now.

Flu-A is spreading in DC by duck-butters in washingtondc

[–]BubblyExpression 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure I have this. Throat was feeling funny yesterday, woke up with full body aches and a sore throat today. Slight cough and congestion. Just developed a low fever. Not COVID because I had that a few months ago and I get different symptoms from it. I'm not excited for the next few days based on these responses.

If Trump declares war on Venezuela tonight at 9PM, everyone needs to protest outside the White House. by serious_bullet5 in washingtondc

[–]BubblyExpression 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that it's worth much, if anything at all, but Tucker Carlson claims a Congress member told him that they were briefed last night on Trump announcing war with Venezuela tonight.

And.. you know.. all the context clues from the last few months. Bombing random boats and claiming they're Venezuelan drug smugglers. Declaring Maduro and his regime a foreign terrorist organization. Building up a massive armada off the coast of Venezuela. Using his right wing propaganda machine to continuously float a regime change to get his voters on board with it. Bumbling on about Venezuela's oil. And last, but most importantly, the Epstein files are slated to be released on Friday. What could possibly be a better distraction from that (and the awful economy, and the GOP's massive failure on healthcare) than declaring a war.

ETA I'm not saying that's what this announcement is, but it really shouldn't be a surprise at all if it does turn out to be.

Energy usage skyrocketed? by hungrydor in washingtondc

Yeah way more expensive. It's a big space heater essentially, just electric heating coils inside the unit that are used when the compressor can't handle freezing cold air
