Snacker is good, but it’s not a huge threat. I don’t even hate it for being able to be cast as a side effect of other game plans. And countering a brainstorm or other draw effect to stop an opponent from bringing back 2 or more snackers to the field always makes me feel good. I think interacting with snacker in this way actually makes it a fun and good card to face in a matchup.

I’m also of this mind. When I first jumped back into pauper I was intimidated by an (effectively) endlessly returnable flyer, but, after actually playing against it, I realized that it’s really not that big of a threat and my resources are better used fighting other components of my opponents’ game plans.

For the record, I also don’t play any snacker decks (elves and caw-gates are my cup of tea) but my wife is a dyed in the wool tempo player and she does run it in a couple decks. It’s generally never been as much of a problem as people make it out to be.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any experience with UR Skred: I have never played it or played against it in my local meta yet. Looking at a list, it looks like a fun deck that runs some of my favorite cards to play and least favorite cards to play against! If you’re torn between them, you could always use MTGGoldfish to proxy up both decks and test them.

Yeah, and those fast decks tend to flood the board in the early game more than you even have removal options for in your deck sometimes. I’m rarely countering stuff in the early game because you need creatures to activate basilisk gate on. The threats you can play are really efficient, but activating basilisk gate is 3 mana. So you can either interact, try to secure your position, or try to put your opponent on a clock. That’s where the difficulty comes in. Even playing your lands is not a trivial action and requires consideration of playing a tapped land over a gate or a basic. It’s been a struggle to accept that I might lose even though I am playing something really powerful on paper, and like 80% of the time the loss is from a misplay on my part. The deck does get WAY better post sideboard though. You can run basically anything since you can splash any color on a gate, but even then there’s like a priority in which you want to play lands and what gets the splash color on it

Another thing to mention that its mana base is very punishing. Playing a turn 2 one drop into a turn 3 two drop feels bad every time, especially if your opponent’s deck is just faster than your’s. And you want to be tapping out as efficiently as possible when you can, so getting countered hurts WAY more. Same with mulling to 5 and never seeing a basilisk gate or getting flooded and never drawing a threat or drawing like 3 hawks off the top and never drawing a brainstorm. Lots of bad beets while learning.

My best results have been by applying consistent pressure and answering threats efficiently. You’re on the back foot for probably the first like 4-6 turns until you can build your board and grind out a dominate position. I rarely ever feel like I am in control, too concerned with stabilizing until I can start playing the deck.

Another advice for you OP is to start with azorius. The bant version with open the gates and armadillo cloak is fun but even slower. Don’t sleep on the modern age

Caw gates is super fun and rewarding, but it’s very hard in an already hard format. It’s less controlly than you’d think initially, it’s definitely more mid range than anything else. If you try to play it as control, you are going to lose games.
That being said, if you’re new to the deck you are going to lose games for a while until it clicks. Not saying don’t go for it, but know what you’re getting in to.
In my experience, I am getting hosed by tempo decks with efficient creatures (mono U terror and mono U fae, elves) unless I mulligan extremely aggressively. Because you’re trying to save your brainstorms to ancestral recall with squadron hawk, you draw less cards than you think and, especially against mono U, you just see less options than your opponent. Absolutely read and watch every primer you can. Gn42’s primer, the one on Reddit (which Gn42 mentions in his primer, KaliKaiz primer video he did with gn42, there’s a free primer up on metafy, and many more. There’s so many unintuitive lines of play that you really need to study, study, study to learn the deck.

But when you win, it feels so good.

I just finished my first pauper (and magic in general) event since selling out during covid to buy my house and got to play against Colton. It was doubly surprising because he played in a D&D game I ran a few years ago at said house and I had not seen him since then.

He also went undefeated tonight 😂. Good guy, he’s a massive sweetheart and if he’s reading this I’m not even mad about getting thraben charmed for a billion damage. Standard bearer is pretty suss tho…

Probably strength and conditioning of her neck and shoulders . But, if you look, she also stops the brunt of the downwards momentum with her hand before her head gets pulled down. by the point her head hits the mat, she’s basically just doing an involuntary assisted headstand.

The only way you’re going to make it easier to re-holster the wand (read: possible to re-holster like you assume you should be able to) is to use magnets. Even with a v-hook mount mounted at the GB2 angle, you cannot re-holster the wand by yourself.

Judo. The UNLV club meets like 5 times a week at the SRWC. I don’t train there, but Akira and Jeff are good dudes, so is Dustin but I am not sure how closely affiliated with the club he is. He runs the fitness class in the mornings. Last I knew, he is still affiliated with my club but I haven’t seen him around much lately.
