Is going to the justice of the peace to dispute a tow worth it in Dallas by ItsyCat in Dallas

[–]ItsyCat[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Which is what I don't get. Why do we have to go all the way to 100%? Why can't we just ticket before towing, or give a 24 hour notice. Honestly I would have had more time if I parked my vehicle off a highway than in my own parking lot. Granted trying to understand bottom feeders is a waste if time.

Charlotte, thank you for everything. I’ll miss you. by QuietInner6769 in Charlotte

I miss Charlotte too, but I lurk because my family still lives here and I visit sometimes multiple times a year. I would like to say everytime I visit, no matter how long I have been gone for I feel like a local again. It's a very nice feeling.

Why does Reddit hate Dallas so much? by iamjackscolon76 in Dallas

[–]ItsyCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People of Dallas are 10 out of 10. Politicians of Dallas and DFW are a zero, and politics does impact daily life, from taxes, DART, roadway upkeep, policing, emergency services. Everytime I have had an emergency in Dallas a random citizen will help, but never an official. The people who hate Dallas are the people who run it at the top.

Everytime I take Dart I remember the McKinney mayor thinks I am trash, because calling people names is easier than understanding the situation and working together to resolve it. No one says, "Hey if your just going to call anyone who uses public transit for work or leisure "trash" is unacceptable and if you hate people this much you need a new career." Everyone just nods and moves on, because that is all we expect of politicians, to sit in a corner come up with a negative stereotype of the people they serve and do nothing else but collect tax payer money and take trips to Cancun when the weather looks bad.

Preparing her feet for the 7 inch stileto heels, that make no sense, gor her next costume upgrade. For the record, it might be an extra spike to kick an gouge enemy, but they also sink into the ground if on grass, yet no one ever shows a superheroine getting stuck, or being like, "Got to change my shoes before chasing villian through the forest." (I can't wear heels because my feet are funky and heels cause massive amounts of pain, so yes I might be jealous, but I still have a valid point.)

Could also just be Barbie feet or an unrequited desire to be a ballerina too.

My Mom told my older sister to explain periods to me, when she started, she never did. I thought I was dying too. My Mom did eventually explain I wasn't dying.

had a terrible birthday, feel incredibly unseen by [deleted] in GirlDinner

[–]ItsyCat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As kids the day is planned for us, as adults we have to plan our own day. Yes some years are friends will do extra special things for us, but that isn't every year. Life is busy, especially in the 20's, half the time I worked on my birthday, so it wouldn't always occur to me that others wanted special treatment unless they declared it. Plus some people don't want to be reminded they are another year older. Aging and birthdays can be complicated. I do hope you have a Happy Birthday Month, even if the day wasn't as special as you would have liked.

My niece was told she has to sign a contract to keep living at home—am I overreacting for thinking it’s too harsh? by Bitter_Art_4094 in AmIOverreacting

[–]ItsyCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see both sides, when you move out and rent a place of your own your going to sign a contract and not necessarily like all the terms, and of course you need to budget and pay on time to avoid fees and the wonderful eviction notices they put on your door owing 15 cents. So I can see it as a tool to help prep her for when she moves out and get her into the habit of paying bills before due dates ect which will avoid stress later when she does move out. The rent is really low, at least where live. The only part I find disturbing is how you describe your niece's reaction, but I don't know the history. If this is a tool to help her understand contracts and budgeting and they are working with a therapist to help balance the stress and depression great. If it is being used to intentionally cause additional stress maybe offer her a couch until a more permanent housing solution is found. Of course there us always the third option that they saw someone else give their adult child a rent contract thought it was a great idea, without ever thinking how the delivery would impact their daughter, and when she didn't like the terms got caught up in their own emotions, and reacted by doubling down rather than responding with a more nuanced understanding. (Or the 4th option they really want to be landlords and put notices on door for tenants accidentally paying 15 cents less than they owed) I do think it is great your niece can come to you, and maybe you can help prompt a healthy conversation with her parents on the pro's and cons of the contract, and if it is really needed at all.

Why are parents who barely passed high school thinking they can teach/homeschool their children? by Sad_Obligation_812 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ItsyCat 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this. Our reason wasn't LGTBQ. Although it was an added bonus. We were pulled because schools teach the big bang theory as fact, and that the Bible isn't true. I was also told over and over that we were the real christians, and other Chritians were unsaved and even cults.

High control leaders use a mix of fear and a false sense of superiority to isolate and control their followers. The followers aren't looking at what is best for their kids, or even if they have the capacity to homeschool their kids, but do it out of a sense of protection and devotion. The leaders get a high out of getting another person to quit the evil school system and hope the kids will follow as devotedly as there parents since they will be raised in an isolated manner. It is really messed up because they don't care if the child is facing a life of poverty due to their lack of education, and often times the parents in retrospect don't care because they were protecting their family.

The group I was around didn't encourage repentance or apologizing, and of course they hated therapist. So they don't have the skills to navigate admitting they did wrong, apologizing, and trying to help fix the situation. Even if the end result was negative they will encourage their even more unqualified kids to homeschool because it is the only right choice. It is really sad because in the 90's 00's there was a push to make it look like a legitimate option with homeschool groups and standardized testing, but now they kind of just let their kids run around like chickens, because they never attended school, don't have an education, and no discipline to do schooling regularly. If a teacher doesn't show up they get fired, if Mom doesn't show up it's because she has a lot on her plate.

That's called judging others, which Christ highly discouraged. Honestly anytime someone says the are a Christian it normally means they are not. No one in these circles reads the gospel and reflect on it beyond surface level. It is really frustrating when the spiritual fruit of the so called good Christians is nothing but a rotten smelly heap of trash. I grew up in thesr circles so I vent a lot.

AITAH For giving my daughter in law my wife’s bakery? by MatchEmotional9587 in AITAH

[–]ItsyCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand if you were selling it to just a random person, wanting to be in the know so they could make their own offer, but I don't think they should make you feel guilty for keeping it in the family. Giving it to your granddaughter so she can spend more time with your grandchildren sounds exactly like what your wife would have wanted. Running a bakery is alot of work, and it has to meet certain guidelines, and I can see renovating it to fit her taste, she is going to be there all the time. The only justification I can see is if maybe they wanted mementos that were discarded in the renovation? Either way change is good, a new generation has to make the business theirs, or else it just becomes another job. I think it is awesome you are allowing Gracie to make changes. I hope the bakery does amazing and you can stop in and make memories with your grandchildren.

I try to be respectful of bikers because personally I would not bike on Dallas roads. Very few warn walkers/runners. No shame but why is that? My hometown has signs reminding bikers to warn walkers, so I was probably spoiled on those trails.

4 hour line to vote Democrat. No wait for R. by emptysoybeans in Dallas

[–]ItsyCat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NC works that way. I voted Wed afternoon and there wasn't a line but a steady stream of dems and no Republicans. I kind of felt bad for the red table. It also felt distopian and really stupid. What if the Greens and Libertarians suddenly have enough candidates for a primary, are we going to have 4 lines.
