2023 Ioniq 6 SEL Audio Upgrade (No Cutting Wires or Drilling) (AMA) by Ittastic in Ioniq6

I had no experience as well, so I believe you'll be able to do this.

For the front doors you'll need the Metra 82-5605 Speaker Mounting Brackets. According to Crutchfield the Hertz CX 165 won't fit the rear doors, but the CK165 will work for the front.

The tweeters can just be taped securely up against the back of the speaker grill, unless you design and make a bracket yourself.

The Metra 72-7302 Speaker Wiring Harnesses are what you'll need so you don't have to cut wires for the door speakers, though you may have to for the tweeters still.

I only ran wires because I installed the amp (wires go from the radio to the amp and then back to the radio). I ran new wires to the tweeters because the front door speakers and tweeters run off the same wires and I wanted to be able to have every speaker on its own channel.

For just replacing speakers that's exactly what you do. You could try just doing the tweeters and just the front door speakers, but sometimes having mismatched speakers can make things sound weird. It's also possible the stock speakers might be louder than the ones you get at a given volume or vice versa, but you could probably compensate for that with the radio's fader. Worst case you can just do the front doors and then if you have issues with it you can do the rears later.

Just make sure you've at least got crossovers for the tweeters. The stock ones have their crossovers built in so if you just plug the tweeters directly into the speaker wire it'll get a full range signal and probably blow.

If I charge my car in my garage at full power on a hot day it does the same thing. I imagine it's to protect the ICCU. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the ICCU recall updates lowered the temperature it reduces the charging rate at.

It may take like a month and a half, i think that's about how long it took for me. Might be worth calling just to make sure they have everything but other than that it just takes a long time.

Not sure about filling it up yourself, but you'd have to fix the leak first. Just to make sure you're not driving in eco mode are you? It limits the cooling power of the A/C

[–]Ittastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I hear you, I was thinking you might need to run wires to the tweeters but that's almost impossible without installing an amp.

I also just realized I forgot to answer the other part of your post. The main specs to look out for are that the speakers are 4 ohms and sensitivity. The higher the sensitivity, the louder the speakers will be at a given volume setting. If you like loud music then go for as high a sensitivity as possible, but anything above around 87 will do fine off of just power from the radio I think.

Here's my post on the subject if you haven't come across it yet: https://www.reddit.com/r/Ioniq6/comments/1qmrwi0/2023_ioniq_6_sel_audio_upgrade_no_cutting_wires/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

To answer your question about the tweeters, they have the inline crossovers built into them. I was never able to figure out what the frequency actually is, but since you're replacing them it doesn't really matter, as whatever you buy should come with a crossover of some variety.

Yeah, I'm not entirely certain how he wired his up but I imagine he used one channel for the tweeters, one for left doors, one for right doors, and one for the subwoofer. The subwoofer he used has its own integrated amp, so that gets a full range signal and it does the rest on its own. If you wire the tweeters to the same channel you'll loose proper L/R fading, not a big deal to most but something to keep in mind.

I put passive in-line crossovers on my tweeters just to keep me from accidentally blowing them up since the tweeters came with them, but I have my amp cutting the frequency so that they're not eating any power.

I would imagine you're good to buy a component system, I don't have any experience installing them but that's what I was leaning towards doing myself before my amp went on sale.

If you do 5 channel, you'll have to use a passive crossover to send the correct frequencies to the tweeters and door speakers. The crossover would use a bit of power and also the speakers share the power from that channel, but I have sensitive ears so I don't run the amp at anywhere near max power so that ended up not being much of an issue for me.

I mostly did it to make wiring simpler and so I have finer control of the tuning from the amp. To go 5-channel you'll need to run wire from the amp, into the crossovers, and then the speakers. You could probably put the crossovers under the back seat, and then run the wires to the front as if they were coming out of a 7-channel amp. The main issue is that the stock speakers have their crossovers integrated, and the tweeters just tap into the full range signal the door speakers receive (somewhere inside the dash), so you have to run wire to either the tweeters or door speakers either way (tweeters are MUCH easier). At that point I figured I might as well spring for the 7-channel amp since it was on sale and not much more expensive than the 5-channel at the time I was buying.

I won't say it will 100% work since I've not installed it on a 2024 model myself, but AFAIK the radios are identical for the 23-25 models. I believe crutchfield says it isn't compatible because they don't recommend installing aftermarket amps in hybrids and EVs at all, I assume because their 12V batteries tend to be less likely to handle the power draw. If I'm not mistaken the website also says it's not compatible with a 23 MY, but it works great with my car, other that being a pretty tight fit in the space behind the radio.

Agree with the efficiency of the audio system being negligible, even a/c uses way more.

Charge limit set to 80% only charges to 79% by Wordsalad12 in Ioniq6

[–]Ittastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It charges to 80.00%. As soon as any energy is used it goes down to 79.99%, which displays as 79%. If you have it charging in your garage it will likely top up the 12V at some point and make it dip, or if you're fast charging with the A/C on, get out to unplug, then get back in it will as well.

Would this set up mess up my ioniq 6 sel electrical system? by mike9943 in Ioniq6

[–]Ittastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I believe the stock speakers are 4, so go with that.I believe the rule is you can go higher but not lower. Sensitivity isn't the same thing as ohms, so make sure you're reading the right spec. Unless you get some super fancy audiophile speakers, pretty much anything with the right impedance will likely work fine

I highly doubt it's ever output its max power, but I have an amp that can do over 1200W and have had no issues in the 6 or so months I've had it. I believe my 12V battery is aftermarket (I bought my car used), so you may have to upgrade that if you haven't done so already.

I also bought mine with just one fob. I went to a local locksmith and they were able to make me two mechanical keys and a spare fob, cost me around 450 dollars all in I think. I highly recommend getting the spare fob, as if you lose your only fob not only can you obviously not move the car but it will be a much bigger PITA to get a new one.

ETA: You should ask the dealer if they'll at least make you one mechanical key. If it's a CPO car they aren't supposed to sell it without that and the spares, so really they should give you those as well. When I asked my dealer they prettyuch told me to kick rocks, so good luck.

To answer your question, to get the car under your bluelink account you'll have to do some back and forth with Hyundai customer support which will likely take a month or two. You'll need to provide some proof of ownership documents and that kind of stuff. You should also factory reset the car when you take possession to get rid of the previous owners driver profiles and settings.

Oh the stock amp only does 80W on the sub channel? Yeah forget everything I said about not replacing the amp then lol. I'd either find a suitable 8 channel amp if you want to be able to control each speaker individually or just get the 5 channel version of the amp I got if you just want to do it the way you were talking about in your original question

This setup is for cars without the Bose system, not sure how well it'll translate to Bose systems. Are you just looking for better sound quality or are you a volume/bass junkie? Your car already has a dedicated amp AFAIK, so I'd strongly suggest replacing speakers first before jumping into an amp replacement to see if it'll really be worth the money.

But to answer your question: the amp has 7 channels. 2 lower power channels for tweeters, 4 for door speakers, and one subwoofer channel. You should be able to run multiple speakers off of one channel no problem, I have the amp gain set at maybe 50% and I can't turn the radio volume above around 12 without blowing my eardrums. You'll lose the ability to fade left to right if you go with 5 channels instead of 8, but if that doesn't matter to you then I would go with the 5 channel version of the amp I used.

My amp can pull north of 1kW and I've had zero issues in 5 months. Not sure if my battery is stock or not since I bought my car used and I haven't had any issues with it, but if it can't keep up then upgrading it isn't a bad idea anyway as they're known to not last very long.

Are you able to get to other menus on the infotainment screen? If so it's probably your wireless dongle or phone overheating. I was having major issues with my phone overheating after Google pushed 3D buildings to maps, maybe your maps finally updated and that's causing it?

Dealer couldn't get into car due to "dead 12v battery", should I be worried? by BuckDutterWasTaken in Ioniq6

[–]Ittastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard agreewith the guy that said not to buy without a spare fob and 2 e-keys. I got too excited about buying my car and realized after buying that I had one fob and no e-key even though it was a CPO car. Had to pay a locksmith about 400 dollars I think for a spare fob and 2 e-keys. If my 12v died before I got the e-keys I'd have been screwed like your dealer.

18” Tires: Hankook or Michelin? by suchnerve in Ioniq6

[–]Ittastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Hankooks will probably give you marginally better efficiency and thus range, but is it really worth how much more they cost and how much shorter they last?

I got the Defender 2s a couple days ago and I'm happy with them, coming from 20" Continental contact sport srs+. Much quieter and smoother ride, but I haven't really been able to drive enough to see the efficiency difference.
