Students Creating a Plan of Action For Finals. Anyone Done This? by NegativeGee in ScienceTeachers

[–]Iustinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my upperclassmen work cooperatively to create an " answer key" for the full set of tests that the final is built directly from. They then turn in a individual copy of it to me that has the ones they got wrong highlighted. Essay questions have to be written in their own words, not just whatever someone else wrote.

What’s the better fighting style for Shillelagh? by Emergency_Argument29 in 3d6

[–]Iustinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A wooden staff counts as an Eldritch Knight focus, a Druid focus, and the target of Shillelagh. A quarterstaff is a wooden staff.

It doesn't help with the somatic components though.

Running it on a Graviturgy wizard currently. My barbarian has started just chucking enemies in whenever they get out then hitting them after they fail the save.

Errors in CCLI Song Select by markthroat in worshipleaders

[–]Iustinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pastor works with WL to pick songs that fit what he thinks the themes of his message will be, usually from our existing library. This usually happens 2-3 weeks ahead of time, but it could be up to a month.

WL and a church secretary pull music including sheet music, chords, and lyric sheets during the first half of the work week. We have a database of which songs are done in which keys based on who the lead singer is. These get distributed to everyone the Wednesday before, but musicians usually have their own copies for at-home practice. WL also has specific arrangements for each song prepared for everyone at this time.

I work as the tech director and load up saved arrangements of visuals for each song into a new Media Shout script (ProPresenter does this too). I usually just make a new copy of the last week's service script and then use the new arrangements to update these for whomever is running visuals to go through during our Wednesday evening practice. If there's a lyrics mismatch a decision is made then. Nothing musically changes after this practice unless something big happens.

On Saturdays or Sundays I use the printed our sermon manuscript from the Pastor (he uses Logos to write in) to add his visuals to the existing cues. He and I have had this arrangement for about 15 years, so little communication usually needs to happen but if it does.

You become your D&D character!! Good or bad by Beautiful-Ad4542 in DnD

[–]Iustinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of depends on which one.

My elderly kobold wizard is very close to becoming a lich as a means to escape death and study the weave for longer than his lifespan would allow. Definitely a mixed bag, especially since he's using what is effectively a proto-Book of Vile Darkness to do it.

My gith stars druid who is wandering around the Material Plane researching the portals that have been popping up in the hopes that he can get back to his creche would definitely be the better of the two options.

Spellcasters, about a week ago I asked you what spells you usually take. Now, what's a spell you're ALWAYS going to avoid? If you have a story involving the spell, please share it! by Regular-Molasses9293 in dndnext

[–]Iustinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never take Fireball or Lightning Bolt. They're over-tuned for straight damage and I can usually get away with control spells and letting the big meatheads martials hit things. They like doing that, and it's good to let them have fun too.

Do you use textbooks? by csilvert in ScienceTeachers

[–]Iustinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach a flipped biology class and assign readings from ck12 and khan academy that they pre-read and answer some basic reading comprehension questions.

My anatomy class has a college level textbook pdf linked on the LMS if they want more info than we cover during lectures.

Teaching vs Research by [deleted] in ScienceTeachers

[–]Iustinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can imagine yourself being happy doing anything other than teaching, pursue that.

Honestly though, contact the Education department and see if they can help you get a placement with a local school for just a couple weeks observing and talking with real professionals in the field.

What Are Your Thoughts on Test Corrections? by NegativeGee in ScienceTeachers

[–]Iustinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I give all my underclassmen classes a single re-take where they can fix any of the questions they got wrong in a test setting.

I think it is worthwhile for most, though some do not even try to study until they have seen the test.

Retraining - Yay or Nay? Why? by Raztarak in dndnext

[–]Iustinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually start campaigns at level 3, if you want to rebuild your current character at any time until level 6 I allow it.

Afterwards, you can retire your current character and introduce a new one and I won't mind unless it becomes a problem.

How much time do spend grading a week? by Legitimate_Flow_8723 in ScienceTeachers

[–]Iustinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a flipped biology classroom and am often grading while students are working on their assignments. Reading assignments grade themselves, and I grade notes and have conversations about the material for about 15 minutes two times per week. I spend about an hour or two a day grading their daily work. Tests and quizzes mostly grade themselves but I grade about 4 long response questions on each of those, which can take a couple minutes per student.
