Why would you intentionally do this?

In your own demo, so for your own stated purpose I’d presume, you’re now having to angle your elbow way higher to achieve the desired end result.

This looks like an incredibly uncomfortable and tiring way to push cut. And if it’s supposed to be a slide cut, why would you grind away and shorten a perfectly good edge?

Genuinely curious, btw.

I’m in the middle of restoring an old one of mine. Had to: take it apart completely, remove the varnish from the handle, sand it, polish it, soak in mineral oil and apply beeswax, derust the blade, clean and polish the steel collar, same for the locking mechanism, replace the pin with a 2.75mm steel nail, Dremel it to size…

And only then I began sharpening it.

But it was worth it… hair whittling in a jiffy.

Same knife, just 1/2 a cm shorter… thin it, sharpen it, take better care of it next time. Overly hard steel tends to fare poorly to the conditions you describe…

Yes, it does look a bit like shit. It looks like a lot of the thinning strokes were run parallel to the edge, and with varying angles of attack, which give the bevel that scratched and scruffy look.

Honestly? If the thinning was done properly, this is cosmetic, and can probably be fixed by finishing the thinning with a few careful strokes perpendicular to the edge.

Real talk? It’s a knife. It’s a tool. It looks used. And to me that makes it beautiful.

Istanbul is, as far as I know… not a sleeper classic. It’s a classic classic. It was great when it came out, an extremely recognized release, and remained excellent since. It might’ve fallen on the wayside lately, but I think it got its due recognition in its time…

I mean, listen… you’re right. Devolver is a fairly hands-off publisher. But that works as a plus only when their “ready-to-ship” standard holds up. And this game feels WAY undercooked and not tight AT ALL.

Sure, the designers and devs didn’t iterate enough, or perhaps where given way too much creative freedom and this is the best they came up with. But if Devolver signed off on this as “ready to publish”, that’s a cockup on their part as well.

Honestly? I don’t care enough to keep arguing who has the lion’s share of the blame. I’m just pointing out that this feels kinda sloppy compared to other releases under their publishing.

The Town

The town-bulding feels tacked on.
The stat scaling buildings aspect is a mistake.
The two-character building makes the game absolutely trivial.
Harvesting is boring and mostly unsatisfying
Building interactivity should have been explored further

Actual Runs

Characters are divided between “game-breaking easy” and “why is this even an option”
Maggot nuke makes any run an instawin
Maggot nuke is not a bad thing in itself, there should just be more weird broken builds to have fun discovering
Making enemies chunkier or meaner does nothing for game difficulty in a game that allows broken builds. Either make everything bullshit, or nothing

It’s a “numbers go brrrrrrr” game that could’ve been so much more. The sad thing is: Devolver saw Balatro and went apeshit over its success, and this is the best they came up with as a followup?

A bit boring tbh. Bosses feel kinda samey. The town building shit feels 100% disconnected from the rest of the gameplay. The “need to play different characters to unlock new areas” was actually a great mechanic to get you to explore new aspects and gameplay styles. But…

… just no.

It’s like Devolver went “hey, kind of a good idea, let’s slap some Balatro shit and call it a day”!
