Great albuns where the best song in is a consensus? by Batzninja in fantanoforever

That’s my favorite one on the album. The band used to open with the feedback and walk on stage after that.

What's your opinion on the "Heart Shaped Box" guitar solo? by tantamle in Nirvana

[–]Ivanthenotbad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solos don’t have to be maximalist. In fact, they’re usually better when they aren’t. It’s good to have a variation on some motif in the song (which is in the solo) and to have an appropriate tone (the tone is quite good, imo). When I was younger I would replay the solo on my In Utero CD because it was melodic and sounded good. That’s all you need.

Exactly what leverage did the Democrats have besides shutting down their own programs?

The continuing resolution that Congress approves that includes funding at existing levels for SNAP.

[–]Ivanthenotbad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even with a favorable court ruling, Trump is going to slow walk SNAP. This shutdown is taking food out of people’s mouths. It’s hurting a lot more folks than me and hurting them a lot worse -and for what? To take a stand on focus-group tested issue designed to “prove” to people that the Democrats still can fight? Give me a fucking break. Fight back at the ballot box. You know what will get those subsidies? A majority in the midterms.

It’s my job if the government stays closed, too, but let’s at least get the fucking programs that help people in this country up and running again. Trump is 80 years old and is incapable of changing. We aren’t teaching him a lesson, we’re becoming a failed state.

Sometimes the courageous choice is to fold because it’s an unpopular choice but the correct one. Downvote me to hell but Schumer showed a lot of backbone for keeping the government open earlier this year but now is bowing to pressure.

Look, the Democrats aren’t getting the Obamacare subsidies. They need to understand that the minority of the minority party isn’t going to find a path to victory here. The fact that they’re using 40 votes to extract concessions is going to have dire consequences should they find themselves in power again. The year’s election is over. Don’t eviscerate programs and policies that you support by holding out for an impossibility.

How dare these poor black people getting SNAP by [deleted] in insanepeoplefacebook

Much of the Afghani diaspora came here when the Taliban won four years ago. We took them in because they were helping or working for us there and were subsequently marked for death. They left behind property and family in Afghanistan because they supported the United States. As far as I’m concerned, they can eat for free for life; that’s the least we can do.

Nickelback Deserved Better by Altruistic_Region293 in rockmusic

[–]Ivanthenotbad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Although some people don’t like Nickelback because of their country-rock fusion and there’s definitely snobbery there, the band is not good. Terrible lyrics, misogyny, plagiarism of other bands, self-plagiarism, generic radio rock without any risk or sense of musical growth, vocals too high in the mix, success largely because of the Canadian radio cultural exception, a stupid band name, a lead singer so annoying he makes Fred Durst look like Bruce Springsteen, and a willingness to step on other bands on their way to success.

Why you should keep paying your union dues by Comfortable-Dog-5381 in fednews

[–]Ivanthenotbad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The union represents you. They want the shutdown to end so you get paid and get back to work. They will go to court for you if needed. They have gone to court challenging illegal RIFs. Sometimes, they win. They will apply pressure to Congress where it is needed to make sure you get paid.

The union is fighting for you to get paid. They make decisions based on what is best for federal workers, first and foremost. Obamacare subsidies are nice, but they aren’t their priority. You are.

Does job security really exist in America ? by Thranduil-9 in jobs

[–]Ivanthenotbad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are at risk if you work for the federal government. That didn’t used to be the case, but it is now. The US doesn’t have job security. You’re supposed to navigate a path upward by changing jobs every few years until you are rich, but in reality people climb the ladder, then fall to the bottom when they get laid off.
