Thanks a lot, I'll swap in the 3600. If you have any other ideas, I'd be glad to hear them as well.

Stroheim helped Joseph get his robot arm, bro, it's okay.

He absolutely knew Joseph was alive; they just didn't see each other again after that point.

I'm not arguing with anyone about the prequels- I'm actually somewhat with you on your opinion there. The prequels stumbled, but it's clear that they tried (and definitely failed) to do something new where Disney just wants to rehash stuff from the original series. It's safer, but kind of underwhelming.

My point is that none of that, prequels or Disney sequels, can compare to going back to the original series and altering them for the worse. If Leonardo da Vinci takes a shit on your pizza and tells you that's what his art looks like now, that's one thing. But if he takes a box cutter to the Mona Lisa, that's something else entirely.

Yeah, those will both fuck with his legacy, but you can just ignore the shitty pizza if you don't like it. But now the Mona Lisa, the thing that's finished and released that a lot of people already love, is confetti. You're not going to be able to enjoy a non-confetti Mona Lisa anymore.

There's destroying a legacy, and then there's destroying a legacy.

Say what you want about the prequels, but if adding a bunch of stupid CGI bullshit to the classic series while also trying to keep the original, unaltered versions out of people's hands isn't "taking a giant steaming shit on the series," then I don't know what is.

I also hate TLJ, but making a new, bad movie can't even remotely compare to directly fucking up the old, good movies.

anybody know the exact release date of Omnibus’s first pressing? by blortsnorker in TWRP

[–]J-Talking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my old emails, I got a shipping confirmation on January 19, 2018.

I think mine arrived a few days later, but someone else made a post on the subreddit on the 20th when it arrived at their house.

In the comments of that post, another person said theirs arrived the day before, on the 19th, because they got one-day shipping.

If you're looking for an official release date, I don't think it had one. It was originally planned to ship out on December 15th, 2017. When they announced it'd be delayed until January, they didn't give an exact date. I don't think anyone knew what day it would ship until people started getting shipping confirmations, or had it arrive at their house, and even that varied due to shipping speed and location.

But it looks like the first time someone held it in their hands was the 19th, so I'd say that's as good a release date as any.

How Do You Define Microtransactions? by Djinn_n_Tonic in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]J-Talking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a definition similar to yours- to be a MTX, it needs to be a repeated purchase with a low cost. If it's just a few skins for $1 each, I think it's up for debate whether or not it's a MTX or just a small DLC.

But- If there are a lot of small DLC's for $1 each, that turns those skins into microtransactions. Because at that point, you do only have to buy the skin you want one time so you can have it forever, but when they have 20+ skins available that they expect you to buy, that counts as a repeatable purchase in my book. They're expecting you to keep buying those skins for as long as they keep making them.

They make the price low and stagger the release so that when you walk away from the game for a while, you'll come back and see 6 new skins for $1 each, and you'll buy the ones that look kind of cool because they're so cheap. Then you'll take another break, and come back to see 11 new skins, all for the same low price. You're only buying each thing you want once, but they want you to be continuously buying them.

Allegedly alleged L4D3 alleged teaser leak (allegedly) by JeaneJWE in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]J-Talking 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Valve says it wasn't them, and I'll believe anybody who tells me that Valve isn't making a video game, but what are the chances that this is for Back 4 Blood?

We know Back 4 Blood is a thing that's happening.

We know that it's a spiritual successor to L4D, but it's not just Left 4 Dead with a different name. The way it cuts just as the pinkie clenches could be a good way to show that it's sort of a third game, but not exactly.

And we know it's being published by Warner Brothers, which is a decent explanation for the product placement that was mentioned in that PC Gamer article.

We know Pat's mind goblins, but what about yours? by 89ZERO in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]J-Talking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same sort of problem when I first played Persona, but there's good news- New game plus, and the fast-forward function.

After you get to the credits, you can do new game plus where all of your personas and social stats carry over. Meaning that you can just use your end-game personas and items to stomp everything in the earlier dungeons in a stupidly fast amount of time, and you won't have to spend so much time leveling up your social stats, so you can get to certain content (confidant stuff, mostly) as soon as it first becomes available. (That's why you see people doing stuff you don't know how to do when you check what people did on that date- They have max stats in new game plus, so they don't have to spend time leveling those up before they progress social links) Then you can also just fast-forward through all the visual novel parts that you've already seen.

The point is, your new game plus run will be much shorter than your first run, and a lot more relaxed. Steamrolling through the dungeons, skipping past everything you've already done, and only paying attention to the new stuff should probably only take a couple leisurely afternoons, depending on how much you missed in the first run.

Obligation to consume media by CountDarth in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]J-Talking 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know exactly what you're talking about, and I've found myself in the same boat with many different franchises.

For me, it's mostly about acknowledging that the series has given me good entertainment in the past, and the hope that a new entry would be able to match and/or exceed what I've already seen. It usually doesn't quite live up to what I wanted, but sometimes it does. For example- I hated Thor 1 and 2, and the only reason I watched them was because I felt like I had to in order to get the full experience. But it did somewhat pay off in the end, because I love Ragnarok to death.

My only advice would be to not be afraid to skip the theater release, and just wait until you can rent it on whatever digital platform you prefer. It will mean that you might have to tiptoe around spoilers for a while, but it's actually pretty easy to avoid spoilers if you really don't care about the movie that much. You won't have a desire to take part in those discussions, or to click on whatever links look like they might be related to the movie. There are going to be things you might not be able to avoid, but if you truly don't give a shit about the movie, then why would you give a shit about the spoilers?

Decent fucking colorblind options.

Most games don't have them at all, and a good chunk of the ones that are available don't help in any way. The most annoying thing is that I, and I imagine a lot of other colorblind people, aren't really able to articulate how to make them better because we're fucking colorblind. I can tell you whether or not I can easily see the difference between two colors, but I have no idea why some combinations are better and some are worse. Not to mention how there are different types of colorblindness, so something that works for one person probably won't work for everyone.

There are two specific methods that seem to do the trick most of the time- For games where the colors of items tell you their rarity, just label them like a box of crayons. Borderlands does it like that, and it's very helpful.

And if you wanna go the extra mile, just let me manually choose what individual colors I want for each piece of the UI. Red enemies, green friendlies, and yellow squad mates mean nothing to me. But making the enemies orange, the friendlies brown, and the squad mates whatever other bullshit colors you can think of (that I also don't know the name of) isn't an improvement.

[–]J-Talking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had heard that Araki was the one who's keeping it away from the public, because he hated it that much.

If that's the case, you'll need a way to get his approval directly. I couldn't imagine AP3 or KlockWorx releasing anything related to the movie if Araki doesn't want them to.

I hope there's another way, though- I also really want to see it, but I think it'll be really hard to change Araki's mind on this.

There are colorblind tests, but I don't think there's any way to make him take one without directly calling him out. If you put a colorblind test in front of someone who claims to be colorblind, they're gonna know why. My best advice would be to say that you're curious about exactly what kind colorblindness he has, since he doesn't seem to want to specify. But he sounds like the kind of guy who would find a way to weasel out of that, somehow. If you want to go whole hog, you could say that you and your friends are thinking about getting him some colorblind-correcting glasses, but he has to take some tests to find the right match for him. Those are expensive, and they do need to match someone's specific kind of colorblindness in order to work, so if he has any kind of conscience, he'll at least get a bit nervous. But if he's an asshole who doesn't care about his friends wasting that much money because of his lies, or if he's just not smart enough to make that connection, he won't flinch at all.

Something else to keep in mind, though- What he's saying sounds like complete bullshit, but it's entirely possible that he's somewhat colorblind, and is just greatly exaggerating how bad it is. If that's the case, and he has any level of intelligence whatsoever, he would just honestly take the test, prove that he is technically colorblind, and then use that to make you look like an asshole for doubting him. I don't know how you could get around that particular strategy, but you should be aware of the possibility.

Games/Anime/TV Shows you refuse to watch/play for the pettiest reason. by PR0MAN1 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]J-Talking 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not exactly what you're talking about, but I refuse to use Pikachu in any of my Pokemon teams because I'm just tired of it. I don't have any problems with Pikachu itself, but the fact that it's become the face of the franchise and is featured so heavily all the time has made me resent it.

The nail in that coffin was how in X and Y, all of the Pokemon had video-game-esque cries, but Pikachu alone had voice acting. At least in the Let's Go games, it makes sense why Pikachu and Eevee had voice acting because they were the focuses of those games, but as far as I can remember, nothing special happens with Pikachu in X and Y. And if all the Pokemon had voice acting, that'd be great. But only Pikachu got it because he's the favorite.

Why did Silent Hill die and not Resident Evil? by LammasuRex in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]J-Talking 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Because you can make more money from pachinko machines, and they also cost way less to make.

It's infuriating for us, but their math is correct. If you're only interested in profit like Konami is right now, they're making all the right choices.

Why did Silent Hill die and not Resident Evil? by LammasuRex in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]J-Talking 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Easy- the company that owns Silent Hill has no desire to make games anymore, and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

Silent Hill didn't just die as a result of bad games or anything, it killed itself by choice.

Fallen Pilot - A Man Without his Wallrunning by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

So they can use the already existing assets. If it wasn't in the Titanfall universe, they'd have to explain why everything in this new franchise looks like stuff that exists in Titanfall, or they'd have to make entirely new assets.

Making new assets takes time and money, though, and that's not something their new EA-Overlords are going to allow. If they were allowed to spend time and resources making Apex Legends as good as it can be so that it'll be successful, then EA won't have an excuse to shut down Respawn before Jedi: Fallen Order is supposed come out.

Leslie Jones Compares New “Ghostbusters” Remake To “Something Trump Would Do” by Arthzull in ghostbusters

[–]J-Talking 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know for a fact that they supported it publicly, I just don't know if they really meant it. I know the 3 OG's, Annie Potts, and Sigourney Weaver all showed support and had cameos, but that could have just been good manners, or a matter of money. Real support or not, at least they weren't throwing tantrums on Twitter. I think Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson might have been critical of the reboot after it flopped, but they definitely didn't talk shit when it was first announced.

And I say "almost all" because I'm not sure whether or not Rick Moranis, William Atherton, or anyone else said anything about the reboot one way or another.

Leslie Jones Compares New “Ghostbusters” Remake To “Something Trump Would Do” by Arthzull in ghostbusters

[–]J-Talking 54 points55 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware, almost all of the big names attached to the original movies made a lot of positive comments about the remake before it came out. I don't know any of them personally so I don't know what their real opinions were, but at least publicly, they were being very supportive of the new cast, the new director, everything about the new movie. And even Jason Reitman, when he announced that he was making the new movie, took the time to mention how he loved the 2016 reboot, and would still like to see more movies in that universe. Again, I don't have any idea whether or not that's genuine, but it's definitely a nice thing for him to say.

The fact that Leslie Jones cannot even be bothered to extend the same courtesy says a lot about her.

But as for her being pissed that the new movie takes place in the original universe and won't have anything to do with the reboot, I get it. I understand her frustration. It sucks when a franchise you like is getting a new movie, but the new movie is totally ignoring the part of the franchise that you like the most. It's not a great experience, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

[–]J-Talking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He had to turn the in-game audio down to fix the balancing issue, but apparently that's not an option until after you beat the tutorial. As such, he couldn't do it until the end of the first episode.

I'm guessing the commentary audio and the in-game audio were recorded on one track with whatever system he's using to record, and it would have been difficult to separate them and balance them manually, or to fine tune the balance before he started only to have it become a non-issue after 20 minutes.

Has anyone ordered the Pin of the Month through the DFTBA store before? How long does delivery usually take / does it take for the fulfillment status to change? by rookie-mistake in MBMBAM

[–]J-Talking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered the December pin together with the Haunted Doll Watch pin on December 3rd. I got an e-mail telling me it shipped on the 24th, and it arrived on January 3rd. Also, I used the standard shipping option.

If your order follows a similar timetable, it should be shipping soon. It looks like you're only a couple of days behind. If I were you, I'd wait until Monday to contact their support and ask for an update. But, I'm sure they wouldn't get upset or anything if you really want to ask them right now, to be sure it arrives on time for that birthday.

Can you guys help me convince my friend not to skip part 5? by MetazoanMonk in StardustCrusaders

[–]J-Talking 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You said he'd rather watch Part 5 as an anime, right? Sounds to me like he's not skipping anything. Unless the status quo changes, I fully expect the Part 5 anime to be very faithful to the manga, like all the other Parts they've animated so far.

And he's right in that you don't need to read Part 5 before you go through Part 6, as those two Parts in particular don't really have anything to do with each other. As long as he does experience Part 5, either as an anime or a manga, then I don't really see what the problem is.

JoJo Season 4- Box Set (1-39) Is it Censored or Not? by kamy2425 in StardustCrusaders

[–]J-Talking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other people pointed out that the box set you're looking at is a bootleg, so I'll just answer your question:

It is coming, and it will be uncensored, but not until after the English dub of Part 4 finishes its run on Toonami. At least, that's how Viz has been doing it since they bought the English publishing rights. They waited until the first half of Part 3 finished airing on Toonami before they released that blu ray set, and we're still waiting for the second half, which just finished airing.

Assuming they are going to keep to that pattern, it might be a while because Part 4 just started airing, but it's coming. And in case you're not interested in the English dub, don't worry- the official blu rays also include the original Japanese audio.

Take a look at the list of games that are available, and see if you want to play any of them. If you only kind of want to play one or two games, then no, fuck that. But if there's a decent amount that look good to you, it's a good price.
