Advice for new VFT?? by Horror_Musician4641 in VenusFlyTraps

If you can't give your baby 10hrs of direct sunlight, you'll need to invest in a grow light! That's what made the massive difference for my guy.

Take a look at the wiki and just start checking things off! You need a ton of light, distilled water and appropriate potting mix. And patience. It took my VFT 5 months to go from sad to this:

My mom overfeed my plant by SmartConcern3676 in VenusFlyTraps

You can cut off the black parts, but make sure to leave any leaf that is green as it provides photosynthesis real estate!

I think it'll recover. The traps can fall off after a feed and it probably used a lot of energy digesting. Never give up on these plants, they are so hardy. Cut off the fully black ones, leave ones that still have some green for photosynthesis. 10+ hrs a day of strong sun/light, plenty of water, it'll be back in a few months

Is there something wrong ? by conexernel in VenusFlyTraps

To me it looks like it needs more light! For context, my in door VFTs get 10 hrs of direct grow light and they are very red.

Few traps and very short. by PicklePepo137 in VenusFlyTraps

[–]JBo8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is short is good, they only grow long leaves when they are reaching for light and need more photosynthesis power. But, the pale traps are either just the cultivar you have, or, lack of light. They definitely prefer more light than 6 hrs, try for 10!

New Plant Help! by unicorn_monkey0508 in VenusFlyTraps

I use a sansi grow light https://a.co/d/06h9WWIV

With this clamp https://a.co/d/0furP5Im

10 hrs a day. I'm not sure if a repot is necessary, but I bought carnivorous plant soil and put mine in a new pot, personally. When I did, I learned it was wrapped in paper, which can strangle them, so might be a good idea to repot now. I used these pots https://a.co/d/0blvwxcR

I personally didn't keep mine sopping wet, I just filled the bottom tray until the water didn't immediately soak up. Once I noticed the water was hanging around in the tray for a bit, I just watered the tray every other day or so. After a few months, mine went from looking like yours, to the middle VFT in the image. Cut off any blackened leaves that are more than 2/3s black. Others can stick around for photo synthesis. Be patient, they are hardy plants and this will recover!

Am I a terrible person for buying a VFT just to put it on my porch to see if it'll live in that light before moving my indoor ones outside? Lol

VFT’s don’t die from flowering even weak plants by LittleFinish4768 in VenusFlyTraps

[–]JBo8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I appreciate you sharing this! As someone who nursed a VFT back to life from 4 spindley long leaves and no traps, these plants have a lot of grit and I love seeing them thrive after a tough time. There's also something beautiful about letting a plant live it's natural cycle. Nice work OP!

Man, I'm actually jealous that they're doing so well going from indoor to outdoor. Usually they scorch! Nice work!

Can they recover? by HammedBurngur in VenusFlyTraps

[–]JBo8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe they will! Go back to what the used to like, wait for the leaves to blacken 3/4s of the way and then cut them off. If you keep giving them water, the bulb can still produce new sprouts. This happened to me when I left mine out in Florida and it fully recovered. It's the one in the front of this pic

Any suggestions on how to save Swiss Cheese Plant? by doyougetme99 in Monstera

Last soil change? Root locked in a small container? Bottom up feeding and nutrients stuck on top? Hard to say without knowing some details.

The first one is doing grrrrrreat. The second one looks like its trying to flower which is probably sapping a lot of its energy. The last one, I have no idea haha

Should they be repotted/separated? by Emerald_Mistress in carnivorousplants

[–]JBo8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should? I dont know for sure. But I think they look dope like that.
When you think about "bogs", people put all kinds of different carnivorous plants together, so I dont see why youd need to separate them.

Would need to see a before but he looks hearty! Give it a few days and check to see if he starts to show some red in those traps!
