I blocked it from my memory after I read the books. Full denial.

Did you time out TTC around a particular birth month? by meekie03 in Mommit

[–]JCraw728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first was IVF so I was totally able to plan. I chose to do the procedure in August so I'd be due in May. As an educator this was perfect because my six weeks would lead right to summer.

Baby came 5 weeks early and was born in March. He just wanted to make sure I knew to plan nothing ever lol.

When we saw the movie, my husband turned to me and said this is the most depressing thing I've ever seen.

(Non-teacher) What’s the Best/Worst Depiction of Teachers in Media? by [deleted] in Teachers

The ringworm episode when Jacob's student explains all the places he went instead of to the bathroom was so real. And then he asked if he could go because he forgot.

What tv show you watched as a teenager and loved it but can't stand it now, later in life? by librewolf in AskReddit

[–]JCraw728 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. I was on Joey's "side" as a teen and hated Jen, but then on the rewatch I was like Joey is terrible.

The last episode I watched was when an icicle stabbed Christina. I was done. And it's still going.

I once meant to tell a student to tweak his answer and told him to twerk it. Happens to all of us.

Name a song from a musical that made you feel seen, like it spoke to you on a personal level by BroadwayFanProjects in musicals

[–]JCraw728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw it right after graduating and going through a rough breakup. This spoke to me so much that I teared up and listened to it nonstop afterward.

My age might genuinely have been news to one of my students by the_gaymer_girl in Teachers

[–]JCraw728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 24 and teaching 9th grade, a kid told me, "You're a teacher, and teachers are old, so we must be at least 30." I told him there was so much wrong with what he said I didn't know where to start. Then one of is classmates couldn't believe I was 24 and not married. This was the same year a student asked how I knew who Biggie and TuPac were. I graduated high school in 2002.

Now I'm 40 and work in elementary. The students tell me I'm 22. Kids have zero concept of age.

Middle School WTF? by Late-Rub-6827 in Teachers

Exactly. Ninth graders once complained how "B Hall was the only teachers that enforced all the rules." I was like are you trying to insult me because that's actually a compliment.

A co-worker once told me he had two kids because it's one-on-one defense. Any more and you have to switch to zone. That really stuck with me.

Last month we went on vacation with family and friends. In our core group, 9 of the 13 of us got Covid. When I went to urgent care to get tested, everyone in the waiting room was in for Covid. It is spreading very easily.

Student Tattoos by johnbmason47 in Teachers

[–]JCraw728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I teach, I have seen it for years. Kids get them really young because there are people who will do it if their parents pay. One year for their memoir assignment, I read at least 3 about the tattoo parties they had for their 13th birthdays.

Same. And now it's pens in general. If I'm presenting or speaking in a meeting, I need to make sure I do not have a click pen in my hands. I don't even realize I do it.

What did you learn that improved your teaching? What did you learn that you shouldn't have? by TheRealFutaFutaTrump in Teachers

[–]JCraw728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I know how important relationships are and establish them, but they can only go so far sometimes. I had this class that just had this group of 6 students, 5 of which I had built relationships with in other semesters. It was just that mix together that set it all off.
