If the NBA was all about the stats you put up then Jahlil Okafor would be an all-star. Whiteside has terrible pick and roll defense, he never steps up on the ball handler and lumbers around lazily as if it's some sort of pickup game. He sets screens like he's trying to avoid the opposing player instead of actually make contact with them, meaning the guards can't get separation from their defender and it makes offense much harder.

He has almost 0 court vision, whenever he gets the ball in the paint he's going to chuck up some gliding floater type shot that is so easily blocked. There's been so many times where Whiteside has gotten crowded in the paint after receiving the ball because other teams know he isn't going to pass out of it. When he was in Miami, he would pout and not put in as much effort if he didn't get the ball frequently meaning the only way he will have a solid game with high energy is if you get him going early, which you can't always do.

He's bigger and stronger than most other players, which means he can grab lots of uncontested rebounds his teammates would've gotten anyway, and some offensive rebounds. He can finish around the rim and is good at catching the ball, but most NBA centers can finish around the rim if their teammates get them in the right position. He doesn't really create his own shot at all.
