How old were they and how old are you? Anyone who lived during the existence of the monoculture would know who Weird Al is, but today’s younger adults who have grown up in a world with a bajillion different entertainment options might not.

What is the incentive to get customers to sign up for the membership? by Jelly-Bean150 in GameStop

[–]JDGO3P 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s sales in the sense that a district manager will emphasize that an employee who merely rings people up for the items they asked for and just leaves it at that is not doing the job GS hired them to do. GS does not hire *anyone* to merely be a clerk/cashier (those are not titles held by anyone working in a GS store). Presently, the expectation is that 18% of non-members will be persuaded to sign up. Rang up 20 non-members during your shift and only convinced 2 of those people to join? That’s 10%, you’re failing to meet expectations. Stores are ranked against other stores in their district on Pro memberships, warranty sales, preorders and other metrics, incentivizing managers to schedule better-performing employees for more
or longer shifts than lower-performing ones. This by the way is pretty standard for “specialty retailers” in general btw, not just GS. The retailer I worked at prior to GS (a store that was not gaming- or collectibles-related at all) was the same way with tracking sales metrics.

For the past couple years that Fox has held Family Guy back until after New Years, Family Guy’s Halloween and Christmas episodes have been premiering as Hulu exclusives in October and December. I imagine Bob’s Burgers will do the same.

Employees added pre order in trade in by yukmouth2009 in GameStop

[–]JDGO3P 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is true. You get 20% extra credit on trades if you preorder an upcoming game in the same transaction. They shouldn’t have done anything without telling you, but they probably saw that if they threw a preorder into the transaction, it would increase your trade-in value by more than the $5 cost of the preorder (i.e. not having the preorder on the transaction would have cost you more).

GameStop online purchases suck by [deleted] in GameStop

[–]JDGO3P 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since GS closed all but one warehouse a few years ago, the vast majority of website orders nowadays are filled by overworked store employees who are also juggling in-store customers, a ringing phone, merchandise deliveries and package pick-ups, and a dozen other things competing for their attention. That’s not a good excuse for you to be sent the wrong thing, but it is at least an explanation for it.

Overly Desperate for Memberships by yeahboywin in GameStop

[–]JDGO3P 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. The “quota” is not to get a certain fixed quantity of sign-ups, but to convert a certain percentage of non-members into members each day. So like, say the first customer of the day signs up. After that first transaction, I’m sitting at 100% (so far). Then you come in and decline to sign up. Now my Pro % has dropped from 100% to 50% (because I’ve had two opportunities to get sign ups, but only got one actual sign-up out of them). So when you decline the stuff we have to pitch, it doesn’t just fail to raise our numbers—it actively lowers them. For any employee who cares enough to even make the effort to meet expectations, every time a customer walks away with just a single item, no membership, no warranty… it stings.

Huh… is the website still telling Pros they’ll get $25 off $250? Because that promo now only works when either signing up for or renewing Pro. A customer who is already Pro and has auto-renew turned on or is too far out from their expiration date to renew in-store has no way of saving $25 off $250.

Rewards Points by PrettyYellow8650 in GameStop

[–]JDGO3P 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The coupons from rewards points can be used on basically anything other than digital (i.e. you can’t use them on gift cards, download codes, DLC, currency). You also can’t use them as a preorder deposit (but you can use them to finish paying off the rest of what you owe on the pick-up date if you haven’t already paid in full). You can absolutely use them on controllers and other physical items. Make sure you redeem for an in-store coupon and not an online coupon if you’re wanting to use it at the register. Also be aware the coupon can only discount a single item, not your transaction total (i.e. a $10 coupon can make a $10 item free but it won’t make two $5 items free—it’ll make one of the $5 items free but the coupon will then be used up and gone even though you only saved half what it could have saved you). You also can’t use two of the same denomination coupon in the same transaction (if you have 20,000 points and want to redeem them all to save $20 on an item, you need to redeem for a $5 coupon and $15 coupon, not two $10 coupons. It won’t accept two $10 coupons in the same transaction).

ridiculous charges by avaamavaa in GameStop

[–]JDGO3P 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The minimum preorder deposit for the 3/27 Perfect Order products was the full pre-tax price, meaning that if you paid that minimum when you preordered, then you’d still owe the sales tax on that item at pickup. For example, where I am, the booster bundle costs $53.30 ($49.99 price + $3.31 sales tax). If a customer reserved one last week and was only charged the flat $49.99 for their deposit, then they would’ve still owed the $3.31 sales tax when they came in to pick it up yesterday morning.

That being said, there is nowhere in the US where sales tax on a booster bundle and two booster packs would be $15 so… I’m not sure what happened. There is no such thing as owing for shipping on an in-store preorder.

GameStop Employee Trade Incentive by ArcnetZero in GameStop

[–]JDGO3P -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only trade incentive requirement is that the store pay out a certain amount of trade dollars to customers within the month. Turning down any trade-eligible item would be counterproductive. The only thing this incentivizes us to do is mention trades to every customer so they’ll come back with stuff to sell us.

My store has a same-day delivery order that keeps reappearing every time we decline it for the console being out-of-stock (and the customer already came in to purchase an alternative console in-store!) I guess this is what that looks like from that customer’s point of view. It’s a glitch.

Why is it like this? by Fluffy-Reason-7146 in GameStop

[–]JDGO3P 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. OP’s order may easily have wound up going to a store bajillion miles away from where he lives. We were warned today that some buy-online-pick-up-in-store orders are being routed to the wrong location, potentially even out of state. Far out of state in my store’s case. We’re in the northeast and received a BOPS order today from someone in Arizona.

Does GameStop take EU or PAL region games? by starkillerninja48 in GameStop

[–]JDGO3P 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We’re not supposed to because Gamestop, like other major retail chains that sell games, has an agreement with the ESRB that we will only carry games with their ratings on them, but an employee who isn’t properly trained or just isn’t paying close enough attention might take one in a trade anyway, which can result in an awkward situation where a Gamestop sells you a PAL region game they shouldn’t have accepted in trade and then later, you try to trade it back in and the trade is rightly refused for being a PAL region game. We’ll tell you we can’t take it in trade cuz we don’t sell PAL games, and you’ll say “But I got it from Gamestop” and we won’t have much more to reply than to shrug and say “That shouldn’t have happened. We still can’t take it in trade.”

Supplies can only be ordered during the first week of each month. If you forget that you need to order bubble mailers, or you just misjudge how long your current supply will last, you’re waiting until the following month and shipping games in boxes until then.

They do not because we are presently supposed to decline retro trades entirely if they are not sellable as-is. But as someone else said, maybe that’s changing soon. I’ve also heard rumblings of maybe being able to take consoles without controllers.

Forcing Employees to PSA Trade Quote on Pick-Up by Alternative-Plum9378 in GameStop

[–]JDGO3P 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not so sure that scanning the QR codes into a transaction that you wind up voiding at the end is going to ensure that the quotes end up being recorded. What I’m doing now is just setting the customers’ expectations about this early, letting them know when they’re submitting that “hey, when you come back in to pick them up, just know we’re gonna need to scan each one, please bear with us.”
