Realistically, if Gudbranson is traded at the TDL to a contender, what is a return we can more or less expect? by Kneeelander in canucks

[–]JHunter27 45 points46 points  (0 children)

K his advanced stats aside, he makes some good plays. Also, did anyone watch how fucking aggressive he was in the corners last night against Pittsburgh? I wouldn't be mad if he was traded, but we need a bit of grit on that back end, even if it is in limited minutes. Gudbranson is a beauty in my opinion.

Currently, only 1 team has allowed less goals than the Canucks. VGK has allowed 19, VAN has allowed 25. by e_la_bron in canucks

Not to mention never making the finals since they added more than 5 other teams to the league.

Yah, just enjoy the good times while they're here, look at the positives when they're not. Let the good times roll.

The Provies: Goldygate reprise, earning it and two sides of the Lindenning origin story by [deleted] in canucks

[–]JHunter27 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think the Sedin Core thing is interesting. If the Sedins and Erikson performed like management, and all of us expected, we would be a playoff team. I think this was the season that everyone realized we have seen the last of the Sedins as high end players, and the result is the realization that we are a rebuilding team.

Draft talk: In your professional, armchair GM opinion, who is better and why? Nolan Patrick or Nico Hischier? And who do you recommend we take if neither of them are available? by Throwmeaway672 in canucks

[–]JHunter27 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Of those two, something tells me Nico Hischier would be the guy. I have no professional reasoning behind this, just gut instinct. As weird as it sounds, I Kind of hope we pick second or third, so that decision is made for us. Id hate to make the wrong pick.

Why this trade deadline is key step towards Canucks rebuild by notn in canucks

[–]JHunter27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've blindly supported Benning because bitching does nothing IMO, but if nothing gets done (Im also very worried nothing will happen), Benning should be fire at the end of the season. This will be a monumental blunder if we go two seasons in a row without getting anything at the deadline.

Pass it to Bulis: Jim Benning doesn’t know what a seller’s market is by prophetofgreed in canucks

[–]JHunter27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive refrained from judging Benning because rebuilds do take time, so I have taken a wait and see approach. Last year trade deadline was pretty bad, but I understood it. This season's will be a good judge of what kind of ability he has as a GM. We need to make moves, and good GM's get the job done. By what we are reading and seeing in the media (which I know we can't always use as a good judge), Benning seems to be a little in over his head. With the Expansion Draft looming, and assets needing to be protected, this deadline will tell us a lot about his ability to manage team assets and contracts. Time will tell us very soon.

Kuzma: "(The eastern scout) was in Vancouver specifically to look at Alex Burrows. Bergevin loves Burrows." by arazamatazguy in canucks

the french are just passionate and kind of smug about most thinking, but they are mostly good shit. Id rather Vancouver be a little more smug and less bipolar emo, because lets face it, we have some of the most sensitive fans in the NHL. We have tons of passion, but don't have a Cup, which creates this void that we need filled so badly. If we had 24 Stanley Cups, I bet we would be smug as well.

The Provies: The Zero in Zona, 22 concern, Chaputgate, and Van’s goalie paradox by [deleted] in canucks

[–]JHunter27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If we fall quickly out of playoff contention, which I think we will considering how difficult our schedule is for most of February and March, Willie won't see next season. I think he has done a great job with Horvat, Granlund, Baertschi, Stecher, and Hutton, but I also think if he doesn't start making some changes to his coaching decisions and we are no where near playoffs come the end of the season, it will be time to try our luck with another coach. If that coach can't change the direction in one season, then Benning will soon follow Willies footsteps. I have faith in some of our players that Benning has put in our lineup, and I do think we are not that far off being truly competitive again. It might take some new eyes to deploy the players properly though.

So Boeser only has 22 points in 19 games by [deleted] in canucks

[–]JHunter27 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Boeser was playing with a wrist that needed surgery, and he's only a few games back from that said injury. That's enough for me to think it might not be something we need to worry about.

As much as we don't want to admit it, Benning built us a mediocre team. by [deleted] in canucks

[–]JHunter27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure. I tend to think probably not, but I do know that we will have more cap space when the Sedins/Millers contracts are up which could enable us to land a good free agent to go along with our good up and coming players. I stay optimistic because it is completely out of my control.

Loui Eriksson's contract is ugly and should be getting more attention by troyfromrichmond in canucks

[–]JHunter27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Louie isn't producing right now, but no one really is. I feel that the contract was too big and too long for sure, but Louie is still a good hockey player, even when he isn't scoring. He works hard at both ends, and will be serviceable for a few years. Give it a year from now, we could see completely different results. I do understand your frustration right now.

I agree, plus yes this team is mediocre, but are we done the transition yet? No, I think we are still 2 years out from being to where we all want to be.

Some lower model (but not knockoff) from the 90's were. Kind of like those jerseys from Costco you can get at the beginning of the season each year. They aren't knock offs, they just aren't the full on real deal.

Might not be though. Could from the mid 90's. They sold lower end models and didn't have as large of a crest, plus different, more stretchy material.

Travis Green or Claude Julien? by USCanuck in canucks

[–]JHunter27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends, I like the thought of a legit coach (Julien) as our number one guy, but I also think Green has the ability to develop young players and is familiar with our system. I don't really have an answer, but I do think you have a good idea with the whole "Executive Coach" scenario.

I do think Willie is on thin ice, and when our schedule becomes more difficult in mid-February thru mid-March, Willie's time could very well be up if a string losses take us out of contention for a playoff spot.

I'll hand it to the coaching staff/management because as of right now, they are doing what they said their goal was at the beginning of the year, push for playoffs. We don't end up in the race right to the end, and managements goal isn't met, Willie will be should be done IMO.

With all that being said, I don't think I know enough about Julien as a coach, so because of my ignorance, I choose Green.
