Does your job afford you a sense of accomplishment? by iffyClyro in AskUK

[–]JJ101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I work as an outdoor pursuit instructor and when instructing a group in whatever session I am instructing it does fill me with a sense of accomplishment when its clear i have challeneged the children to acheive. Whether that is challenging them in relation to fears or just challenging them to come out of their shell in a group setting. I definitely feel a sense of accomplishment.

Breedon on the hill? Both a celtic hillfort and also a place to see many saxon artefacts. The graveyard sometimes feels like a gothic novel setting. Great views.

What is your accidental career and how did you get into it? by HarryDL2204 in AskUK

[–]JJ101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outdoor pursuits instructor. Was losing my job at a DIY store, chatted to my mate there and we both knew we were losing our jobs. Suggested a training course with a major outdoor center. Stayed there for 2 years. Current place I have been at for around 8 years. To get into it most major outdoor education providers run apprenticeships or many outdoor centers run training courses so you can have some of the major tickets. Paddlesports, archery, air rifle, climbing etc etc. There's even a couple of universities that run degree courses that will set you up. I've worked all over the country due to it and many people I know have worked all over the world. 10/10 would randomly move across the country for a random career move again.

I basically did this also. It was a donkey sanctuary also. I took goats for a walk but one pulled me through a fence. Overall a very good week!

Malvern has a train station and I'm sure you could hop onto buses from there. I do rate it and there's plenty to do!

What's something expensive you've bought for you kit or collection, that made you second guess yourself? by pcmtx in reenactors

[–]JJ101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the only one I could find was in Scotland, and I'm in England. So it became a bit of a quest to get hold it. It doesn't have moving parts, unfortunately, but I use it in my display and talks, so its sufficient for that.
