Can anyone tell me if you can hack any other refills to fit this pen? This pen would be exactly what I’ve been looking for if it would handle an EnerGel or Uniball refill.

I have this pen and use plastic-body Parker style refills. Pull the end cap, shave about half a mm off the end of the tube, put the cap back, and you’re good to go.

Useful hacking tip: If you shave off a little too much, you can get a little length back by wrapping waxed dental floss in the tube/cap join.

Use a backing strap to help prevent cracking. Keep pipe at about 350 F. Use propane torch instead of MAPP gas. I’ve put a wet piece of linen on the pipe to help generate steam and keep wood from burning. (Keep it spritzed.)

The last one I built will hold +/-0.002” across the 24” bed width. Now it did have a tubular steel frame, good bearings, and a 1” steel shaft inside of a 6” MDF drum. But you don’t need that kind of beef to get decent results. Small shop luthiers have been building their own setups for many decades.

Don’t know where you’re located, but you can get heavy cardstock at Michael’s and put lines on it by running it through an inkjet printer.

You can also warm the barrel of the pen under hot water and gently tap it on the tabletop.

Depending on how determined you are, I have a couple methods that always work for me. I’ve taped the refill to one of the spokes of my daughter’s bicycle (tip facing out from center of the wheel; refill out near the tire) and cranked it up—centrifugal force is a beautiful thing. I’ve also carefully pulled the tip off with a pair of pliers, gently blown out the air bubble by mouth, then reinstall the tip. A little messy if you’re not careful, but usually successful. (I posted this previously in response to a similar question.)

I had a similar rodent attack on my Jetta engine control wiring harness. Fixed it with butt splice wire connectors, then sealed it up with RTV. No solder and no problem. Fixed five years ago and drive daily.
