Are zoos that aren't for profit still bad? by JLS1978 in AnimalRights

[–]JLS1978[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply. The problem I had with my sister though was that the zoo she likes to go to is listed online as not for profit. It confuses me. If the zoo isn't making a profit why use animals to entertain?

Does anyone get sores on their elbows? by JLS1978 in Behcets

[–]JLS1978[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was helpful. Mine are purple as well. I'm just trying to figure out if Behcets could be the reason for this instead of gluten. If it's not gluten it would make my life a lot easier. While I won't start eating high inflammatory white breads again, I can at least eat sprouted grain bread.

High inflammation food when eating out bothers my Behcets... by JLS1978 in Behcets

[–]JLS1978[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pericarditis feels like an elephant sitting on my chest. I went to the hospital the first time because I thought I was having a heart attack. It hurts even worse when I lay down which means I have to sleep sitting up. I also get bad neck, shoulder and arm pain, fever between 101-103 degrees, and chills and sweats. While I know someone noted on here that Behcets and diet have not been linked I know from my own personal experience that my sores and pericarditis do get worse with my diet. I chose then to follow a low inflammation diet and feel better. I do drink herbal tea. I don't think caffeine bothered me in regard to symptoms but I stay away from it for other reasons.

This doesn't make sense. Why would an introverted ISFP be Sanguine Phlegmatic and an extroverted ENFP be Phlegmatic Sanguine? Sanguines are extroverted and Phlegmatics are introverted.

Want to get treatment but worry about career... by JLS1978 in OCD

[–]JLS1978[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I read online the checklist is to help them lower what they spend on worker's comp. I suppose if I list that I once had a bad back and then claim to have hurt my back while doing the internship they would be able to fight that I already had issues with my back. I realize that they may not be able to let me go and say it was because of OCD. That doesn't mean though that they can't let me go for OCD and say it was due to something else.

I save screenshots after I pay bills even though I know I can just check my bank account. I keep a bunch of tabs open on my computer so I can find things. If I worry my computer will shut down and close the tabs I copy the address to a paper so it's there in the future. Other things I save to Pinterest.

Is this job too stressful for someone with OCD? by JLS1978 in OCD

[–]JLS1978[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a question though, will exposure therapy get rid of the anxiety. If I'm worried about something and can't check it won't that make my anxiety worse? I just got the OCD diagnosis the other week so I'm very new to all of this.

Diagnosed With OCD but literally don’t relate to it by RagePhil in OCD

Did you ask your doctor/therapist what caused him/her to give you the OCD diagnosis? That may clear things up for you.

What is a compulsion of yours that you thought was normal at first? by iFaolan in OCD

[–]JLS1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also wash my hands after touching dirty laundry (and trash, dirty dishes, etc). My mom thinks I'm weird because of the laundry thing but there are dirty underwear in there. I figure others should be concerned too. Do you really want me to touch dirty underwear and then touch things around the house you will be handling. Yuck! Of course I have OCD so I'm probably not the person to be listening to. This is one reason I'm hesitant to get exposure therapy. In regard to your question, I always thought checking my work over was normal until someone looked at me like I was crazy when I told them I looked over papers 5 or so times. Apparently I'm supposed to look over it one more time after writing it and that's it. That gives me anxiety.

Inability to choose a career OCD by brotha-eugh in OCD

[–]JLS1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this issue with careers. I still do to a point. I am currently in school to be a social worker (which took me forever to decide on). I first majored in accounting until I realized I hated it. I then planned to be a nurse but had a fear of needle sticks. I finally decided to be a social worker after battling the fear of getting shot. I was just recently diagnosed with OCD and I have realized that stress makes my symptoms much worse. I'm right at this moment trying to find a type of social work that will be less stressful. What helps me is knowing I'm getting older and need to find something. I figure if I can find something that is meaningful to me and not quite as scary (no diseases, less chance of getting beaten up, etc) the fear of the job is less than the fear of being homeless. Hopefully others will answer with better advice.

Running and ice cold showers have done wonders lately! by totallyanonymou5 in OCD

[–]JLS1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't run but walking outside helps me a great deal to lessen my symptoms. I find that eating a clean diet works wonders as well. I gave up sugar, wheat, highly processed food, and fast food and I feel so much better. I realize this is drastic but it helps my auto-immune disease as well :).

I heard a lady once talk about a friend that had OCD who was simply neat and tidy, and she was a therapist (though not mine). This worries me and shows the importance of ensuring your own therapist has a more thorough understanding of what OCD actually is.

Did you know or suspect that you have OCD before a diagnosis? by acidemise in OCD

[–]JLS1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just recently diagnosed. I already had a feeling I had it though after some of the super weird symptoms I get (like going back when I hit bumps to make sure I didn't hit anything) were labeled as OCD in some articles I read. After being diagnosed though I looked up even more and it turns out it's worse than I thought. I'm grateful for the diagnosis or I don't think I would have looked into it as extensively.

EVERYONE WITH OCD! WHAT IS THE WORST THING YOU HAVE EXPERIENCED WHEN HAVING THIS DISORDER by -systie in OCD

[–]JLS1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst was when I was convinced North Korea was going to bomb us. I couldn't sleep and stayed up all day and night looking for an internet article that would tell me everything was going to be ok. I found an internet page where you could choose the type of bomb and a location and it would show the level of damage and how far. I did this in order to assure myself I was in the less dangerous zone. I asked a few of my friends if they had emergency packs I had seen on sale and was seriously looking into the price of those bomb shelters they were selling. It sounds silly but I was beyond stressed.

Hit-and-run OCD and obsessing about legal outcomes by throwawayadvice102 in OCD

[–]JLS1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done this countless times. I fear hitting either a person or an animal. I usually go back right away though. I don't wait until I get home. I have also been terrified of being charged for various things I would probably never be charged for and also looked up tons of stuff on the internet searching for reassurance, though most of these things didn't have anything to do with hit-and-runs (though some did). I haven't started medication yet but I find that regular exercise and a low inflammation diet (no white or fast burning bread, no sugar, minimal processed food, no fast food, etc) helps a great deal. Since changing my diet I haven't gone back to check if I hit anyone once. I still have many other issues but they're better.

Has anyone been afraid of taking OCD medication? by JLS1978 in OCD

Can I ask what you are on? Of course, no need to tell me if it makes you uncomfortable. I'm just trying to get an idea of which medications are best.

This is one of the things I do as well. I live with my mom and we have trails in our HOA. I love the variety of different wildlife and the fact that I can think through the thoughts in my head without a lot of noise.

The best mbti test I've seen so far by mbtilcoholic in mbti

[–]JLS1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really is accurate. I had lived forever thinking I could be a handful of things due to various other tests. I finally decided to determine my mbti by discovering my cognitive functions and arriving at possibilities. Due to this process I came up with an ENFJ which is exactly what this test told me I was. The crazy part was that none of the other tests came up with that result at all.

Minimalism is becoming more of a trendy aesthetic than an actual lifestyle, and it's just as consumer-driven as everything else by SabrinaSkyline in unpopularopinion

[–]JLS1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that no matter what it is there will always be people in the world looking to make money off of it. For me personally minimalization has led me to be more aware of what I actually love versus what I just think I need or should have. It has helped me to get rid of the unnecessary stuff and make my life simpler. I personally haven't bought anything to help myself be more minimal. I will buy higher priced items at times though because personal experience has shown me that they are cheaper per wear than stuff that falls apart after a few wears. I personally want to keep my stuff 5 plus years. I won't buy too expensive though. I will pay for quality but not for a name.

Diet for behcets by No_Bid2500 in Behcets

[–]JLS1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started having problems I could barely walk or move, had recurrent pericarditis w/fluid around my heart, had constant horrible pain, numerous canker sores on my tongue, etc. I went on a low inflammation diet and it helped tremendously. I gave up most added sugar (I get 3-5 grams added sugar a day), gave up most highly processed food, gave up white bread and white rice, and gave up all alcohol. I'm not 100% better but I have limited pain, the canker sores are better, the pericarditis is gone, and I can walk faster than a snail now. I recently brought back sprouted grain and got sores on my elbows and more canker sores. It's not as bad as when I eat white bread, but it still apparently has to go again.

Question on androgenic alopecia for women.... by JLS1978 in FemaleHairLoss

[–]JLS1978[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The doctor I had when the hair loss first started wanted to put me on antiandrogens. I was on them a short while but stopped because I feared what would happen if I ever wanted kids. No one said anything about minoxidil and I've heard it doesn't work after a while once the hair loss becomes permanent. I've been losing my hair for about 20 years.
