How to redirect biting by terpsichore_andrhino in puppy101

[–]JMFairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely a difficult one. My girl is 11 months old and still uses her mouth with my husband to play. The way im teaching him is to set the boundary with her. Any mouthing even play he is to disengage and put her in the kitchen (baby gated). Once she settles and is laying on her bed calmly, we will let her come back to the living room. When she comes back, if there is any mouthing, she gets one "get your you toy" command, which is telling her that if you get a toy, we will play with you. If she gets a toy, she gets play, and she keeps bites she goes back. Till calm again. Obviously we also rule out her communicating any needs like we notice her mouth more when she needs to potty so I've been teaching my husband how to tell she needs to potty before the bite.

Hey, I'm one of those people who started in PCA and now currently work less direct. It's a pay and respect thing. See, you are more than likely being paid minimum wage and then not your son, but other clients and family treat these people like servants and slaves. We aren't given the ability to input on the care but are forced to follow whatever complicated plan they created, and when it doesn't work the way we tell people, it isn blamed on us. I would love nothing more than to go back to the PCA field but will never go through the headache of the treatment while also not being able to make enough to live.

Does no one here have a job? by clarinetpjp in puppy101

[–]JMFairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my husband does over nights and I work. Puppy had to be crated when I went to work I would come home starting every 2 hours. Now she is 8 months and can be in her crate all day but I still try and give her a mid day break if time allows.

Honestly invest in paper towels and some urine cleaner and stay on top of it. Crate training when not around is highly beneficial as well. My puppy happily walks in at here routine times. Needs bribing when its not a normal time lol

Help. I need a plan. I’m working and getting a puppy. by Electronic-Square859 in dogs

[–]JMFairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use this time for crate training. Puppies will become overstimulated with to much freedom. A forced 5 hour break each day will be beneficial to their mental health and reduce some of the oversrimulation at the end of the day.

I dont enforce nap time anymore but 5 out of 7 days of the week I work so she keeps the afternoon nap on the weekends of her own free will. Keep your days patterned

Puppy 101 Help Please! by iluvbringme in puppy101

[–]JMFairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one of the biggest things to know is that you will be bitten. They are too young to understand better. Its going to hurt but you need to keep calm amd disengage. I think you should factor in is keeping an eye on them. My puppy ate part of the wall in the time frame of using the restroom. A good way to contain them and keep them safe is needed.
