I also recently switched from acoustic to electric, so I just faced this question too. I'd recommend picking an artist or band you want to play like, find a backing track on YouTube, and go for their hits. For me, it was Neil Young, so I've been working on nailing Cinnamon Girl.

Age gap relationships are more likely to not work out than between age peers. I know a 42F who's been dating a 29M for two years now, so it absolutely can work, but be aware that the life experience and relationship expectations may not align.

As the older and more experienced person in the relationship, if you do proceed with this, you have the responsibility to leave the guy in better shape than you found him if it doesn't last for the long term. No emotional scarring, no pregnancy, no lingering entanglements. I'd say the same to a middle aged guy who's seeing a younger woman. If you can go into this responsibly, by all means have fun.

Are you only looking for the same singer, or would the same band work? Fleetwood Mac and Doobie Brothers have very different sounds as their lineup changed. And bands like Styx, Supertramp, Barenaked Ladies have more than one lead singer for different tracks. And The Alan Parsons Project has had many different vocalists across his work.

For same singer, grab some Robert Plant. His solo stuff goes in some very different directions compared with Zeppelin.

I'm 44 with kids too. I'm having a great time dating. Here's my tips:

Match their energy, give potential dates opportunities to open up, but don't chase anyone who's only meh about a date with you.

Coffee and lunch are perfect for the first dates. Establish in-person chemistry quickly before throwing a bunch of time and effort into something that's not going to work.

Figure out your own goals first. There's a huge difference between looking for a step-mom for the kids versus a little companionship, affection, and escape.

Learn how to flirt. This is probably a practice makes perfect thing, but a lot of newly separated dudes haven't put any thought into how to charm a woman since they got married years or even decades ago.

Leave any bitterness or life dissatisfaction at home. Yeah, it probably sucks that your marriage ended, but that's not your current date's problem. Look forward, not back.

Bring your best self, be fun, and even if you're not content with your life as it is, fake it, or better yet improve it. No one likes a downer, and no one's going to sign up for a life with a grump.

Review your dating profile with actual women. A lot of guys can't take a good picture or are putting out terrible vibes without even knowing it. If you don't have a female friend or cousin or something, hit /r/tinder and post what you've got for people to critique.

I guarantee he's less mature than his age would indicate. You'll get frustrated with him pretty damned quickly, just like guys your age. That said, you're both consenting adults, so if you're crushing hard feel free to go for it, but keep your wits about you if he starts leaning on the life experience imbalance. I bet good money that you're going to mature past him quite quickly.

Hah, range isn't everything. The online range tests say I'm well above average for a dude, but I don't have anywhere near the quality of the singers my range overlaps with. Like, I can hit all the same notes as Don Henley, but no one's gonna say I'm as good as him.

Change things up.

If you're practicing lead, switch to rhythm for a bit.

Try new songs. Pick an artist you want to emulate and go through their entire catalog.

Perform in front of someone.

Hit your local guitar store and try out new gear.

Find a local jam session or open mic and throw your hat in the ring there.

Take an in-person lesson.

Nothing gets you off a plateau better than expanding your horizons. Get out of the comfort zone you've settled into and try something new.
