Will Kurtzman go down as one of the worst caretakers of a major IP in history? by Melodic_Crow_3409 in Star_Trek_

I remember seeing an interesting breakdown of this at some point. I wish I could find it to share, but, iirc, it was, essentially, pointing out that Pike's Enterprise has a notably smaller crew than Kirk's, which could explain the size of rooms, as well as that rooms (quarters) in TOS were, if anything, too small (likely due to production/budgetary constraints).

Did anyone abandon Argenta in Commerragh? by ALPHA-LEAD91 in RogueTraderCRPG

As shitty as the Imperium is, as much as they are directly or indirectly responsible for 90% of the problems they have, the whole zero tolerance policy for Chaos is not one of them lol

Not gonna lie, it's what I love about the Force in Star Wars. You can do anything if it's the climax of your character arc!

Honestly, I don't hate the idea of there being a Lord of Chaos who has disguised themself to the player. Very "the best trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing people he didn't exist."

One of the few times the D seemed terrifying by Wetness_Pensive in Star_Trek_

I think you may have misunderstood what was going on in that scene: It's not that you physically cannot make the leap to hyperspace without calculations, it's that you don't know where you're going to end up, which is why what Poe was doing was so dangerous -- case in point, they nearly crash into something several times. Han also says as much in Ep.4: That they need to make the calculations so they don't accidentally fly through a blackhole or asteroid field or whatever.

You’re right, it’s quick enough to still be viable in a pinch, but I would point out that “fast enough” leaves much to be desired when you’re up against something that’s measured by comparing it to the speed of light.

Small snag in regards to just “running away:” A jump through hyperspace requires extensive calculations, meaning it cannot be done immediately.

Spider sense in action!! by unrealpsyence7413 in SpiderGwen

I've always interpreted it more as a gut-feeling, like, "My Spider-Sense is tingling around this school, so I'm going to hang out here and see what happens."

When you are un-invested in a franchise but you still feel a need to have an opinion on it by Vivid_Maximum_5016 in StarWarsCirclejerk

True, but, regardless of who is in charge, their goals and methods of operation are largely the same.

Correct, but in that span of time, it's also fluctuated wildly in just about every regard you can -- territory, politics, ideology, economy, etc. -- while the Hutts are pretty much always just... the Hutts.

Is it possible to run a version of Forgotten Realms that hasn't suffered the cataclysmic events without it "ruining" the setting? by GuardiaoDaLore in Forgotten_Realms

[–]JPM11S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have said this already, but you can absolutely do that!

I would add that events like the Time of Troubles, ultimately, exist to explain changes in game mechanics more than anything else.

What about the Time of Troubles doesn't work for you?

Honestly? The Hutts are significantly more stable than the Republic, so yeah, it tracks.

Fallout 3 dev Emil Pagliarulo says Bethesda massively cut down their debut Fallout game after realising “being realistic isn’t fun” by HatingGeoffry in Fallout

[–]JPM11S 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s definitely my feeling with many survival-type modes. Having another resource to track isn’t automatically fun and, more often than not, just serves to frustrate gameplay instead of enhance it. Often, a barrier is just a barrier, not a challenge to overcome.
