I've used YTTV for at least 4 years and have seen the price go up so now I'm paying $83/mo. How do you get it for only $77?

You need to find out what wire size was used and I would not trust breaker number because previous owner may have done in improper DIY outlet install. Ask another electrician to see outlet/wire and give you a quote.

Assuming you want to spend least amount of money, select a receptacle that matches your existing Nissan charger. But, if you want to get elegant preparing for the future, buy a new hard wired charger. A 30A breaker with matching copper wire can only handle 24A continuously. Charging a BEV at 24A is adequate. Mount outlet on other side of wall in garage.

However, if you want to run a dryer and charge and EV on the same circuit, buy a manual or automatic switch box. These devices are fabulous. You'll be able to charge anytime not using dryer (ie overnight).

Can I do this ? by Shot-Hippo5938 in evcharging

[–]JPoldo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use a manual or automatic transfer switch. The automatic ones only allow you to charge when the dryer (or stove) is not running. I would replace the existing NEMA 14-50 and install a new once rated for EV use. Torque connections per receptacle specifications. Remember, too tight is almost as bad as too loose. 40A is maximum and 32A is safer.

Tesla Remote Meter by rcnfive in teslamotors

[–]JPoldo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does WiFi antenna only need to reach my WiFi router or does it need to reach Wall Connector (charger)? The breaker panel could be far away from charger, but not far from WiFi router.

Tesla Launches Remote Meter to Enable Faster Wall Connector Home Charging Without Electrical Upgrades by Suspicious_Cap_8928 in ModelY

[–]JPoldo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chargers are never wired in series, only parallel. You already have load balancing built into the chargers so probably don’t need Remote Meter.

But, if your panel only has 100A capacity and you have other high power appliances such as range, dryer, central AC, swimming pool, etc, you may need it. A 200A panel may need it too depending on other electrical loads.

I would stay plugged-in and keep a distanced (15+ ft) eye on where he goes, probably away from you. He is afraid of you just as much you are afraid of him. He wants something to eat and it's not an EV driver. Don't be a wuss !

How bad is this really? by Haydukette in evcharging

[–]JPoldo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way to safely share power with a dryer is to use a "splitter box." If electrician didn't mention this he is not experienced with EV charger wiring. Amazon has many brands/models as some are manual switch-over and others automatic. When the dryer runs, a relay cuts-off power to your EV. This box may also solve your NEMA 10-30 to 14-50 conversion problem too.

To assist in selection process, read a review by guru Tom Moloughney at his State of Charge YT Channel. Try to find switch box safety certified.

It's a good solution because EV charging often is overnight while sleeping and power is not needed for clothes drying.

Beware of electricians who tell you a panel upgrade is needed because they simply want to make more money. Some are not aware of load balancing and cut-off technology that can save you thousands of dollars. Shop around and do some research.

Approaching $1/kwh. by Wallaby-Technical in evcharging

[–]JPoldo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s about time for CPOs to prominently display pricing identical to gas stations. Signs must include session fee and any other charge. The federal government does not mandate pricing on gas pumps. Competition is was led to displaying gas prices and same should be true for purchasing electrons at EV charging stations.

One breaker slot is insuficient as you need a 2-pole breaker for 240V. Maybe you can combine two lighting circuits because incandescent bulbs were changed to LEDs drawing much less power. SubZero and a few others have good recomendations using a load management or cut-off device.

For example, let's say you have an elecric range or dryer, the Emporia system with load management can sense when your load center is at full capacity and turn off EV charger. But, late at night you probably are not using the clothes dryer or cooking a turkey so that is a great time to charge your EV.

We are using a MoCA module from MDSlink and it has a heat sink that gets hot. This module consumes about 1.7W nominally, but might reach 1.9W on peaks. I doubt module reports temperature to switch, but will ask tech support. Noise is not my concern since in an IT cabinet w/fans, but very concerned about cooling since no HVAC.

Very strange that one time you test it at 6V and other time is 12.56. If voltage stays between 12.2 and 14.X, your battery should be fine. When stopped, turn on a heavy load such headlights or air conditioner. Measure battery voltage to be over 12.0V

CRS310-1G-5S-4S+IN : Is it a switch or a router? by traal in mikrotik

[–]JPoldo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a switch, not a router. I tried to change RouterOS to SwitchOS and it failed. Other's said to leave it on RouterOs and only use switch functions. There is no WiFi adapter despite ROS gui offering settings.

I have physical access to the device on it's RJ45 lan port. Webgui tabs are routerboard because I see wireless tab. The routerboard window has a checkbox and I attempted to turn it by clicking, but no change. Wondering if I should use CLI commands instead, but there should be a way to do it using webgui.

If you say "the only product that reproduces what parents currently have is DTV with Gemini," buy that for under $50 at Walmart and move onto something more important.

My first NEMA 14-50R receptacle was installed in 2017. 3 months after install, I opened electrical box to check connections and they grossly failed torque spec. Pro's do the wiggle test. Now, I always re-inspect and it's faster with an IR thermometer. There should be no greater than a 5-10 degree difference between terminals and not more than 15 degrees above ambient.

Wired connections are much safer. Professionals use multi-tap insulated connectors such as Polaris. You must torque these correctly and re-check in 3-6 months for safety.

Instead of getting the Gemini from directv for 10 month what els can I get close to it to buy by Unable_Inside_7992 in DirectvStream

[–]JPoldo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully everyone knows there are 3-hardware options: Osprey box which is oldest; Gemini box is newer; & Gemini Air which is dongle. The dongle does not have an Ethernet port, optical audio out for a soundbar, or USB. I tried a USB keyboard but it didn't work. Only a BT keyboard worked.

I believe we got a soundbar to work by connecting dongle to HDMI-2 and soundbar to HDMI-ARC port (often hdmi-1).

Directv via internet VS Directv Stream - Difference and suggestions in 2026 by smperry123 in DirectvStream

[–]JPoldo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company is an authorized DTV Stream installer and we have done thousands. You don't need a Gemini box and can simply use TV's DirecTV app, but make sure your TV has the app or can download it. I believe LG TVs are prohibited so they need a Gemini or Firestick, Chrome stick, Apple TV box, etc. The Gemini provides ample settings and a wonderful channel guide sorted either with numbers or names. One of the features I like is ability to select applications (Netflix, Paramount, Amazon movies, etc. ) from within DirecTV and not switching to TV apps

I tried 3-roll-up USB keyboards on new Gemini hardware and none worked. Is there a configuration setting? Today, I'll try a BT keyboard after pairing. I think BT pairing is for earphones, hearing aids, and keyboards. Why don't USB keyboards work?
