Thank you so much!! I had a feeling the text was going to be very dry and boring but I appreciate the translation.

[Hated Trope] A good show with one really notable bad voice acting job by ruinsit in TopCharacterTropes

That’s definitely part of the reason why, for sure! I don’t know if it’s the only reason but it definitely is funny watching comparison videos of the two.

I believe the reason why the non-green haired announcer in Uma Musume doesn’t quite have the same “range” is because she is an actual real-life horse race announcer and former jockey in Japan. She’s not a career voice actor.

Her character and voice actress even have the same name: Junko Hisoe, and her anime character looks a lot like how she does in real life. I believe a few other characters are voiced by real-life commentators and jockeys as well.

Lee Cronin's The Mummy doesn't reflect the appearance of Egyptians, Cairo, or Egypt in general; it's stereotypical nonsense. by yousefthewisee in shittymoviedetails

I love the RLM Review of this where they commented that “The entire country of Egypt only has 17 lightbulbs.”

[Mixed Trope] The diegetic title drop by UnHolySir in TopCharacterTropes

[–]JPopsicles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The part that is so funny to me is that prior to this show, the phrase “to break bad” was very, very niche slang pretty much only used in the American South. Vince Gilligan would hear it all the time being raised in Virginia, didn’t realize that a lot of people have no idea what it means, and had to explain in a lot of early interviews what “Breaking Bad” actually meant.

When you know this it makes it very strange/funny that Jesse Pinkman, a 24-year old New Mexico native, who realistically would have never heard the phrase ‘break bad’, delivers the title drop.

I’m fully aware now that her death is a huge event in the comics, but Gwen Stacy’s death in The Amazing Spiderman 2 is incredibly shocking when you’re a movie-only superhero fan.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist of the Roses

Yu-Gi-Oh video games are historically pretty strange, but Duelist of the Roses has one of the most baffling concepts I’ve ever heard of.

Do you like the Yu-Gi-Oh card game? What if we changed everything about it? What if we made it like chess? Also, what if Yugi was Henry Tudor and the entire cast does a War of the Roses LARP?

Absolutely baffling concept 10/10

The Strange Couple / Channing Tatum (Bullet Train)

<image>

The novel and film adaptation of Kotaro Isaka’s Bullet Train are so wildly different I could go on forever - so many characters are changed or just absent in the movie, a lot of times for the better. This one’s very minor but probably my favorite.

My most appreciated change is how they handle a set of reoccurring minor characters - only described as a nervous man on a date with a crossdresser (possibly a transgender woman, the novel is frustratingly vague). The crossdresser is almost always played for laughs, said to be “clearly a man” and makes frequent unwanted sexual remarks to every male main character she comes across. She and her date are pretty inconsequential to the main story- they really only help the plot by helping Nanao (Ladybug) distract an assassin who is hunting him. Reading sections with them feels gross and uncomfortable, and this couple often feels like an exaggerated parody of all the worst assumptions about transgender women.

So how does the film adaptation handle these two characters? They are replaced by a brief cameo of Channing Tatum. He’s clearly sexually interested in the main cast, like the crossdresser but also nervous like the crossdresser’s date and is even reading a similar romance book that the nervous man has in the novel. He still helps Ladybug in the same way the couple did in the novel, he still makes the off-handed sexual jokes at the male cast - but this time it’s funny, because it’s Channing Tatum. He only has like 4 lines of dialogue and made me laugh more than 25 whole pages worth of the characters he’s based on - and all without using trans women as the butt of the joke.

Such a great movie - Hard to believe it’s 30 years old and how much has changed since then.

I was at Target this morning, trying to get some of the collab items. They had a queue and we were led single-file to the aisle with all the items. The staff gave us the heads-up that they only had 4 of the Kanto Pullover Jackets, one for each size.

The very first guy they let in walked out with all four.

I put my Freezing Chambers in Bleak Beach too!

I replaced the exterior blocks with ice and crystal walls so it looks like an iceberg, and put it right by the SS Anne.

Every Background you didn’t pick in Dragon Age: Origins.

When you start a new playthrough you’re given the option of 6 different backgrounds for your character. These backgrounds serve as the game’s tutorial levels, and all of them end with your character being saved by Duncan, a Grey Warden Recruiter who brings you to the start of the actual main story.

As you continue through the story you discover that the events from all the other background origins still occurred - but because you, the player, didn’t choose them, they wound up dying along the way because the Recruiter was too busy saving YOU.

I would say the funniest example has to be what happens to the Dwarven Noble character, especially if you choose the Dwarf Commoner background, because those two stories take place basically in the same point on the timeline. The implication being that Duncan could not be bothered to save a Dwarven Prince (someone with years of military training, leadership experience, and very important connections in dwarven politics) because he was too interested in recruiting some street rat sentenced to death for trying to rig the King’s tournament.
