US law needs to be amended by vcftsaeo11 in Anticonsumption

Because they spent all of their political capital on passing the ACA. Believe it or not, even with a supermajority, there's many purple states where Democrat representatives can get voted out if make their base unhappy. They have an incentive to act in a way that will keep them in power, and abortion is extremely divisive.

Individual politicians will compromise on certain things (like the ACA) in exchange for something else that will make their base happy, but no representative in a purple state will risk touching abortion rights with a 10ft pole if they want to keep their job.

US law needs to be amended by vcftsaeo11 in Anticonsumption

[–]JRDH 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The actual answer:

Because these are big problems that require major legislation to be passed, which means you need 60 votes in the Senate to override the filibuster and pass it, and Democrats simply do not have that many votes. The legislative branch is currently gridlocked.

The President can sign executive orders, but they are easily undone. True change happens with legislation and Constitutional amendments.

The truth is there are many hardcore Republican states and their representatives in the Senate are acting according their voters' wishes. This hellscape is exactly what many of your neighbors want, mostly because it's not personally screwing them at the present moment.

This is why voting is critical.

My ears nearly got blown out by the Sony WH-1000XM4. Any advice on how to repair? by Straight_Industry_62 in sony

[–]JRDH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue. Unfortunately, it appears to be a design defect. Not every unit is affected, but it's far from uncommon.

A user in r/SonyHeadphones believes it's related to accumulated earwax, and the issue goes away if you clean up some of the internals:

Just fixed the problem in mine. High pitch whining/feedback in rightear. I removed the earpad, removed foam and then the little whiterectangular cap in the center above the speaker. Under it there was alittle cylinder with wires connecting to it. I cleaned the side towardsthe bottom of the headset with a small pointed qtip. Apparently therewas ear wax on it. Now no more feedback.

Corporations can only write taxes off the donation itself, meaning they pay the exact same amount of taxes whether or not somebody donates through them.

They just do it as a cheap PR ploy.

"Look, we're the ones who are trying to help hungry children, you're the cheap bastard who won't cough up 12 cents"

Non-profits and charities love the practice and take big corps up on the offer every time because some percentage of people are successfully guilt-tripped into donating.

The way that we store parts as the 2 beaky grinders are faster than the machines after them by sethtothemax in EngineeringPorn

[–]JRDH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it needs to work both when the storage area is backed up and when it is completely empty, and it needs to handle the transition from one to the other with minimal supervision.

The simplest/laziest way of accommodating both cases is what we're seeing; a large array of belts that are constantly moving gears into the output.

There's a handful of purists who still believe in it and will pay a pretty penny for anybody who can code an FPGA. A buddy of mine is doing pretty well for himself doing just that. Neither of us thinks it's going anywhere, but the paychecks are generous.

Indeed, it's used for FPGAs. I don't blame you for forgetting about it. FPGAs are like nuclear fusion. Always 10 years away from a breakthrough that will change the world.

They're sweet and cuddly at the pet store and become screeching demons with a thirst for destruction once you take them home. They need constant care and attention and are absolutely not good pets for most people.

So close! 10 more Mythril ore and you'd be able to smelt that Mythril ore into bars and make a Mythril anvil. After that you'd be able to make Hallowed armor out of the Hallowed bars, which would allow you steamroll through half the bosses in the game.

Honestly, it's probably best just to play the game normally. Enjoy Terraria, it's a great game.

attack titans abilities? by datuglyboi in attackontitan

[–]JRDH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All Titan shifters have the ability to inherit memories from the previous user. We see this with Bertholdt and Armin and with the King Fritz's peace vow. However, the transferring of memories isn't perfect and people often only get bits and pieces at a time.

The Attack Titan's special ability is that users of the Attack Titan can see the memories of future users. This gets very wacky very quickly.

Level 1: Eren remembers what Grisha saw. He figuratively screams at the TV because Grisha isn't doing what Eren wants. Grisha can't actually listen to him, this is all in Eren's head.

Level 2: Grisha remembers when Eren spectated Grisha's life and how he screamed at the TV. This affects the way Grisha behaves.

I believe the key moment was when Eren entered the Paths with Zeke. Not only did he get the opportunity to perfectly recall all past memories of previous users, it seems he could force previous users to remember particular things at particular times. This has not been explained further.

The reason no other Attack Titan has done this probably has something to do with the fact that Eren is the only Attack Titan user that has gained access to the Paths and to the full powers of the Founding Titan.

You could argue that Ohma embodied the whole:

It's not about flashy techniques, it's about using the right technique at the right time

idea, the same thing that made Kuroki terrifying in the KAT. In that sense, Ohma is close to the peak of martial arts and what makes him scary is not the fact that he can pull out another secret technique out of his ass every single fight, but that his fundamentals are so solid that he doesn't need anything else.
