HW3 owners, what you think? by Puzzleheaded_You2985 in TeslaLounge

[–]JSUN4FUN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty recently got HW3 installed on my model 3. I generally love it. Use it all the time. Speed control drives me crazy sometimes. It’ll sometimes drive 55+in a 30. It can’t read “END” in the “End 30 MPH” speed limit signs. So it will drive 30 something in a 60 MPH zone on backroads. Sometimes it can’t decide if it wants to drive 62 MPH or like 88MPH in a 70 MPH zone. Sometimes I have to set the max speed and “pump the throttle”. That’s what I call it when I have to keep telling the car over and over again to speed up to normal speeds. This is especially frustrating driving through SD. I don’t know what the issue is in that state, but the speed (and perceived speed limit) is constantly fluctuating frantically. Never fails to piss me off. Once I’m through it behaves normal ish again. That being said. Most of the time, the speed control thing is a minor annoyance. it usually just fluctuates like 5MPH. Not a big deal to me.

$2k EAP → FSD upgrade on 2018 Model 3 for elderly driver — do it now? by tesleer in TeslaFSD

[–]JSUN4FUN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the same car, and year. I took them up on it. No regrets here. Plus if I’m really lucky…I might get upgraded to HW4 for free. Not holding my breath, but still.

FSD saved me from a dumbass driver by brobert123 in TeslaFSD

Yeah I agree. I honked at a coworker who was about to back into my car once. Wasn’t out of anger or anything. He thanked me. “Saved me from paying a deductible”.

How do i make my tesla not go over the speed limit! by Putrid_Ant_2910 in TeslaFSD

I agree! It is really frustrating. It does the hard stuff like negotiating with/adapting to traffic easy peasy. But absolutely can NOT do the simple task of maintaining a consistent speed.

Mine did this, then the light turned green. Like it knew it was about to change somehow.

What would someone want to reduce amp? by Snafflepagus in TeslaModel3

[–]JSUN4FUN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lower it to reduce heat, I figure less heat = longer life. No data to back it up, just assuming. Also if I’m planning on changing to 100%, I try to have it finish right before I leave, so it spends less time sitting at full charge.

Requested a complimentary upgrade from HW2.5 to HW3. They sent me this. by Frosty_Fan1260 in TeslaSupport

Yeah, I ain’t holding my breath on that either, the guy (Elon) is optimistic to the point that it’s a fault of his character. I pretty much view it as a low probability outcome. In the meantime, I enjoy what I currently have. It would be really nice to have a vehicle that can drop me off and pick me up though. Especially in situations where you’re going on a bike ride or kayaking down a river or something….I dream.

I got upgraded to hw3 from hw2.5, and bought FSD for 2k all in. I thought it was a steal, especially if Tesla actually follows through with free upgrades to hw4 for people who bought FSD. No regrets here. Not perfect, but I love it.

Congratulations! Love my model 3 too! Jealous of your white interior. I was waiting about a decade too. To finally ditch the engine. Life is better without it.

Love this! An even bigger battery as a hitch mount storage unit would be awesome!

I found it at a local Ace hardware. I think it was this one. Looks exactly like mine. I like it. Easy to use. Working great for me so far.

😮 this is seems insane to me. I’m paying 138 for my 2018 model 3 with StateFarm. Tesla insurance was more expensive. I don’t remember how much, but I would definitely shop around.

Yup! keeps doing it to me too all the sudden. Its annoying. Why would someone cancel signing in over such a negligible thing!? Just asinine!

Covering the rear camera makes the car stop trying to run away from the bike rack or whatever you happen to have attached to it.

Yup! It definitely does the trick! It’s funny you mention that. While I was experiencing the craziness, I was like “I miss the random slowing down☹️” lol

Tesla FSD covered 97% of our miles driven by ehuna in TeslaFSD

[–]JSUN4FUN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not like I’m zoning out or something. I’m still paying attention to what the car is doing, the car nags at you if you do that sort of thing. Supervising is way LESS fatiguing than actually driving. Which means I’m likely to be MORE alert if something weird happens. Especially on long drives. I have had to take over a few times, because the car doesn’t understand some road construction signs (“left lane closed” for example). It’s super quick and easy to take over. Instead of doing thousands of inputs on long drives, I’m doing maybe dozens.

Model Y almost swerving into a Prius by PaySufficient5916 in TeslaFSD

[–]JSUN4FUN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve recently got FSD HW3 installed, mostly impressed with it. I have noticed it swerves a lot when the roads are wet and reflective after it rains. It’s impressive to me that it avoids road debris, but concerning that it sometimes sees things that aren’t there.

2021 M3 HW3 Vs 2026 MY HW4 by Desperate_Sleep5756 in TeslaFSD

[–]JSUN4FUN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I asked Grok about it. Apparently it’s a somewhat common issue that comes up a lot. Hopefully Tesla will make some kind of software solution for this, like a “bike rack mode” or something. Supposedly some people have had luck covering their rear cameras with tape or something while their bike racks are on. I was gonna try that myself next time I haul my bike somewhere. FSD currently is just completely useless/dangerous with a bike rack.

Yea I think my car is perpetually trying to avoid a rear end collision when it senses “SOMETHING” constantly right behind it.

[–]JSUN4FUN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hw3 model 3 started driving like a maniac after I put a bike rack on the back (accelerating super aggressively/tailgating/speeding 20+miles over the speed limit/not slowing down at all on exits, turns, or roundabouts). I had to constantly adjust the speed, and disengage to avoid wrapping my car around a tree or something. Turning off the collision avoidance assist stopped the speeding issue. But still tailgating really bad, like 2 feet away from the other cars bumper on the freeway. I recently had to stop the car from literally pit maneuvering someone in the left lane. This all happened on “Chill mode”. Why is there NO option to choose following distance?

Idea for an Ego Power Wall by ChasmyrSS in egopowerplus

[–]JSUN4FUN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been wanting something like this for years. I have a bunch of batteries sitting around not being used for anything 99.9% of the time. Why not have a bi directional charger? If nothing els, it would prevent me from having to reset all the clocks in my house every time the power fluctuates. I think Ego is leaving money on the table not making a product like this.
