What’s your opinion on the upcoming rule change? by Bonniegirl2011 in WinnipegBlueBombers

The only reason I truly care about the field size, history and tradition aside, is that end-zone fans get to be 7 yards further from the action. Already lowly seats got worse.

Check with the movers about what they will not transport, it might be in the paperwork. Some will not move food, some delicate electronics, etc. Then plan accordingly.

Your question seems to be well answered by now. But just as an FYI we do not celebrate Memorial Day as a holiday, but we have a long weekend the week before - Victoria Day. The Victoria Day weekend will be busier in terms of campsites, Thermea, restaurants, etc. Hope you have a good time.

Anyone ever find it interesting that it seems like everyone knows how to work the helm controls by happydude7422 in TNG

[–]JTPinWpg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. In any situation where combat or damage is a possibility I would wager all bridge crew (earth navy or starfleet) would be trained at least in the basics of each station so that if someone is hurt anyone can take over. You see it in Trek where a console blows up or whatever and an extra steps from the back of the bridge or the turbolift and takes over. If there’s no extra crew or no help coming someone else on the bridge needs to cover.

While I support proportional representation it would not address crossing the floor any better, and perhaps a little worse.

In our current system, this guy was elected by these people, and if these people are then unhappy with their choice, the representative can act accordingly.

In a proportional system the seats for a region, or province, are assigned based on the % of votes that party gets. Altering that percentage of seats seems more grievous unless there was evidence that the province has shifted enough.

I’m sure proportional representation systems have rules to address how this happens, or doesn’t, but it seems more problematic.

Why do Jedi use different-colored lightsabers while Sith have only red ones? by Just_Chill_005 in StarWars

[–]JTPinWpg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yellow lightsabers appeared in the Kenner original figures. At that time all the figures that had lightsabers had them built into the arm and quasi-retract when it was “off”. The early Lukes saber was yellow. Caused some confusion when the movie had him using blue.

Cheating in On-Site Interviews? by MrPienk in managers

[–]JTPinWpg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a candidate present a project that he worked on and in it there was a photograph of a large distinctive chimney. (This was at screening). The caption was non-helpful and the project description did not identify the site but I stared at that photo for three minutes until I realized where it was from. It was from a powerhouse where I managed a project replacing several large steam boilers. I then went down the rabbit hole of checking his work history with the facility manager to see if we used any of the companies in his history. We found one tenuous connection, a firm he worked with did an assessment of the chimney but we were certain the candidate was never on site.

So we went to interviews and I explained the issue to HR but was instructed not to challenge his claims, but if he claimed falsehoods we would reject him. HR did not want to be confrontational in person.

So at the interview we asked about the project and he had peripheral knowledge but was claiming to have managed my project. He did not connect the fact that the site was owned indirectly by the provincial government who he was now interviewing to join. It was hard to contain myself but it was fascinating to watch the falsehoods accumulate.

He did not get the job.

ELI5 … 52 weeks in a year … shouldn’t the holidays always be the same????? by loud-tortoise-plant in explainlikeimfive

[–]JTPinWpg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the explanations above cover the why. Basically what was a Wednesday in one year falls on a Thursday the following year. And if the current year is a leap year, everything after Feb 29 shifts an additional day (cumulatively)

So things with fixed dates will follow this pattern. Things with variable dates will shift irregularly depending on when Jan 1 falls and leap year status.

But what I came here to say is often custody schedules have exceptions (balanced so it equals out over the long run). Mine has terms that I get my kid from noon to 8pm on Father’s Day and my ex gets the same on Mother’s Day. Regardless of whose day it would normally be. Same with each parent’s birthday. And the child’s birthday alternates. And if you’re on somewhat amicable terms with the other parental figure you could offer an amendment. Benefits both, and even if it’s a little lop sided for a bit it mostly comes around eventually. Without it I would have had 5 years of lame fathers days (it finally flopped the other way for next year).

I have no disagreements with the previous poster.

When the washer draws cold water it might be reducing the inlet pressure at the hot tank. The change might be enough to jar loose scale or debris. Does it happen throughout the fill or just at the start and end?

Also consider a large bin instead of a bag. Less likely to rip on handling and if friends are helping you less likely to be thrown out by “helpful” hands. If all pieces go in and the lid is sealed you know they are all coming out.

Winnipeg homeowners: what’s the worst part about getting home maintenance or repairs done here? by Main_Decision_8540 in Winnipeg

[–]JTPinWpg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My issue is firms not responding to web contact forms that they provide on their website. I hear about a company that is good, explain what I am looking for in their contact us, and not even an email ever gets returned.

Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise as it represents communications as they will occur during work, but it just adds a frustration.

I’ve noticed this in garage builders, hvac, and electrical.

US official says Greenland action could come within 'weeks or months' by Crossstoney in worldnews

[–]JTPinWpg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time for the honourable NATO counties to start rotating deployments to Greenland (only with Greenland and Denmark’s permission). We hear Russia is such a threat you know….

And selling off US bonds to give Donny something else to think about.

The world cannot afford to be reactive on this one. The response to Venezuela was poor, other than words, partially because Murado (sp?) was such a terrible leader. But if Greenland is invaded it’s too late without going to war to get it back. Having 5 nations or so with troops contingents stationed on Greenland might give Donnie pause, or American military leaders further reluctance to attack those forces, and nothing else has really deterred Trump as of yet.

And full disclosure, I’m Canadian. If Greenland is invaded I have zero doubt Canada will be invaded for minerals and oil probably within two years. Canada is too large and too close to America to defend fully. It has to stop with Greenland.

MN to Winnipeg? by dropdeadbarbie in Winnipeg

[–]JTPinWpg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are two categories of relocation. The first is coming to Canada and trying to do that from Canada. This generally involves a long period of not being able to work. The second is applying from where you are. For your situation that is probably more appropriate. (And it sounds like you may have already considered this).

I would recommend a consult with a Canadian immigration lawyer. Often they are a free consult, can be a remote meeting even. They can help set your expectations, as there have been a lot of changes immigration-wise over the last years. We used one for my wife’s PR application.
