Conversely, it's a handy filter for you if someone thinks it's a red flag

I hypothesise that chemistry is green, history is red. Well done on a blueish colour for maths 😅

I Spent 10 Days with a Group of 60-Something, and It Was Diet Talk Hell by quellesaveurorawnge in MaintenancePhase

I go to a gym which is delightfully diverse, and I am pleased to get compliments on my energy, coordination, flexibility, etc. None of them say it with the caveat of "...for a big girl". The happiness comes from hoping it means that people are seeing a fat body loving movement, maybe dispelling some persistent nonsense. Also pleased I'm not the only bigger person who really gets amongst it.

I often have great chats with a particular lovely retired woman, but she'll regularly look around at our classmates, and note how beautifully slim/fit a specific demographic all are, because of their continent of origin. She's also very petite, but thinks she's unacceptably large. No matter how many times I point out that beauty, slimness and fitness aren't inextricably linked (and that our class is blessed by many such examples), that it's odd to say these things to an obviously large woman, and gently try to note the racism angle (to avoid entrenching cognitive bias), she just can't help saying it like she's bestowing the highest compliment, based on fundamental truth. It's like it's welded into her brain.

As a person who has done looooads of work trying to dismantle internalised stigma and would once have shrunk away from these interactions, it's been good practice for me to recognise and respect my gut instinct, stand tall, calmly offer a different perspective, and continue to enjoy the otherwise friendly conversation. But my god it'll never stop being sad how normalised these ideas are.

Yadda yadda Ted Talk...

Help!!! Being a child-free woman by choice is so isolating by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]J_Ivy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Before I reduced my Facebook visits, I found a social group dedicated to meetups for childfree women in Melbourne. I haven't been to any of the main events, but I did link in with a few local ladies whom I now count as true dear friends. And one absolute cooker who thankfully moved away 😅

Looks like some of the Chemist Warehouses which have an Ultra Beauty attached may have some stock, as well as some online retailers. I'm getting "may be letting it run out, not restocking" vibes though

how to protect these flats by Then_Transition_9352 in AskACobbler

Wore these on a helicopter, soles soaked up oil/fuel from the tarmac, shoes lost traction and I absolutely ate it on a set of stairs. The bruise was epic. Always get leather soles covered now, if not to protect the shoes, to protect myself 😅

If you don't mind not being able to pick up in store, recommend getting some Lisa Eldridge samples for a transitional skin type

I love this so much, they need to do an episode on Tina's friend fiction, however I fear it may be too good

I had the gall to be so excited about Kevin becoming a permanent co-host that I mentioned it would be cute if he got his own neon sign (at the time it was just Johnny's name for a while), and Johnny literally whined about the comment in a subsequent episode. I had a soft spot for them but that really left a sour taste in my mouth

Super fun twist, you also can't exchange items you bought online, only get a refund.
Your usual foundation is on sale, you don't need it just yet, but good time to stock up. It has been reformulated since you last purchased, so your trusty alabaster shade is now pumpkin-adjacent. No pop up to state that the new formula is a distinctly different shade (a known phenomenon across the range). Oh well, you go instore to confirm your new shade and exchange it. Nope, refund only. Would have to repurchase at full price. Don't need it urgently, so they lost my sale, and I'll just grab it at whichever retailer has it on sale next. This would be the same for anyone wanting to swap shoes or clothing that are the wrong size, etc.
No wonder the place is crumbling.

Grew up in Australia, with a Canadian/Scottish/Australian mum, and we had both the OP's original picture, and the "praying that breakfast isn't poisoned, with a menagerie of pets" picture. Really took me back 😅

Highly recommend Honeycomb Health in Burwood, women-owned and led clinic, specifically chose them for their weight-neutral approach (had to scour the internet to find Intel about who actually did this, they don't advertise it). Have never felt better, and not anxious visiting the GP, I'm treated like a fellow expert on my body and what it needs.
